View Full Version : Help Please
i never actually thought about this until reading a thread just earlier.
I have had 3 M/C, some one said about upping the Folate in another thread.
My question:
Is it better to take just the Folate Tablets or a multi vitamin with it in it.???
As the amounts are different.

i think it would depend on how much folate is already in your diet. but i am not that knowledgeable on vitamins ( i only know about iron tablets lol)
hmm yeah Iron tablets i used to be on for quite a while until i was told to eat lots and lots of Broccoli so im fine now.
Folate tablets im not sure about...... what are some good foods to help with that one?
you need to take 5mg of folate this is the brand ive used all my pgs megafol 5 but if youve had that many m/cs it is classed as reocurent and u should go under ob good luck with every thing pm if you need more info

5mg of folate is a MASSIVE amount! The recommeded daily intake of folate for woman who are TTC or pregnant is actually 400 - 500mcg - micrograms.
If you're going to take a multivitamin in pregnancy, you really need to take one SPECIFICALLY designed for pregnancy - as most other multivitamins contain Vitamin A which has been shown to cause birth defects in the amounts in normal multis.
There are some really good pregnancy multivitamins on the market that actually have 400 or 500mcg of folate included so you don't have to take folate seperately - here are some links to some:
Fabfol Plus (http://www.chemistaustralia.com.au/products/fabfol-plus-tablets-28.html) - this is the one I took, and it contains 500mcg of folate, plus a few other goodies. It's a once a day formula.
Elevit (http://www.chemistaustralia.com.au/products/elevit-tablets-100.html) - this contains 800mcg of folate, plus a few other goodies. It's a once a day formula.
Blackmore's pregnancy and breastfeeding formula (http://www.chemistaustralia.com.au/products/blackmores-pregnancy-breastfeeding-140.html) - this contains 200mcg of folate, plus a few other goodies. You take 2 a day (and just a warning - they're horse tablets - HUGE!)
Have a shop around, talk to a pharmacist, midwife, GP or OB, and find out what they recommend too.

I take that one now, but when i read the folate amount on it, its smaller then the straight folate tablets.
Must re-read it i take 2 a day not 2 times a day!!

Hi Bel,
I was taking the blackmores one but am just taking the straight folate now.
My Ob hasn't mentioned that I need anything more so thats the go!
I've had 3 m/c's too:-(
I think as long as you take one or the other and you're eating fairly healthy and cutting out the caffeine you'll be okay:-)
And of course withour saying (u'd think, lol) no drugs, and really decrease the alcohol...
Really just common sense things:thumbsup:
