View Full Version : Conceiving a girl
Firstly, I realise that a lot of people have trouble conceiving at all and I should be happy with whatever I get and I would be BUT I have always wanted to have a girl and despite the fact that I have the most beautiful, adorable son who I love with all my heart, DF and I are going to TTC #2 after our wedding next year and I would really like to know what we can do to improve our chances of conceiving a girl. Any info would be very much appreciated. TIA.

Hello,
I have just looked into the whole girl thing. We have 3 boys and I always have wanted a little girl, dont get me wrong I would not change my boys for anything in the world but a little girl would just complete our family.
I bought the book, How to choose the sex of your baby, by Dr Shettles. I have a few friends that have used this method to get their chosen gender and suceeded!
Anyway to get a girl they say its mostly about timing. You need to know when you ovulate, then have sex everyday from the day your period ends until 3-4 days before Ovaultion, the closest they recommend is 2 and a half days.
It may take a bit of time, they say to start at 4 days, then 3 days, and then 2 1/2 if you dont get pregnant.
Well we tried it last month and had a cut off of 3 days before O, and I got pregnant! Will let you know if it worked.
Hope this helps....
Congratulations! Thank you so much for your post! :fingerscrossed: you get your girl!

As of next month we are going to try ttc a girl to. AS everyone else has said I would not be dissapointed if I got another beautiful boy but its worth a try right.
We are:
- BD every day from after AF to 2 day cut off before O.
- Dh having a hot shower/bath before BD
- Taking calcium and magnizium tablets
- Having more calcium, milkshakes yum!
I think thats all. Hope this helps, fingers crossed it works for us both!
It's actually the male who choses the sex, women have NO part in it whatsoever...

We all know those "Myths" don't work, So just hope for the best But don't have your heart set on a certain sex tho, whether its a boy or girl, It doesn't matter at all..

Yeah it's the male who picks the sex.
I have alsoheard once you have two of the same sex chances are 75% next one will be the same then once you have had 3rd they go back to even chance (sounds kinda stupid to me)
One thing I have noticed is that the people I know who have the same sex have them closer in age while the ones who have both have bigger gaps I dont know why this is just what I have noticed one lady had 3 boys a year or 2 between each the 5 years after the last had a girl.

I got told that it goes by the male also.
DD's father is one of 3 boys.
His father is one of 4 boys.
And what do you know I had a girl!!! So weird...
Everyone told me that i was going to have a boy, but I said from the beginning nope its a girl, I just had a feeling!! Well I sure proved them wrong.
I'd love a little boy for my next, but DD keeps telling me she wants a sister!! Maybe twins, one of each. :)

Actually, the female can have a big part in deciding which sperm makes it to the egg, with things like havign a more acidic or alkaline environment (boy sperm prefer alkaline, girl sperm prefer acidic) also the timing of course, the girl sperm are slower but survive longer, hence making it to the egg first if you dtd a few days before ovulating because the male sperm die quicker.
