Help

For just over a week now Nick has been waking up twice a night again. He was down to one wake up and I had to breastfeed him back to sleep as he refused to go back to sleep otherwise (unless he cries for 1 1/2 hours and I can't handle that)

Now he's waking up at around 9.30 pm and crying. I can't settle him with either a feed or a cuddle so I have to leave him. He cries for about an hour then passes out only to wake again around 1am and this time I try to feed him again and he usually goes back to sleep.

Day sleeps are also going haywire. His morning sleep is stretching later and later and sometimes he refuses to sleep in the afternoon.

He's 8 1/2 mths old. Can anyone shed light on what is going on. I thought he was teething but I can't see anything happening in his mouth.

Any ideas how I can stop him from wanting to breastfeed at night. I tried water but he was onto this and didn't want a bar of it.

Help I just want to sleep for more than a couple of hours a night!

Maybe it is teeth?? Does he have any? Kayden was up 3 - 4 times a night when number 7 and 8 were coming through and during the day he would only sleep for half an hour at a time. Once no. 8 raised it's ugly head things went back to normal although he still wakes once a night which i think is more of a habit. I haven't fed him during the night since he syarted solids at 6 months.

Like Kaydensmum said, it could well be teeth even if you can't see anything. The worst pain DD had was always before I could feel or see anything in her gums, and inevitably one would appear a day or two after she'd settled down.

Another possibility is that he's getting ready to drop down to one sleep a day, though I'd have thought he was a bit young for that still. It seems to happen more around the 1 year mark.

DD sometimes would wake in the late evening. I'd sometimes bring her out to the lounge with us if she seemed particularly awake and I wasn't up to fighting her over sleeping. After a half hour or so of quiet play or reading, she'd often be ready to go back to bed at the same time we were going. This goes against all usual advice of keeping them in their room and not back out to the lights and action, but I figured as long as it wasn't a regular occurrence she wouldn't start to expect it.

No advice, just wanted to say I know how you are feeling! :( Bub has always been a great sleeper overnight, and would normally have about 3 half hour sleeps a day.

The last couple of weeks have really blown my confidence - she's all over the place! I spent 2 hours Saturday trying to get her to sleep in the late morning - usually not a problem. Last night she went to sleep at 12mn after hours of trying to get her to sleep - and then she's awake at 12.40!! Usually she's down by 10pm and will sleep through to 4am-6am, but lately she's been getting up at 2am.

This is so not like her - not sure if it's teeth, is she ready for solids, is she just going through a stage, is it too cold at night? I'm not sure if I should go with the flow or start teaching her to self soothe - we'll see how we go.

You're not alone! :D

Thanks for your replies. I can't see any teeth coming (he has two already) but I think that is probably it as today and yesterday there has been a lot of biting going on - I just wish they would hurry up. Why can't they be born with teeth already!!!

Tonight I'm going to try giving him water again and see if it works. For the first time my nipples are cracked - they don't get much use so I think they've softened and that one night feed seems to wreak havoc with them so I'm motivated to stick with the water until he gets the message.

Ahh they keep us guessing don't they - challenging little mites
