My ds had an appointment with his paed yesterday to discuss a number of issues. He had a skin prick test 2.5 weeks ago, which showed up quite a few significant allergies:(

Our paed was very concerned about these results, and said several of his allergies were severe enough to warrant us needing to keep an epi pen on hand.

My problem is that this was never even mentioned after he had his skin prick test done. We were simply handed a piece of paper with numbers on it, with no discussion. The girl who performed the test was not very helpful at all with any questions that I asked.

I just assumed that if they picked up severe allergies, that they would at least mention this. She was well aware we weren't seeing a paed until 2.5 weeks after the test.

Is this common practice for them not to discuss the results or warm parents? Or did this girl just not do her job properly?

What have your experiences been?

Thanks

Hi There,

I know how u feel... the same thing happened to us & I was given a piece of paper & now have to wait till next week (3months later) to see my allergist.

She came up with 14mm for egg white,6mm for yolk and a few for peanuts & almonds.

What were your numbers?

try not to worry too much,I know its very streeful

Often those doing the testing aren't in the position to discuss the outcome. They are only to do the test. I know when DS had his done it was only a nurse who did the test and I had to wait to speak to the paed afterwards (I made a double appointment so they both lined up ;))

That's standard practice. They are qualified to do the testing, but not to actually read the tests IYKWIM.
It's a bit stressful the first time...but each time after that you already have the epi pen so you just wait and see what your results. This year my girls got tested in March and we didn't have a paed appt. until May. I had a lot of questions to ask but the woman who did the SPT really wasn't able to answer them (I didn't ask her...I was just making comments on her numbers and she just kept saying 'you'll have lots to talk to her doctor about'), we just had to wait for the paed...and are now almost done with our 8 month wait to see the immunologist in regards to further testing for DD1.
You learn to wait things out.
