Hey guys. I'm 9.5 weeks (first time!) pregnant. I have been feeling nauseas constantly for the past 3 weeks. Its 24/7. :dizzy:

I haven't actually thrown up and I know I should be thankful that I'm not vomiting like many of you, but I dont know whats worse! It's like being motion sickness ALL the time (I wish i could throw up and make it better!)

I have not told any of my friends or family of the pregnancy yet, so asking them for tips is not possible. Therefore any tips for making myself feel better?

I've been eating small meals throughout the day because i read that the nausea can be caused by hunger.. but its not really working. I also find myself really thirsty at night, obviously i need more water but its so hard to drink that much down, especially when its not hot weather!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated :) :bee:

Hi artnouveau ,

Two words... GREEN TICTACs!!!

A midwife suggested them when I was vomiting after DD1s c-section. I had packets of them EVERYWHERE for DD2 and DSs pregnancies.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope the MS eases soon :hugs:.

Not much advise really, but with my pregnancies I've found really cold thing helped me feel better, things like slurpees, water ice blocks, ice cubes to suck on and really cold water. I also lived off apple puree

For the nausea, I found that sea-sickness bands and ginger tablets / ginger tea helped, both available from the chemist.

Not letting yourself get hungry was very helpful in my experience (MS with vomiting every 2nd day from 5 wks to 15 wks)... but other than that, sorry I got no more advise, just gotta ride it out!:barf:(sorry, couldnt help but use that emoticon LOL):flowerz:

Blackmores Morning Sickness tablets (ginger and vitamin b6). You take 3 per day and they last 8 hours each. If I start feeling a bit yuk I look at the clock and see I'm either due one or just missed one. Only found them at 16 weeks last time

i can completely understand where you are coming from. i was working until 14 weeks when m/s got the better of me. I used to love lying on the bathroom floor  because the nausiousness would come, i would feel sick , get really hot, feel like i was going to throw up and then not, it was a vicious cycle.

unfortunately i just had to ride it out.
it was really annoying.

anyway, good luck.

I am exactly like you artnouveau - I'm almost 12 weeks and had constant nausea from about weeks 6-9 but never vomited (thankfully). It lasted from the time I woke up up until about 4pm. NOW I get it from 4pm until I go to bed :( But at least I get a break for the majority of the day especially when I have to work!

Anyway when I do feel queezy what I find helps:

Maxalon (anti-nausea tablet)
Fruit (especially pineapple)
Carbonated drinks (can't stand the taste of ginger) - this helped me the most I think, particularly Sprite Zero, almost instantaneous...!

I used the sea sickness bands. I also took vitamin B, and drank sports drinks just before bed and first thing for the electrolyte balance.

i had 24 hour nausea for the first 5 months of my first pregnancy. I just found out that i am pregnant again and what do ya know? The same thing is happening. I have had 2 pregnancies between this one and dd, which both resulted in m/c, but with them i had no morning sickness at all.

At the moment all that makes me feel better is vitawheats with avocado spread on them. I think i might have to try some of the suggestions in here- i dont wanna be bed ridden for the next 5 months

Ginger or peppermint tea worked for me, and vegemite sandwiches. The saltiness of the vegemite seemed to do it.

Fresh air and relaxation - avoiding stressful situations where possible - also helps.

I was constantly sick throughout my pregnancy up until 7 months then again in the later stages. Queazy all day and vomiting every night. My only suggestion is stay away from really strongly flavoured foods. The healthier I ate the better I felt.
Plain rice crackers or plain kettle chips really helped me. I have been told that if you scratch a lemon skin and sniff it it really helps. Otherwise anything with ginger in it.
Good luck ladies I hope your MS disappears or at least becomes less frequent/ intense soon.

Err Morning sickness- turns me off ever having any more babies- the memories are still raw:no:.As a few PP have said I found the sea sick bands very helpful also ginger nuts and ginger beer helps some.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! Hope the MS is short lived and you can start enjoying being UTD soon:)

I find that the Blackmores Morning sickness tablets work the best and also constantly eating plain foods with not too much flavor help to keep the tummy full.

