It was my 24th birthday and we were about to go to dinner,I decided to go to the bathroom before we left and to my surprise my waters broke i was only 32 weeks pregnant.
We headed off to the hospital to be given 48 hrs of steroid injections and total bedrest to avoid progression of labour.
exactly 48hrs later the contractions started at 12:30am by 11:30am the doctor decided to try the synto drip to move things along as it seemed i was developing uterine infection due to prom.

We were taken to the birthin unit the drip , monitors and fluids were all started and by 1pm still nothing not even a cm.
We kept going and i refused all pain relief hoping my labour would progress but by 6pm no avail still nothing.
At 8pm they examined me again and still no progression, the decision was made an emergency ceasarean was needed although i was still eager to keep goin and petrified of what to expect.

At 9pm my beautifull daughter Aliyah was born weighing a good 2.125 kg, and being 46 cm long with a hc of 31 cm,She was quickly rushed to nicu in respitaory distress and needing assistance.
there was no time for a cuddle just a quick look and a kiss on her forhead.

2 long weeks later after many ups and downs ,she came home on a tube feed and we havent looked back scince.

Hi Kate
Congratulations! It sounds like you are settling in with Aliyah (gorgeous name btw!) and that she is doing well. How are you doing? What a shock that must of been for you! I know exactly how you must have felt. Does it feel weird to be home? Are you getting any rest?

I think I felt strange for a few days because the routine of going to the hospital every day had became ingrained somehow. To be able to stay home and enjoy both my sons was amazing.

You'll find a few premie mums on bubhub and another good resource is Austprem - they are at www.austprem.org.au (http://www.austprem.org.au). They have some great articles and good info and resources about prem bubs.

Good luck and feel free to contact me via personal message (just click my user name at the top and the options should come up)

cheers
Georgia

Thankyou Gidgeroo...
Yeah it was hard at first especially when i was still in hospital i was in a room with 4 other ladies whom had thier babies and all night i would hear them cry and it made me feel sad especially cause i had too wake every 3 hrs to express.
But i think the hardest thing is bonding with your baby when they are in nicu or scn its like theyre not your baby and i remember the first time i touched my angel and the nurse stated "thats not how you touch a premature baby" Whos to know? Even picking up your own little baby you have to ask permission let alone feeding but , INow that we are home we have bonded imensley and i couldnt feel closer too my Aliyah.
I hope to get to chat to you more!
