SPP taxable yes... FTA+B not taxable.

CS is seen as the kids money not actually yours so is not taxable

HTH :)

i think it would depend on the amount of child support

the SPP by itself is below the threshold for tax (I didn't pay tax on it) but it is probably combined with the CS payments and the total amount may be taxed if it goes above the threshold

if you really need to know, ring the ATO. You will get a lot of different answers here and the easiest and most reliable way is to ask the ATO because there are a lot of different scenarios

in my case, the answer to your question is no

ATO isnt open right now when I got the thought in my head.... which is why I queried on here as many people have been on it for a long time, some short, but they should know if they have paid tax on it or not.....

I know Partnered is but was unsure if they classed single the same!

PPS is a taxable payment, you will receive a Payment Summary for it..... however it often falls below the tax free threshold, particularly if you do not work during the year at all, thus you won't actually be liable for any tax on it....

Ah thought it was thanks Veritas....

So is it declared as taxable income on your FTB income estimate?? It'd have to be right?!?!

When i switched from SPP to PPP i had to declare to them the amount i had gotten for SPP for the financial year, which leads me to believe it is a taxable income :)

I've always had tax coming out of mine. Even when she was a tiny baby and I wasn't working, tax was deducted and I've always had a Group Certificate that needs to be lodged at tax time.

i think centrelink says it is taxable but with tax offsets you don't pay tax if it is your only income (?)

but does that answer the OP about whether you pay tax if you get CS payments and the SPP? I'm still curious about that - do they combine CS + SPP and then you pay tax if it is above the threshold?

Child Support already has taxed paid on it by the payer (other parent) therefore is not counted as taxable income for the recipient...

Yes, as far as I'm aware, from talking to Centrelink, SPP is taxable :). You need to include it your FTB income estimate.

SPP is taxable, but you've got to get a certain amount before you have to pay tax... and a single parent with one child won't get enough to be taxed.

This is how it was when I wasn't living with DDs father in the past, so it may have changed... but I don't think so.

I would assume as CS is calculated on gross income then it wouldn't be seen as already having tax payed on it. Not saying that it is or isn't taxable income, just that it's calculated and paid on the before tax amount. Not fair a payer pays an amount calculated on an amount they don't even get but that's another thread....

Yes CS is calculated based on the Gross taxable income, but is an after tax deduction not before tax....

The payer is liable for tax on the amount not the recipient...

It is not considered income for the recipient, nor are you issued a payment summary for CS received...

It is NOT considered taxable income for the recipient....

As to debating the fairness of CS calculations, well that doesn't relate to anything here...

Here is the process of how it is deducted.... http://www.csa.gov.au/employers/amount.aspx....tax has already been paid on the amount before it is deducted....
