Liquid Soap

We use it in the kitchen, laundry & bathroom.
So simple it's almost a non-recipe, really, but is eco-skin-wallet friendly so here goes.

1/4 bar grated natural soap
3-4 drops tea tree or other essential oil
2-3 cups boiled, still hot water

Pop your grated soap into a glass container or bottle, pour in boiled water and essential oil. Shake together very well until dissolved and pour into your old pump-pack or soap bottle.

It's amazing how economical this is compared to the stupidly high costs of the commercial stuff. Hubby LOVES liquid soap (for some reason ) so we've turned to this style and are all happy.

Washing Powder (clothes)

3 cups washing soda (available at Coles)
1 bar natural soap, grated
1/4 cup vinegar OR lemon juice
Few drops essential oil such as eucalypt

Put the washing soda and grated soap in a large glass jar and mix to combine.

That's it! I store this jar in my laundry cupboard along with the vinegar/lemon juice & oil. When I put on a wash, I pour between 1/4 - 1 cup of powder mixture in to dissolve and add the vinegar and oils under running water. Surprisingly effective - everything comes out lovely and fresh.

Cat Food

We buy 1kg pcks of roo mince from the grocery store, as it seems the best solution. Cats of course do need meat as their diet but beef mince is not eco-friendly at all and the costs can also be rather high.

I put the roo mince in a saucepan over low, let it brown, then sometimes throw in an egg or two, or stretch it out with some rice/pasta.

This freezes nicely, and feeds two adult cats for at least one-two weeks.

Feel free to add yours, please! I am especially needing handy dish-washing recipes, and anything to do with hair-care - shampoos etc.

I went to IGA and purchased 2 microfibre clothes for $2, black and gold brand, and clean my house with just water now. I found these got grease off my oven tiles better then the expensive products you can buy. I also got a microfibre mop and did my floors today, with just water. found it wonderful it got some stuff off i had struggled with my normal mop to get off.

I clean my sides with a mix of vinegarand water in a spray bottle (can add lemon juice to reduce the vinegar smell). Or jsut use my microclothes.

To make febreeze 2 tbsp of fabric softner in a spray bottle of water shake and use.

carpet deoderiser, bicar and essential oils, mix sprinkle and leave for a couple of mintues and then vaccum. or use talc.

Thought I'd bump this thread as I'm looking for recipes for great homemade cleaning products.

One I'm going to try out tomorrow:

All Purpose Surface Cleaner
2lt water
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup bi-carb soda
3 drops essential oil

Mix together and store in a spray bottle for use on most household surfaces.

Please add any other recipes you may have.

i'm particularly interested in homemade laundry liquid suitable for use with MCNs.

Cheers

not exactly a recipe but thought i would share this one - easiest non-chemical way to clean your microwave:

cut a lemon and put it in a bowl with a few tablespoons of hot water. zap on high for a minute, any gunk on the inside of the microwave will be loosened and you can just wipe it out.

also i second the micro-fibre cloths, the cheap $2 ones work just as well as the exxie ones.

A VERY easy recipe for a spray cleaner (I use it in the bathroom, kitchen benches, highchair etc) is a spray bottle filled with water with 1-2 capfuls of water soluble teatree oil. Also - good for mopping floors - 1 capful in 1/2 bucket of piping hot water!
