View Full Version : Natropath to help with TTC
Hey everyone
I have been talking to my SIL and she has told me that she is seeing a natropath to help her with TTC, and has suggested that i see one also.
What i wanted to know is, has anyone gone to see one and if it has helped and if it is worth while seeing one or just sticking to traditional medicine?
:babydust2: to all :)

I didn't see a natrupath but saw an acupuncturist and did Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The lady I see told me to expect it to take 12 months to conceive.. it took us four months of treatment :)
Good luck with TTC! its not easy! :hugs:

 Hi Kim
Well, I'm a nurse, so I'm more in to traditional medicine. However, having said that, I once saw a naturopath at a Health Expo, who also did irridology, and she pinpointed my caffeine intolerance just from looking at the spots in my eyes!!
I guess if they are registered there is no harm in trying.... and hey, if you get a good result, let me know.... I may just jump on the band wagon!
 sky.
I am really interested in knowing if it works as i have heard so many people talking about all the medication they are on that the doctors have perscribed but i have never heard about the natural side.
I am not one quick to pop a pill and i just thought i would check.
I would really like to hear others views good or bad.

The fundamental philosophy with naturopathy is 'to do no harm' so if you find a reputable one you don't really have anything to loose.
They will look at our lifestyle and give a holistic approach to "re-balance" you - generally using a combination of dietary changes, excercise and herbs.
If money is an issue, you can visit student clients like those run at The Endevour College of Natural Medicine. It may be worthwhile going to one just to get a feel of the naturopath experience and see if it is something that resinates with you.
My personal preference is for a natural chinese doctor - not sure why I just do and I like accupunture. I just m.c at 8weeks and am planning on going to TCM to get all my bits back in order and TTC in June 2010.
Good luck

I should mention the nautropaths generally believe that
-health is a your body natural ability to maintian homeostasis (basically keeping your body in balance - just like your body keeps your temp at a set temp. When you are sick your temp may go up or even drop. You are not actually sick because your temp has changed, your temp change is a system of something else wrong in the body)
If you have TTC - they look at what is out of balance in your body that may be presenting as problem TTC. Say your not ovulating as an example - a drc approach may be in give you a hormone to make you ovulate directly. A naturopath may look at underlining things - not the ovulation as such = say stress or vitamins etc and look at rebalancing those. Once those are rebalanced then your body is able to naturally produce the hormones to ovulate. Does that make sense?
They dont believe in "fixing" the broken thing, but supporting and strengthening the body to enable it to "fix" itself.

I had endometriosis. Do you have a diagnosis for your infertility OP? My naturopath was also an iridoliogist and I was also amazed at how right on she was.
She put me on a strict detox diet for 2 weeks to flush my system. Then she put me on several herbs and vitamins, which most you can get at the supermarket, the others at the health food store. It cost me a few hundred dollars to see her several times then a few hundred dollars to get all my herbs (I bought in bulk, it's cheaper that way.) There was a lot of tablets to take, about 15 a day.
Then after one cycle I found out I was pregnant :smiliedance: I couldn't believe it. If I hadn't know several women that have had almost immediate success with naturopathy, I may have chalked it up as coincidence, but it wasn't. I had a work colleague that had 13 years of infertility, had every procedure done and was on heaps of different meds. She saw a naturopath and 3 months later she was pregnant.
Naturopathy and chinese medicine has excellent success with infertility, especially endo, PCOS and irregular periods. Really, what do you have to lose? If it doesn't work you are still where you are now right?
I have not Diagnosed with anything delirium i have only been trying for 10 weeks, my SIL has suggested it as she knows that i have been trying.

Ah ok. The naturopath can prescribe herbs that can increase your chances. Zinc is also very important in improving sperm motility and mobility, so grab your partner a bottle of zinc from the supermarket.

