Hi gals/guys, Ok, so I need to know what you do and how you do it when you use cloth wipes.
Im in the process of swapping from sposies to MCN's (just ordered some BBH & also have some not too great but OK All - in - ones from ebay).
DS did a #2 in his MCN and I was like "oh, wait, if i use disposable wipes where am I gunna put them all covered in poo, cant put them in the pooey cloth nappy, have to put them in a plastic bag! Aaaarghhh no, bad for the environment!"
I bought some micro polar fleece from Spotlight to make up liners for the nappies, and heard I could use it as wipes too? I bought 1 metre for $3 (was on sale) so I'll have PLENTY for liners ..
What do you use? Do you spray water on their bum or on the cloth? What do you put in the water?
Any tips about cloth wipes MUCHLY appreciated:flowerz:
OH, and would using a microfleece liner adversly affect the absorbency of my BBH Magicalls.. as in I know that you shouldnt use microfleece liners when nappy is lined with fleece already.. but the magicalls are Suede cloth?

I love cloth wipes! I made my own with one side minky, one side flanalette, all from spotlight.
I have a spray solution of sorbelene and water in a spray bottle and I spray the wipe then wipe DDs bottom. If its pooey I will rinse before chucking it in the nappy bucket, otherwise it goes straight into the bucket.
I line everything with microfleece liners, I have never had a problem with them on nappys already made with microfleece =\

I use cloth nappies, have done since day one...and bought HEAPS of organic cotton/ bamboo washers to wipe DD's bum with, BUT when she did her first poo, I was like, "stuff this" (meconium= SO sticky) and started using Wotnot baby wipes which made life SO much easier. I know they're expensive but I figure I save money in other ares through not buying heaps of huggies, formula and I pretty much didn't buy and baby gear to begin with...so it's justified. And they're totally perfume free and don't have any nasty crap in them like other wipes do.
Now that DD's bigger, I still have Wotnots for no. 2's, but use the cloths soaked in warm water then wrung out to wipe wee off or to do a final wipe down of her bum after a poo.
In regards to their disposal- I worried about this too, and at first was just putting them in with the rest of the garbage. But before too long I realised they are compostable, so they now get popped in the compost along with kitchen scraps etc and the moltex disposable nappies I use at night and on outings :)

I hesitated transitioning to cloth wipes for soo long, but I finally did a few months ago and it's great! I keep the dry wipes in a container on the window sill above the kitchen sink and then I wet them in the tap whenever I need to change a nappy or in my case two nappies hehe.
We use flushable liners so if it's a poo I just drop that into the toilet. If it's a really messy poo, I use tissues to get most of it off and then the cloth wipe to really clean the skin. And if we are out and have a particularly messy one, I have a packet of Wiggles flushable wipes to use like I use the tissues, that way I can still dump the lot in the toilet;)
And as for what kind of wipes, I have a few different ones, but I find the cheap washers from Big W to be the best:thumbsup:
eta: oh, forgot to say, for going out, I wet as many wipes as I take nappies and put them in a little wet bag in the nappy bag... easy!
I want to know this too. A gorgeous friend made me some cloth wipes (one side minky the other side flannel) and i have used them a couple of times, but i dont know where to put the dirty ones while i am still wiping??? i cant put them under the table because all his clean nappies are there. So what do you do with the dirty ones while putting a new nappy on??

ohh she must be a nice girl wish i knew her ;)
back to the question :i have made my wipes out of minky one side and flanalette the other and overlocked edges :)
i store them beside the nappies in baskets and wet under the tap as i need them :)
i rinse poo off then put in the nappy bucket with nappies till wash time
IJ- i sit the dirty wipe on top of the old nappy while i put the clean one on !(coz it all needs rinsing anyway)
Ok in this household we just use face washers from Best and Less - cheap and great wipers. We have a stack load that are just for bums - kept under the sink in the bathroom. I just grab one and wet and off I go.
If we are going out where there wont be a tap to use to wet my facewashers then I wet them before we leave home and chuck them in a zip lock bag inside my wet bag.
About the "where do I put the dirty cloth" - what about getting a cheap plastic jug with half handle (if that makes sense) and hang it over the edge of the change table and just pop the dirty cloth in there. Or just a nappy bucket with lid at the end of the change table.
I bought cloth wipes which are bamboo velour & terry - very nice and soft and still cheaper than disposable ones. Tho you can do it cheaper.
I wet one under the tap before use -2 if i know its a poo. I have just recently started having toilet paper or paper towel on hand to grap the majority of the solid stuff, then use the wipes to clean up. I also have a pkt of disposable ones on hand for bad messes and DH.
I have a sml plastic bag lined bin on the floor next to the table because I still use disposables sometimes. The dirties go into that - or on top of it for later flushing, it depends how I feel and how messy it is. Its usually pretty solid so it falls off into the paper and I wrap it & toss it down the dunny.
The cloth wipes therefore don't get really dirty and go straight into the nappy bucket.

Thanks everyone, getting some good ideas... any other ideas/tips?
P.s what do you do when youre out and DS/DD does poo? Do you flush it down the closest toilet or just wrap the poop up in the nappy and take it home then clean it all up there?:dizzy:
My Ds's do the lovely runny poo so its not too easy to just flush down the loo. If it is a good solid one then yup when out I just flush it - but if its their normal yuck ones then I just wrap and deal with it later. I have a wet bag but I also keep a zip lock plastic sandwich bag in my wetbag just in case there is a yucko poo that needs extra wrapping. I really should buy a roll of flushable nappy liners just to use when we are out.
:iagree:
Ususally I just wrap & deal with it at home, unless its easy.

as I said we use flushable liners which I just love so much! DS1 does runny poos all the time and they usually catch it all. When we're out, I'll dump it in the toilet if we are close to one, if not I wrap it in the nappy and dump it at home.
and for dirty wipes while changing a nappy, I kinda fold over the liner and put the wipe in the nappy;)

We use a mix of polar fleece, bamboo velour and minky one side flanelette the other wipes. Or will be for the minky/flannel ones.
I much, much rather the bamboo velour ones (I have a set from nurture nappies and one from cushie tushie... the CT one is my fave!!!).
We just use plain water, so it can be nice and warm :)
Flushable liners are perfect for when you're out (actually, at any time :D) and I usually empty at home. Thank God for a good wetbag
