are those mechanical baby swings worth the $150 +? we never had one for ds and i wonder how long the baby is in it before they grow out of it. (being 6 ft 3 i tend to breed tall babies)
as ive been given heaps of hand me downs this preg i have not had to buy much and i feel i should buy one big item, but dont want to waste my money

I love my swing... It is really handy when bubs is being grumpy and you need to cook dinner or do the chores because the rocking calms bubs, and sometimes when bubs just wont go to sleep and needs to, the swing does the trick!!!

Love it!!!

I know from working in childcare with young babies that some bubs don't like it... but most did.

We bought DS a swing and he loves it. When he was a newborn it was so handy to have especially when we were eating dinner. He would sit in there at the table with us and chill out,LOL!! It used to calm him as well. He doesnt use it much now, he prefers the floor or his highchair, but I do recommend them, they are great!

DS cant stand it!! Luckly we were only borrowing it, I also found it VERY bulky and in the way.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE our swing. Before we got it I could never get anything done as DS wanted to be held all day. Now I could literally leave him in the swing forever (not that i would!) and he would be happy.

It stimulates him when he's happy and then puts him to sleep when he's tired. Sometimes he fights sleep and wont go down in the cot so I put him in there and the rocking will put him out in no time. IT IS THE BEST!

We got the Fisher Price Cradle Swing, which is the only one that swings from side to side as well as forward and back. New babies much prefer the side to side motion and although this one is a bit more expensive and bulky I think it's much better for bubs under about 4-5 months.

Finally, we got ours on ebay and saved heaps. They are $295 in stores and we got one that was 3 months olds, barely used for $120! Definitely worth looking into this.

Hope this helps, as you can see I can't reccomend it highly enough! If it means I can take some time to have a coffee, chat on bubhub and keep my sanity it's a worth every cent!

We love our swing and DD loved it too!! Well worth spending the money on one of these.

The Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Take Along Swing is quite compact and you can take it when visiting friends/family as it folds down. When it is up, it doesn't take up too much room (some of the big ones that aren't portable would take up a lot of room).

My girlfriend is now going to use it when her bub is born and then we will use it again when #2 comes along for us.

The swing can hold a baby up to 11.3kgs.

I was really interested in the Fisher Price swings... or any swing really...

But can someone tell me, are they just battery operated? Or can you plug them in? I don't want to be forever buying batteries....

My bub is 10 weeks old, and I use my swing just about everyday. I haven't needed to replace batteries yet. I'm not sure if there are some that you can plug in though. It makes more sense in the long run I guess.

My DS loves his swing, if I need to cook dinner or something I'll just pop him in and turn it on!! I have one of the fisher price ones and it's great he loves the lights!!!
