Interested to find out what age you gave your bub a pillow to sleep with...
Ds is 9 months and I think he likes having a pillow but I am not too sure about it .
my dd had a pillow, a very small one though, it was more of a comfort thing then a pillow.
At one year I think its safe but it would depend on the child.
Only need a cot size pillow.
I've put a pillow in DS cot when he had a cold to help him breathe a bit easier. Although I put it under the sheet so he couldnt play with it! :)
I never bothered with pillows until we moved them to a big bed (2 years and 18 months). And that was mainly for decorative purposes  . They never missed it because they'd never slept with one before.
Cheers

I think I gave Matthew one at around 8mths. It was only about 3cm thick though.

Our DD has only just started to use a pillow (the same time she went into a big bed), and she's 18 months.
DD1 didn't have a pillow till she turned 2 and moved to a big bed. She sleeps most nights without it still now.
SIDS do not recommend the use of pillows before 2 yrs of age.

I thought it wasnt recommended before 12 months.
I think when our DS was about 12mths we brought him his first pillow - just a cot one which is about 3cm thick. Now hes two we have just given him a normal pillow (but not a really soft cushiony one) as he really likes ours when he comes into our bed in the morning. He normally sleeps off the pillow in any case.

19. At what age can I introduce cot bumpers and pillows?
Soft, puffy pillows and bumpers are not necessary in a cot. They may cover the baby’s face and obstruct breathing. Older babies in a cot can use pillows and bumpers as a step to climb up and fall out of the cot. Once a child starts to sleep in a bed, a pillow may be introduced.

That is a very general statement that one. I was in a bed from day dot. DS2 was in a bed at 8mths, but some kids are still in cots until around 3-4. You think they would have a specific age. But yeah, I just gave my kids one when they moved into a bed.

My son Jye just turned 2 this week, he's in a cot and still doesn't have a pillow. I think i might give him one now that he's past the sids stage.
I have recently been thinking of giving EJ a pillow in her cot cause when shes in bed with me (a lot recently and trying to get her back in her cot more) she will sleep better with her head on one than she does without it. Ive been wondering on what the correct age was also?

Brooke has had a pillow since she was 8 months. totally fine here and she loves it .. you will find her walking around the house with her pillows and laying on them and talking to her toes ..
It really does help them sleep! do what feels right .. and keep it safe!

sorry I know this is an older thread.. but thought I'd bring it back from the dead..
dd is 14 months and I was thinking of giving her a pillow, a thin adult sized one, as she keeps lying down on it in the loungeroom and looks very comfy lol, and cries when I take it off her.
Do you think it would be safe, if it was placed underneath a fitted sheet so she can't acctually get it over her head etc.?
She did have a tiny little cushion thing under there already but it barely makes a difference. Its about 1 cm thick.

We moved DS into a toddler bed at 12 months and bought him a latex travel pillow. It is maybe 2 or 3 cms thick but flat. Havent had a problem with it. We bought it because DS was using our pillows when sleeping in our bed and we found he slept better
I gave DD a pillow about 18 months, was just a pram pillow and she had that until 2.5yrs, then she got a big one.

i co-slept with my bub from birth, so i always held my arm around her while she slept, but during the day she slept in my bed without me and i always had her on a pillow.

yeah it it is under a sheet she wont be able to move it.
DD is 11 months and since she was about 8 months she has a pillow but i only put it in there when she is having a bottle or if she has a snotty nose.
she usually rolls off it so it doesnt stay int there
At 15 months old Tom took a spare pillow out of the linen cupboard and put it on his bed. I think he didn't get why he didn't have one and we did. I've let him keep it although most nights he still doesn't actually use it, it gets thrown off the bed once he's comfy.

thats so cute!
i think under the sheet is a good idea, until they are a bit older...so they cant get their head under it...

Recently I started propping DD (15 months) up on a pillow because she has a cold and her nose gets blocked. She looks comfy too, but I find that most of the time she will roll off it, or creep back down so her head is flat on the mattress. LOL. She is having a nap and using one at the moment.
My DD has slept with a bear, almost half the size of her and her blanket, so I think she is used to having things around her face and I am pretty sure she can move it away so she can't suffocate?
I think it's a good idea to put it under the fitted sheet so she can't get it over her head
