Has anyone experienced this with their baby boy, or know someone who has?

DS has one undescended testicle and according to the paediatric surgeon, he will require surgery if it has not come down by six months :(

I'm interested to hear any stories.

Ooh there is hope yet! Thanks for your story, i'm praying they come down :fingerscrossed: It's good to hear that they can come down quite late.

Thanks for your story, I actually wasn't aware that testosterone injections were an option before surgery.

In A's case yes, its not commonly used. His now 9 (10 in Feb), has a few surgeries to go. I *think* one at 12, 15, 18 & 21. He has a lot of other problems to boot.

DS had undescended testicles at birth. They popped out when his hydoseal broke and he got a testicular hernia after his 2 month immunisations.

My DH had this problem and he had surgery to fix it when he was a bub. He is now 31 and has a very small scar just above his right hip that is only noticable if you have a real close look. He doesn't remember anything about the op.

A friend of ours had this as a child and it wasn't picked up until he was 12, by which time it was too late and he is now sterile  So obviously it needs to be taken care of...

Glad to be of service

Yes, the paed surgeon advised that the norm used to be 12 months but they are trying to push it back to 6 months. I wish I could remember why he said that though. I think it may have had something to do with fertility at a later date....anyway, I think 12 months is a much better age for a little bubba to be getting elective surgery...and I won't be doing it at 6 months unless I can see some hard stats!

Hi!
My ds had an undecended teste at birth, which we were told to keep an eye on because the teste can still make its way down in the first 6 months. When his teste still hadnt decended by 4 months we were sent to a surgeon who booked us in to have the surgery in our childrens hospital. My ds is now 15months old and only just last month had his teste pulled down.
Its a (fairly) simple procedure and it only took the surgeons (there were 2) one hour to complete.
The surgery involved them making a cut just above the groin area, very similliar to where u would get cut for a c-section and also making a small cut on his right teste. They insert a rod type thing and pull the teste down.
My DS was put under anesthetic for the whole thing.
Its been a month since my little boy had the surgery and his been completly fine, he has a tiny scar to show for it.
The surgeon explained to me that undescended testes need to be operted on before the age of 2. If left any longer infertility may result as the teste has remained up inside the body for to long and would have overheated.
Hope this helps:)

Thanks for your story! Glad to hear that the surgery sounds fairly straightforward

My story is pretty much the same as kylies. DS (now 2) had to have an op not long after his first birthday to bring down his left testicle.
It was a pretty quick operation. The hardest part was fasting, and seeing him in recovery when he was all groggy and confused from the unaesthetic. Afterwards he was none the wiser. He had 2 tiny cuts on his abdomen and one on his scrotum which were glued up rather than stitched. The scars are barely noticeable now.

The thought of your little one having to have an operation is so daunting, but it's a simple procedure. I think you'll be more worse for wear than what he will be!

Hubby had both operated on when he was a youngster.... No issues that I've heard of at all since the ops and he's very fertile ;) 2 tiny scars that are barely noticeable.
Good luck! I hope you can avoid the surgery.
