:o My 9 month old wakes up every night between 1 - 2pm. I know i probably do the 'wrong thing' in that i get up straight away, put his dummy in, place him back under the covers & go back to bed - he goes back to sleep straight away. Before he had an ear infection a few weeks back we were letting him cry himself back to sleep but i found i was getting up to make sure he was covered cos we live in Melbourne & it can get pretty cold during the night. I guess ime just wondering what others think?? I feel i have to get up anyway so why not put the dummy back in but ime also aware he's probably going to become reliant on it. My hubby seems to think maybe we should wait till it's warmer before we go back to the crying thing but i don't know :o . I have read that 'sleeping through' is really considered to be when they sleep 5 - 6 hours straight which he certainly is doing. Anyway, just wondered what others thought.

Nathan is 9mths and I too have to get up at least once a night to put his dummy back in. during the day I will let him have a bit of a cry but at night I'm just desperate to get back to sleep and cave in. I did the same with my daughter and while she did become reliant as she got older she put the dummy back in herself.(she was 2 1/2 when we finaly got rid of it)
I think either way is fine, if you feel strong enough let him cry other wise stick the dummy in.
Good luck

Thanks 4 that, it makes me feel so much better. I do let him cry during the day but its the whole sleep thing that i need. I find it really interesting that i always wake up just before he does & on the odd occasion that he does sleep through i usually wake up waiting for him to wake up - go figure!!!!
