View Full Version : Pains
Hi i am 18 weeks pregnant and today i have been getting what feels like mild period pains does anyone know what this could be?
Is it just things stretching and moving?
i sorta had that too and i got told that it was jus the 'loosening' of your hips and bones and stuff, that all your bones get looser the further along u get plus the extra weight u carry, thats jus what my physio told me thu
Could be the stretching of your uterus to accommodate the little one and all it's accompanying fluid.
Could also be the beginnings of Braxton Hicks contractions.
Hope that's what it is *Meeg* :fingerscrossed:
What exactly are Braxton hicks?
Hi Sarak7
I had those too, and asked my GP.... He said the same as MeeG does, like the ligaments are stretching. No fun! :o

Basically, they are practice contractions. The uterus just starts tensing and releasing in order to tone itself up for labour. According to various sources, they start for most people around the 20 week mark. Mine started slightly earlier, at 16 weeks or so.
They can be range from completely undetectable to quite painful. Mostly they are just slightly uncomfortable. Usually, you can feel them from the outside - the uterus goes hard, like the tight skin on a drum.

Yes, I too started to get braxton hicks around week 16-17. Don't worry too much these pains are all apart of your journey through pregnancy, hormonal changes etc. There will no doubt be other uncomfortable stages experienced too as pregnancy progresses ;)
