Hi there
My DD is just 6 months old and is waking atleast 3 times a night. I'm doing everything everyone says to do, she goes to bed awake and puts her self to sleep for all her sleeps, her nights don't differ if she has less/more sleep during the day, if I leave her for 15 minutes she gets hysterical and it then takes me longer to get her back to sleep. The only way of getting her back to sleep at night is my feeding her. the lack of sleep is really starting to effect me, I've read every book and they all say if she can put her self to sleep, she should be doing it during the nigt aswell. Does anyone have any advice or experience with something similar? I've even tried giving her a bottle before bed to break the attachement instead of b/f as normal. Any advice or words would be appreciated, I feel like there is nothing else!

Have you tried using a bottle when she wakes during the night? That used to work a treat if my son woke during the night, but he was never a bad sleeper. He also had a dummy til 12 months which I also think helped him sleep.

6 months is about when they start needing a bit more sustenance, so it could be hunger? DS will wake in the night for a feed if he hasn't eaten as much solids during the day.

You dont say whether you have started solids as yet. If so I would up the amount of solids during the day and try only offering water in a bottle overnight. I did this and my daughter soon realised it wasnt worth waking up for. By breastfeeding you are offering a comfort as well as nutrition and my bet would be it is the comfort she is after over night as long as you take care of the nutrition during the daq. Good luck!

Before reading the other replies I would have suggested upping the solids more as well. Maybe if you're already doing 3 solid feeds, try adding in a morning and afternoon snack.

You poor thing!! I hope you find the answer soon - good luck :)

My boy was the same and was eating lots of food. I started feeding at 11pm then comforting him but no boobs after that until 6. Only took a couple of nights before he didn't bother waking. Now at 8 months he generally sleeps 7-5/530 without the 11 feed. Not every might but most

What a great thread for me! My DD who is 10 months is still getting poor Mummy up 4-5 times EVERY night without fail.

So should I just offer her water when she wakes during the night??
