My partner and i have discussed adoption as part of our future plans.
From my understanding the age requirements for Australia were that the couple were aged over 18 years of age.

We were considering adopting from Ethiopia. Does anyone know if it's true that you need to be 25 years or older to adopt from Ethiopia ?Does this mean we could only start the adoption process once we were both over 25?

Could we start the adoption process once my DP was 25?

Or could we start the process before then assuming by the time the adoption process was in the final stages DP would be 25. I understand it is a lengthly process so it would be difficult if we were to have to start once we were both over 25.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thankyou

You would need to contact the appropriate departments in WA for this, as while ICA has moved to a federal system there might be slight variations on how each individual state sees this issue.

Basically you need to contact child protection in WA.

Just a warning you will possibly get a lot of questions about why at such a young age your considering ICA.

If this is where your heart is at make sure you prepare answers to this and stick to your guns.

Personally I think with the extensive wait times they should allow you to start around the age of 20 or 21.

thanks for your advice Jackie7.
i do think it would seem more attainable if we could start the process earlier.

Will look into it more.

Bluelips - I am 23 and was looking at ICA - DCP told me that you both have to be 25 when your file is sent, but there is a long process before that happens (probably 2 years at least).

Definitely worth having a chat to DCP about it