hey kim, after months of not getting pg after a mc i went and got a herbal tincture of shatavari.. fell pg with my dd1 2 months later, all for under $30
Shatavari is the premier Ayurvedic herb recommended for women. Known to be very effective in enhancing fertility, its name in Sanskrit literally means "a hundred spouses". Also known by its latin name of Asparagus racemosus, Shatavari is a climbing plant which grows in the low forests of India. It is mainly the roots of the plant that are used for medicinal purposes.
As per Ayurveda, Shatavari helps in balancing the "Pitta Dosha" as it is a natural coolant. It possesses sweet (madhura) and bitter (tikta) tastes (rasa). Shatavari's properties include being rejuvenative, aphrodisiac, galactogogue, antacid, demulcent, laxative, diuretic and antispasmodic.
Benefits of Shatavari:
1. It is the best known female rejuvenative.
2. It balances the female hormonal system.
3. Shatavari enhances fertility by nourishing the ovum and female reproductive organs. It builds blood, prepares the womb for conception and prevents miscarriage. It is also a post-partum tonic where it helps to normalize the changing hormones and increases lactation.
4. Shatavari is a sexual stimulant and increases libido.
5. Shatavari balances pH in the cervix and soothes dry membranes on the vaginal wall
6. Shatavari helps to relieve PMS symptoms such as pain and controls blood loss during menstruation and regulates ovulation.
7. It is used by nursing mothers to improve lactation.
8. It is useful in amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, leucorrhea and pelvic inflammatory diseases.
9. Since Shatavari increases estrogen levels it is very useful in overcoming menopausal symptoms and for those who have undergone hysterectomies.
10. Considered very useful in bronchitis and chronic fevers as it also soothes dry membranes in the upper respiratory tract.
11. Shatavari is also considered effective in hyperacidity, stomach ulcers and dysentery.
12. Shatavari is beneficial in improving male fertility as well and used in cases of sexual debility and low sperm count.
13. Shatavari is also said to promote positive, healing feeling or Sattva and calms negative emotions like anger and irritability.
14. In children, Shatavari is said to help in growth, weight gain and improving brain functions.
15. Studies have also shown that Shatavari also stimulates machrophages which are immune cells that help in destroying harmful organisms and cancer cells. As a result of its effect on machrophages, Shatavari helps treat candida.

Wow BJ, that sounds like a really great herb. Is it tablet form or liquid? Where did you get it from? Sounds similar to chasteberry.:detective:

i had it in liquid form, i think it was only 10 mls or 25 mls a day.. ;)
there is natural health place in a nearby town, and i knew the owner since i was a kid, i found out about shatavari in an älternative"magazine.. so i went in, asked about it, told them why i wanted it.. they went and made it for me... i didnt even get through half the bottle:D.. and have had no issues with conceiving since:)
ETA: i wanted this one because not only did it help with fertility, it also helps the womb.. after mc i was worried about my uterus , if it was up to it..and also cause men can use it too
Sounds very Interesting Bonny-Jane i am going to look into that. Can it be purchase in most health stores?

I don't have any experiences myself with natropaths but I'm seriously considering going to one this month. One of the mums from my mums group saw one when she started IVF. She went straight to IVF as her DH had already had a vasectomy so it was reversed, but they were told IVF was their best chance.
Well she saw the natropath for a few months beforehand to prepare her body (she was 39) and they fell with the very first IVF treatment. I'm going to see her same natropath as she specialises in fertility even though it's over an hour's drive away. :fingerscrossed: she can help me
Good luck with your TTC journey Kimnus!
Thank Daydreamer1 and good luck to you to :babydust2:
Well with all these comments i am starting to think that my SIL might be right by going to one.
Everyone seems to have had a good experince with them.

i was recommended to take vitex which is a natural herb, actually comes from a berry i think. it is supposed to aid with balancing your hormones, can be used for PMS or acne too. i take 1 a day, have only started a month ago so cant tell you if it works yet but 2 of my friends took it for 3 months and got preg pretty easily.
i also take zinc and so does DH as it is supposed to help with sperm production too.
Well I have taken the plunge and booked myself in to see a Natropath next Saturday (mind you it was hard to book in with them as they were really booked out). :fingerscrossed: Ladies. I will keep you updated on how things go.
:babydust2: forever one
My natropath prescribed mint on a daily basis. 4 1/2 years later we fell pregnant. So yeah big :yelclap: for natropaths.

We used zinc and a natural progesterone cream and fell on the third cycle
Awesome :yelclap: i am loving all this positive feedback. It is really making me think i made a good choice with making an appointment with them.
I don't know if any of you are from the Illawarra but i have booked into a place in Thirroul and i just wanted to know if anyone has been there?
