Has anyone ever succesfully used a paed urine collection bag?
My dd is 10 weeks and I'm trying to collect a urine sample so far I have used 2 bags and she has just managed to miss the bag and get her nappy so I took the nappy off and she missed the bag and weed on both of us and the lounge
so how did you get the bag on, particuarly if you have a dd??

I know I'm probably going to sound like a crazy lady but this is what i did.:p
DD is nearly 2 so I'm not sure how it will work for you. I put her next to the bath and ran the taps, no nappy on ofcourse. She did a wee and I sucked it up off the floor with one of those cheap syringes you get from the chemist. Easy!
Maybe you could leave her nappy off and lay her on some sort of plastic sheet and try it?

Possibly not the best idea, they need the sample not to be contaminated.
Mybabble  That is hilarious!!!
Lisamd - I found that I had to stick it a lot further towards the back than I thought...right inbetween her legs so when she did a wee it would go into the bag and dribble down...I hope that makes sense.
I also just left her with her nappy off until she did it so I didnt lose the sample.
Its not an easy task.

Another option is the baby bath. Clean it thoroughly and run boiling water around it then leave it to air dry. Play with your LO in it after she wakes up in the morning and then you'll have a clean uncontaminated area to collect the wee from (that's when DS does most of his wee, after he's been lying down for a while, getting him up seems to stimulate his bladder)

put cotton balls in the nappy, then wring them dry.. cotton isnt a contaminant :)

When placing the bag (ive done this a few times successfully) You need to ensure that the bag covers the actually hole in the vagina... which is towards the back. To stop the bag from leaking you need to make sure you stick it in the groove of the vagina... I usually fold this bit of the bag prior to sticking to get it to fit and then really press it on... yeah, she hates it, but it works!
Good Luck!

Next question
if I collect the sample to night do I put it in the fridge?

definitely put it in the fridge and make a note of the time you collected it.
I'm not sure if they can use it if its been stored overnight (even if in fridge). I usually gave up at night and tried again in the morning.
As the other posters have said, put the bag back further than you would think. Also, a trick nurses showed me was to leave some of the bag sticking out through the leg of the nappy so you could see when there was urine in it and you could collect it straight away.
Good luck, it gets easier. My DD is 4.5 now and still needs regular urine tests but thankfully pees in a cup on demand!

Never had to do this but I remember a family friend telling me that she had become an expert at urine samples in bubs as she had to do it so many times. I can't tell you anything more then that she would cut a hole in her girls nappy (disposable) for the bag to hang out through. This probably doesn't help but it is all I can recall from that particular conversation. Goodluck on your mission.
