View Full Version : Nappy genies
I've been thinking of buying one of these little gizmos for the bathroom so that I wouldn't have to rush out to the garbage room umpteen times a day. However, I'm a little concerned about the smell issue. Does it still pong the place up?
They aren't exactly cheap, either at around $60 for the bin and then $20 for the cassettes. Is it worth it?
All views appreciated :)

I haven't used one myself - because my best mate, who's baby is 9 months older than Claire - told me they are useless. She had a Tommee Tippee Nappy Wrapper, and said that her little boy's room still stank of poo.
I personally just get el-cheapo nappy sacks, and for pooee nappies pop them in there. For wet nappies, I whack them in a pedal bin in DD's room (next to her change-table), which gets emptied every couple of days - we don't have problems with smells. When she was newborn, we just put all her nappies in a pedal bin - most of them were pooee, but thankfully newborn poo doesn't smell (or at least not for breastfed babies - not sure about for formula fed).

I think I know what you mean - I've got the Tommee Tippee Sangenic, and found it really useful - it does cut down the pong, so it's used upstairs in DD's bedroom. When downstairs, they (the nappies) just go straight out to the wheelie bin. You also need to use some Febreeze or Nilodor inside the bin after you empty it, or the smell will still tend to linger.
As for the cost, you might be able to pick one up second hand. I did - much cheaper that way!;)
