HELP!!! 3yr old Constantly pooing undies.....

I hope someone can help with this one cause im all out of ideas :fingerscrossed:

My dd is toilet trained but wears a pullup at night (which are getting dryer).

But......... we have a serious daytime delima. She seems to constantly poo in her undies all day. We can go through up to 10 pairs in one day. Normally she is pretty good, but we seem to go through these stages where she will just do it ALL day - drives me nuts.

I tell her to do it on the toilet and if she feels she needs to go then to come and get me, but she doesnt and does part of it in her pants (sorry TMI). Its also really tacky and difficult to clean and doing this all day long can be really frustrating. Almost as if the one poo is come out in bits and pieces literally all day long!!!!

Hi there I dont know if this will help but when we were toilet training DD we had the same problem she was fine all day except when it came time to do a poo.

Anyway whenever she went in her undies I would take her to the toilet and tip the offensive stuff in. Saying "see poogoes into the toilet" or something like that anyway. It took a while but one day she just turned around and started going to the toilet to do it:smiliedance:

Have you thought that maybe she isn't quiet ready for the toilet just yet ?? sorry but that was my first thought. I hope someone can help you out :)

hope this helps... had same problem with my eldest daughter.. what i did was when she did poos in her knickers i put the poo in the toilet and told her poos go in the toilet, and encouraged her to use the toilet for poos also, it took a while, but she soon learnt and i never made a huge deal out of it, i always gave her praise when she did do poos on the toilet. hope this helps:fingerscrossed:

my DS is 3.5 and we have the exact same problem with him... having talked to my friends about this they've all told me that there children did the same thing for two to SIX months after wee training.... DS has been 'wee' trained for 2 months now... nothings working here so far with #2's!

I'm glad to see this talked about actually... makes me feel better lol

i feel for you with changing her underwear... we go through the same thing daily here too!

MY story ..... just what I have been told and in no way am I suggesting this IS the diagnosis ......

I've just been to the gastro specialist with my DS1 and was told it is probably a blockage in the bowel due to constipation which the stool builds up behind and finally "overflows" around it causing them to soil. He suggested that children this age (3-5yrs) need MORE healthy fats in their diet ... ie avacado, BUTTER (not marg) and a cooked brekky occasionally. he suggested that I watch for "signs" that it's happening and that they although are VERY subtle ARE there. And he made me look at the times he soils MOST which would be shortly after having fatty foods such as McDonalds.

Also we noticed that he will eat his food in 15 min flat ... .after that 15min mark he will start to squirm and fidget and say he is full ... the gastro said it takes 15min for the food to reach peristalsis (sp?) and that at that point he was in "pain" which he has lived with for all his life so far. so he scoffs his meal to beat the "time" and then leaves it all alone. Also he refuses lumps of meat (always wanting mince, sausages, chicken nuggets) and the gastro suggested that is because eating the tougher meats he has to chew it for an age and it hurts as he swallows as he has silent reflux and it feels like he is choking when it goes down. Think about when you were pregnant - did you have reflux - did you feel like eating solid steaks and such.

I just wanted to share what we were told in an effort to give you something to think and talk further with your doctor on.

The part that concerns me is - DS1 has to have a tablet for reflux .... and sachets laxative type stuff for constipation - BUT the increased fat in his diet will to start with CONSTIPATE him ..... ??????????? I'll give it a go ..... I guess.

Wow. I can relate to you all about this. My dd took a while after being wee trained to do poos in the toilet.
I tried the reward system which worked quite well for poos. I know it is very frustrating when they do it quite a lot during the day.
It could also be an attention seeking behaviour.
Maybe you could try to keep tabs on the time of the day it is happening ie what are you both doing at the times she is doing this?
Also she may be reacting like this due to the reaction you are giving her - I don't want to seem judgemental of you but a lot of the time it is hard for us mums to stand back and say "Maybe I should try a more positive approach" especially when we're at our wits end trying everything under the sun to overcome this dilemma.
I know there's alot of things I give a negative reaction to and then afterwards think maybe I shouldn't have said it like that. Between the age of 2.5 - 4 years children are very stubborn and very independant.
Another thing I tried is putting her baby doll on the potty and really praising her - saying "Well done baby, you've done poos in the potty. Would you like a sticker for doing poos in the potty?" children learn a lot from what they see and hear.

A friend of mine saved a weeks worth of her 3 1/2 yo pooy undies :eek: (ponky I know but closed them in a nappy bucket with the bulk of poo down the toilet) and got her ds to clean them himself.

You will either agree or disagree with this - the outcome

This is what i did. I took my 3yr old shopping and let him pick his own undies, He picked all spiderman. And he hasnt had an accident since :D

I am going to be watching this thread closely. My DS is 2 1/2 and has been wee trained for almost 4 months, but 'holds on' till the night time nappy to do a poo. On the days when he can't hold on he goes into another room and secretly does it in his undies.

I have been very positive with him, even still telling him it's ok and next time he can try and go on the toilet like a big boy, treats if he even tries, reward system but nothing is working!

It is nice to know that there are more of them out there!

sorry...but my first bubby was exactly this and i tried EVERTHING...
in the end i surrendered.. (he always sat under a table to do the no.2 in his undies)
AND
he stopped doing it by himself..within a few weeks :) (he was also a bit over 3yo)
