Hi there everyone,
I'm due my first baby on March 8th :smiliedance: and am feeling a little overwhelmed! We have decided not to tell anyone till 12 weeks so I cant ask family for advice yet. Mind you, seeing as my family is in Ireland and DH's only moved to Maryborough when he was 13 it seems unlikely they will have any local birthing info worth having!
I'm looking for some info about giving birth in Hervey Bay hospital. I'm only six weeks gone so far but am panicking about getting stuff organised. Living in Perth at the moment but am moving to Maryborough at xmas to be closer to family and friends so will be having bub over there. Has anyone given birth in Maryborough or Hervey Bay? Is there a birth centre at all? How likely are the docs there to intervene? I'd like as natural a birth as possible :fingerscrossed: but with the back up of drugs and medical assistance if needed - does this sound at all likely?
I'd really appreciate any help anyone could give me.
Thanks
Hi there..
If your staying in Maryborough at XMAS time they will make you deliver at Hervey Bay hospital which is about 30 minute drive from Maryborough, When you are finished delivering at Hervey Bay hospital they will then take you back to maryborough for Post Natal Care.
There is no Birthing Centre at Maryborough Hospital.
I am delivering at Hervey Bay hospital around XMAS time 2.:)
Goodluck:fingerscrossed:

Thanks for that Sarak7 - does that mean that all my antenatal care will be in Maryborough too? I should be there by the time I'm 29/30 weeks gone. What is Hervey Bay hosital like? I's only about 9 yrs old, right? Does that mean it has a fairly modern and well-equipped obstetrics dept? How soon after giving birth do you think they will send me back to Maryborough (presuming everything goes smoothly)?
Sorry to annoy you with so many questions - I spent all my time trying to get pg and none thinking about the actual birth part lol
Hi Mammy2be
Yes, all of your Antenatal care should take place in Maryborough.
Hervey Bay Hospital is a new hospital… it is about 9 years old maybe a little less.
As for the Obstetrics Dept… I’m not entirely sure?
I’ve heard nothing bad about it and trust me if it was bad everyone would know.
After Giving birth they will most likely take you back to Maryborough Hospital the same day you deliver… and you’ll probably stay there for maybe a night or two (All depends on you and the Midwives)
Everything will be fine, Goodluck.:)

Hello!
I'm due to give birth at Hervey Bay Hospital on the 1st of October (very exciting!) and did a fair bit of research as I moved up from Brisbane not long ago. Because the hospital is so new everything is really modern and their Maternity Ward has a really good reputataion, especially their Midwives.
My Dad is a local GP and I questioned him extensively about Hervey Bays maternity ward and he had nothign bad to say about it at all.
Good Luck with everything!

Thanks so much for that JadeLouise! Between yourself and Sarak7 youve really put my mind at rest.
:hugs: Best of luck and happy birthing to both of you:hugs:
Do you know if I should book in to the hospital while I'm still in Perth or should I wait till I get there? I will be about 30-32 weeks by then.

Sorry if I put you off by saying this but my cousin had hassles with the doctors at both these hospitals and ended up going to Bundaberg to deliver her little man in Feb (her GP had to refer her to the Bundy hospital because the doctors at Maryborough & HB hospitals kept postponing her appointments when she was 40 - 42 weeks).

Well that's no good:no:
Thanks though - you cant have tooo much information.
We will be telling family and friends in 4 weeks or so, so I should be able to get some more info on the local hospitals then. I'm sure at least one of them knows someone who gave birth there.
