Hi there

I have an 8 week old girl who is starting to display some strange things.

She is formula fed and of late is starting to jerk around later in the afternoons and evening feeds. She drinks normally for the first half of the feed but starts to jerk her head around for the second half of the feed. This seems to happen late afternoon and of late her bedtime feed. The bedtime feed doesn't seem to stop her from mostly finishing the bottle, nor is it affecting her nighttime sleep.

This afternoon though she missed her feed all together as she drank about 30mls and then spat it up, then wouldn't touch the rest of the bottle. Everytime I put the bottle in or near her mouth she screamed. She then had a bad case of hiccups after working herself up. Her breath stank like fermented milk.

I have just finished reading the other thread on silent reflux....

Could this be what she has????

What are the signs of reflux????

She is not vomiting at all, and if she does it is more like a possitt.

The thrashing with the bottle has only recently started like a few days ago or so.
The screaming and refusal of the bottle only started tonight.

Any advice would be great.

Hi. I have a 4mth old who is on medication for reflux. He hated being laid flat and you could hear him refluxing when you did. To the point of starting to choke a couple of times. Everything is raised now though he is getting a little better. Sometimes Malakai will jerk around and pull off if he has wind. Have you tried burping her? My aunt is a midwife and said you don't know if they have reflux when they are first born as it does not burn but when they get a little older they develop the acid and it starts to burn. That could be why she is refusing and screaming. My little guy got to an age of associating feeding with pain. The best thing to do is get a referal for a specialist if it continues. The medication will not stop the refluxing completely but will take away the burning (takes acid out of stomach). Hope this has helped.

Both my kids had reflux and the symptoms you are describing sound like reflux to me. Take your daughter to your Dr and discuss the problems with them. Both my kids were put on "Zantac" which helped a lot. Good luck

hi, when i thought tere was something wrong and i had tried everthing that others had suggested i went to the health nurse they showed me a very handy video on reflux then i could see for myself the signs. my little girl has silent reflux as well some of the symptoms she had hard to breast feed at the start like she was resfusing to feed, arching her back and it seemed like she was pushing her feet away from herself. them came refusing to have bottles only haveing 30mls or so and taking ages to finish it having breaks between them and when she didn't have her quota for the day she would deffinitly wake alot through the night, if you get on to it early it can save you alot of bad habit they get in to later.