I thought I was at the end of my nausea with having 5 days of bliss this last weekend, BUT got back from holidays on Monday and have had it 24/7 since then. Today is the first day I am feeling a bit more human again.

hey ladies, i have suffered severe nausea since the day i found out i was expecting and for the life of could not find anything to help ease it... until now!!!

just for laughs, i bought BUDERUM GINGER REFRESHER (available in the soft drink isle at woolworths). One bottle makes about 4 litres so im finding it great value. and for now at least it seems to be working. all you need to do is mix 1 part ginger refresher to 4 parts water. it tastes quite nice too!!

hope some of you find it helpful....

Wow do green tic tacs really work! I'm new on here finally pregnant after four years of trying! Only 6 weeks and I feel sick all day. Came looking to see if anyone else felt the same. Ok green tic tacs and ginger......oh god makes me want to puke thinking about eating that! :raspberry:

I'm just after 12 weeks now, and while nausea hasn't been too much of an issue, I dry-heave constantly! As soon as I get up from bed, it's on :D

I have found, as well as all the suggestions listed, I would be absolutely lost without Mentos and Extra chewing gum. As soon as the stomach tightens, I whack one in my mouth, and it's instant for me. I presume it's the mint, so works like the TicTacs

My m/s changes over the course of time, but I'm so glad I'm not actually vomiting! I dry-heave until I *burp* LOLOL Yuk!

i'm only 7 weeks pg, and up until now have largely been able to keep the nausea at bay by eating very regularly.
Unfortunately that's no longer working for me, i can barely keep any food down and was nauseous all last night, hardly got any sleep. Will try the other solutions recommended above, but i wondered if anyone has any advice on managing full time work with m/s? I hadn't wanted to tell my work i was pg until the 2nd trimester, but i can't stay home sick for the next 5 weeks either!

Hey Ladies,

I am 7 weeks PG and have constant nausea. I dont think its bad but its just constant. I am waiting for it to get worse! LOL

I have found whenever I am eatting I dont feel sick! So I was eatting pretzels and plain thins potato chips (soooo good) but i thought that I was having too much food, so today I bought some butterscotch to suck on. So far its made me feel better, until i had lunch. BUt after about another 5 lollies I was back to light nausea. ALso lemonade really helps me too! And when it gets really bad i have a banana paddle pop! Great for hangovers too!

Jen235, I am at work all day and as i said the butter scotch and lemonade has helped today. I just make sure i bring in heaps of different snacks and just munch away all day!

I hope it ends soon............for all of us!

What I've found over the whole 12 weeks is what worked weeks ago, doesn't have the same effect now haha. So that just makes it harder!

I work at home, and have HUGE admiration for you girls who have to keep working at jobs while battling the sickness :yelclap:

Has anyone used Nature's Own Ginger tablets for motion sickness? Someone gave me some today and I'm not sure if they're safe during pregnancy or not. I'm going on a plane tomorrow morning, and not really looking forward to it with my awful MS in the early hours of the day. ;)

I don't know about them, but the chemist gave me blackmores morning sickness formula. It's ginger and B6 I think. It does help most of the time. Except for today. I'm so over it. I never had MS with my son.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in :)

I swore by sea bands in my first trimester!! I wasn't sick once. Felt squirmy on and off, but hardly ever when I had my bands on.

You just get them from the chemist, they're less than $20 and you just wear one on each wrist (it says you have to wear both for it to be effective).

Good luck!

Ginger and lemonade didn;t work for me, but I found flat coke, and vegemite sandwiches did.
I threw up constantly from 8 weeks - 19 weeks. From 19 weeks I only threw up early in the morning, and by 27 weeks I was only throwing up if I ate anything other than a vegemite sandwich for breakfast!!

Good luck, hope it stops soon, it's just awful, but it's all worth it for the beautiful little bundle you receive at the end of it all!

Nothing seems to be working for me, it's become so bad I can't keep anything down and none of these tips seem to be working for me apart from the seasickness bands witch I haven't given a go yet. Anyway I've resorted to asking my doctor for something to take to help take the sickness away as it's totally consuming me 24/7 now.

