I just need to get this out of my head or I wont be able to sleep tonight. So many what if's.. good and bad one.

Well My little girl spent 3 hours in hospital today:crying:. I am counting my stars tonight as I still have my little girl.

We were at a friends house dropping DS off for a play date (Yay mummy & chels time, house work to do, or so I thought). DD was a bit hungry so frined gave her a kids muffin roll thing (as she is 12mths soon, didnt see a problem with it.. WRONG). She was loving it for the first three bites then threw it away (dd loves her food, never wastes it, mark one) with in mins was pulling at her ears and scratching in them (DS does this when tired, she was extremely tired so put it down to that, mark two)I then took her home for a sleep. SHe was hungry, tried to feed her her fav food , only ate half a jar though could hardly keep her eyes open, so put it down to that (mark three). She hardly slept grizzling on and off, finally after half hour got her up, face was red, she had been crying so again thought that was the problem (mark four). By this stage getting slightly annoyed, so tired could hardly keep her eyes open yet wont stop crying bit red and warm gave some nurofen. Didnt help so I rang mum to get advice couldnt find her though. Went to ring my friend who had ds to see if she had any ideas (I should have clicked here as she is such aa happy baby, hence why I didnt know what to do) suddly she scratched her back. I lifter her top and her side was covered in blister whelts and bright red. Rushed her to hopsital. This where things went from bad to worse to good again. When I got her there I told them I thought she had had an alergic reaction to something (maybe the muffin bar) they rushed her in. Weighed her asked questions took her to the nurses station in emergancy told them what we suspected and showed her legs, which we had now discovered were also blistered and bright red. The next thing I kneew we were being rushed into resuss. The scariest 15mins of my life. They asked my questions, prepared her for adrenaline if needed, took obs and gave her steriods. At this point obs were great all thing concidered. So after working out her breathing was not affected yet and she was responding to steriods theymoved her back out to emergency, phew. We sat theere til rash had almost gone then came home. So in the end it was decided it was something in the muffin bar that set of an allergice reaction. She now has to stay away from egg, chocolate and nuts until she sees an allegist.

I keep asking myself what if I didnt lift her shirt. I would never have known and we could have lost her. Why didnt I realise when she was unsetteled or pulling her ears. I am her mum I am meant to know these things. I felt so helpless watching all this happen, cant help but feel like I have an angel on my shoulders (maybe my brother, rip)

Anyway if you got through it Thankyou :hugs:. Oh and she is sleeping peacfully in bed and will be watching over her very closly tonight.

:hugs: Your daughter is so lucky to have a mum like you who knew something was wrong and you kept trying all sorts of things to help her. You kept a close eye on her which is what allowed you to see her scratching her back which then made you lift her shirt to check. It's because you're a good mum that she's safe now.

I've had days where I've mistaken DD's pain for tired signs as it involves rubbing eyes and pulling ears. It's so easy to do.

I couldn't read and not reply...

My daughter is anaphylactic to peanuts and walnuts with smaller reaction to other nuts also.

We were at my mums house xmas eve when my daughter had her first reaction. My daughter never got welts/hives she just got a bit itchy, runny nose, cough etc... and even though those symptoms were VERY sudden onset I still thought it was "just a cold" or something. It wasn't until her face was swelling (eyes nearly swollen shut!), she threw up and started losing conciousness I worked it out!! We also rushed to the hospital but thankfully her reaction had started to ease due to the zyrtec I had given her. We now carry epi pens with us wherever we go.

Basically what i'm saying is that we are ONLY mums not superheros as we'd like to be LOL. Your daughter was showing signs of being tired and you did what was right for those symptoms. When you discovered the hives you also did the right thing. Try not to be too hard on yourself and don't think of that 'what ifs?'.

Good luck with the testing for her allergies, I hope she comes though it ok but remember that often any subsequent reactions can be worse than the first so be really careful what she's given until you've had the tests done. Perhaps get some zyrtec or phenergan (check with doctor or pharmacist reguarding her weight etc... if she can have these) and have it on stand by incase she develops symptoms like that again.
