View Full Version : Schedule?!
What was your 'schedule' with your newborn? For example, when did he/she feed, sleep, how many times did you get up during the night etc etc...Just curious :D
With my baby I found she had a lot of "cat naps" rather than actual sleeps (as opposed to her now at 5 months). I was feeding her every 2 hours or so (BF) and it took about 45 minutes to feed her!
With nights she would wake up about 2.30am for a feed and then again at 5.30am and 7.30am. She finally slept through at 6 weeks - she started skipping her 2.30am feed but woke for the 5.30am feed and then she slept through that and woke only for the 7.30am feed. It was great! Finally had a whole night sleep! Yay!
I can only remember sleep, feed, sleep and repeat!
Only usually up for a short time to play and interact.

i remember ds slept alot and i spent most of the first few months in this "Schedule"
ds sleeps (so i sleep) ds eats then spews, bathe ds, ds sleeps (i shower) ds eats,ds sleeps....
it was like that till he was about 3 months.i didnt have set times to feed him it was hard enough trying to get him to feed and keep it down (he had feeding problems and was very spewy)
Ours found their 'routine' fairly quickly sleep, feed, change happened roughly every four hours and they started sleeping through the night DS1 was 3 weeks old DS2 was around 7 weeks.
Each bub is different, but follow bub's lead and you'll be fine!
Both mine fed and slept whenever they wanted...I only 'forced' a routine onto them for nighttimes, even that was just a bottle then bed at the same time each night.
DS woke twice a night til 6 weeks, then started sleeping thru (10hrs). He had 6 bottles a day at that age.
DD woke once a night til she was 3mths, then started sleeping 12hrs a night. She has always had less bottles than the formula tin says, she was having 5 bottles a day at 3mths.

Our bub basically had this routine. (it wasnt set in stone though - we'd alter it to suit her needs as they arose). Feed - Play - Sleep. She was fed about every 3 1/2 hours (from start of feed to the start of the next feed). Play time would include bathtime etc. I only remember having to get up about twice throught the night for feeds until she was sleeping through.
ds used to wake up every 3 hrs at nite for a feed and sleep a few times during the day, i think at about the 6wk mark he started to cut out feeds at nite! he only wakes up for half a feed at nite now

I'm such a novelist when I post, sorry  ...
DS has been an angel - generally, he has only woken once (sometimes twice) a night for a feed. In the past week or so, he has lept through 5 or 6 times (10-12 hours at night) - so he's getting there! I've noticed in the past few days the more he sleeps at night, the more he sleeps during the day - sleep breeds sleep, is what they say, isn't it?! But up until then he'd cat nap during the day and be quite happy to lay and watch what was happening around him.
His routine is change, feed, little play, sleep. He's been having 6 or 7 bottles/day as he sneeks one or two 2 hourly feeds in between 5 and 8pm to get him through the night. He has a shower with DP when he gets home at night before a feed. Normally he has his last feed 1 hour before he goes to bed anytime between 7.30pm and 8pm. Obviously this is all subject to change!!!
DD was a nightmare - feeding every 2 hours for the first 9 weeks :gloomy:  . She slept thru and completely changed her feeding habits once on formula overnight (literally!) - at 9 weeks (say 9 or 10 hours/night).
Both of mine were like clockwork right up until they were 5 months old.
DD1 slept for 5 hour blocks and DD2 slept in 3 hour blocks.

If you want to start a schedule for your and your DD, perhaps you could just go by whatever she wants for a few days and write it all down - like sleeps, crys, poos etc etc. After a while, you might be able to see a pattern, so you can plan around it.

DS is 10 weeks old, I'll give you his basic newborn schedule (I can't remember DD's LOL)
Feed - when he wants it
Sleep - when he wants it
Nappy change - when he needs it
Interact with mum/dad - when he's awake and happy