I really feel for you! I don't have any more advice as nothing worked for me. It will come to an end eventually and your bub will be worth it all.
With DD1 I had nausea and vomiting 24/7 and only had a break between 7 and 8 months. I was in hospital almost weekly for the whole pregnancy (well from 7 weeks when the nausea began).
The nausea was much less the second time round.

The only thing that really helped me at all was IV fluids and IV Zofran every few days. Before you consider that, give the seasickness bands a go. I found I just ended up with pain from the pressure! I was also on Maxolon tablets every 8 hours and that worked for a few months.

try everything!

Everyone is different and even every pregnancy can be different, with dd1 bread was my saviour, with dd2 really really sour lollies, the ones that make you salivate before you even get them in your mouth were the trick!

Good luck, Im not looking forward to MS again

I haven't found anything that works so far. Haven't tried the green tictacs though! I am 12 and half weeks and was feeling sick from week 4-week 8 24/7, since week 8 the nausea comes in waves on and off during the day, but I have starting vomitting each day (am over it after nearly 4 weeks) and the one thing that is guaranteed to make me puke - brushing my teeth. Now that I have started second trimester, I am really hoping I will wake up one morning and it will be gone.

This is my 4th pregnancy. My eldest is 15 and my youngest is 8. With every pregnancy i have thrown up every day with everyone of them from the day my period was due to the day they were delivered. I lost between 7-8 kg in the first 12 weeks of evey pregnancy. This time around, i decided that i would not let it get the better of me. As soon as i found out i was preg, i made sure i ate every time i felt even a little bit sick. I have had to force myself to eat as i know that if i go past the point of feeling just a little sick, i end up REALLY sick. I have been having blackmores morning sickness ginger and B6 three times per day religiously! If i miss one, i soon know - and you have to keep a build up in your system or they don't work that well. I have also been having peppermints or chewing gum in between. I currently work full time and cannot let it overtake my life just yet!! I empathise with all of you that have bad m/s. Just keep trying - and keep trying to eat - even if it is just a vegemite sandwich (that is all i ate for 8-10 weeks with prev preg's). Good luck!:smiliedance:

This is my first pregnancy, and I felt very much like you do in my first trimester. No vomiting, just feeling sick all the time from about week 5 - week 13/14. I wore my motion/sea sickness bands from the time I woke up until the time I went to sleep, and they helped somewhat. I also ate a couple of water crackers before I got out of bed. I lived on oranges, as that was one of the few foods I could tolerate. I also drank ginger beer when I couldn't take it anymore, and the bubbles seemed to help ease it a little. You could probably drink anything carbonated, though. I also tried my best to avoid certain smells, as some of these got me close to throwing up, which I sometimes thought might be better...just to ease the nausea for a little.

I hope you find something that helps you. Try to remember that you're feeling this way for a reason, and that at the end it will all be worth it. :)

Sorry you are feeling so lousy ... I sympathise. I was sick until week 16 - all day and even worse at night.

I took ginger tablets which took the edge off, so much so that I would feel worse instantly if I didn't take them religiously every four hours. I also sucked on crystalised ginger. I used to love ginger but haven't been able to eat it since the morning sickness stopped - bad memories!!

I also found that carbs helped - breakfast cereal, bread rolls, hot chips, plain potato chips especially. Plus fried chicken burgers and chicken nuggets!!! The most important thing is to keep your tummy tank topped up.

Hang in there ... I woke up one morning around week 16 feeling perfectly fine, like a tap had been turned off, and quickly got back to normal eating habits.

I am now 36 weeks and have already forgotten alot about how sick I was!! Let's hope I forget the labour and birth just as efficiently!

take foods such as crackers, fruit, cut carrots and nuts.. that will help you to snack at the leisure times..drink herb teas that will make your health.drink plenty of water that will keep you out of nausea... then take breakfast without fail even if you don't feel hungry.

Hi,
I really feel for you. I had nausea and vomiting from 6 weeks till 20 weeks. I found the only thing that gave me any sort of relief was Fruit Tingles - they come in a roll, like Life-savers. I can't even stand the sight of a packet of them now but they definitely helped. Hope you find something that works for you. Hang in there.
