I am so sorry if this seems like a silly question, but I have a 7 week old that likes to wake up before his feed, eat and pretty much sleep right away. I want to take him to visit MIL tomorrow and am not sure if I should:

A) Feed him, put him in the capsule and go to MIL (about a 25 min drive), arrive and he will wake (hates the capsule), stay there for a bit and perhaps leave either before or after his bottle.

OR

B) He will most likely wake one hour before his bottle is due, so I can put him in the capsule take him to MIL, give him a bottle there, he will probably want to snooze a little, then again leave either before or after his bottle.

WDYT???? :o

I use to always feed the boys first before I went out, at least I knew that way they were happy for the trip, and maybe stay for a while and feed before you go? Or when you get home, it is really up to you.

I'd probably do this too. The amount of times I had to stop along the way to feed lol... never ventured far, either! All the best!

You can't lock yourself away just to keep the baby happy - honestly they have to learn to change their routine occasionally or eventually it will do your head in never being able to leave the house.

Just give bub a feed before you go and either get home before he is due for another or wait there until his next feed before you go home. If he has a cry in the car he will be fine - heaps of babies hate the car seat - doesn't mean you don't put them in it means you put them in a little more to get them used to it as the car is a part of life.

I still not sure when the best time to go out is. I do tend to feed, have a short play and then go out during sleep time, hoping he will nod off. Doesn't always work. He is starting to be up longer now, so might try going out during this time and exposure him to the big wide world.

Try what your comfortable with and see how it goes. :)

We dont go out before the 10am feed unless we have too. I like to feed before we go any where & make sure bellies are settled before we go.

Example of a day trip for us. Happen to be going out tomorrow.

6am everyone is up, fed & dressed for the day
7.30am sleep in bean bags - i dont like to move them if i dont have too. to many fights

9.30am feed again - im normally done by 10.30 at the latest.

11am start loading car
11.30am car fulled loaded with bags & people

Next feed at 2pm. I take enough for 2 feeds, i expect ill be out for 1 but take back up. DS is know devourer everything in site.

Other reason i also feed before we leave is cause i know they will sleep in the car & not scream at me.

I say go for it :)
Get out and about and enjoy yourself.
I try to always feed and change DS's nappy before we go anywhere unless he hasn't long had a feed and we are going out for dinner or into the city. In that case I feed in the car and change in the boot when we get there. Buys us that extra time.
Good luck and I hope it doesn't feel stressful for you. I find that DS is good when we go out and about now because I refused to let his habits govern my life. I have taught him to sleep anywhere at anytime. Works well for us :)

I used to feed DS then go out. Babies are very adaptable, and the sooner they get used to getting out and about, the better, as they learn to sleep in the pram or car from a young age.

Sorry to debunk your theory but all babies are different and have their own little personalities. I didn't stay at home all the time and tried to put DS in the car and pram etc to sleep but it's just not him - he's never done it.. not even when he's crazy tired! So I really don't believe they 'learn' to sleep in the pram or car. As I said, they are all different. I know there are babies who fall asleep almost straight away in the car or the pram. DS is and always has been way too aware of his surroundings and would much prefer to look at everything as he goes!

Good on you Singa! In some ways it gets a lot easier as they get older- in other ways it is a little harder. My 4 mnth DD adores going out and is very rarely upset or unsettled when we're out- I think she gets bored at home and really loves a change of environment and the attention that comes with going out.

Why don't you just take enough bottles there for as long as you stay? I usually just feed Nathan before we go anywhere and have another bottle or two so if we end up staying somewhere longer than expected I (or someone else) can feed him. If Iam just going out for a short amount of time I don't worry about taking a bottle though.

Another thing? If your baby has a set feeding routing maybe feed him before you go and try to just go out after or a little bit before his feed (not during) or if you really have to go out at a certain time just give him half his bottle (or if you're breastfeeding maybe just a small amount of milk to help settle him for the time being). Like with Nathan one of his feeding times (he's bottle fed) is at 10am, so if I have to go out during the day (and there isn't a set time) I feed him around 10ish and then go out (or I feed half his bottle and the other half when we get to wherever we're going) if we have to go out while he is about to have a feed I try and give him a little bit of milk before we go otherwise I will just put up with him crying in his pram or in the car for a little while, though he has a dummy so that usually helps to settle him for about 5 minutes (and Hayley and Skye give him his dummy if it falls out).

Don't worry, DS didn't always love it, I always had to take the Baby Bjorn on walks because he would crack it and need to be cuddled. Oh, and initially he HATED the car too... We just persisted because I was determined to be able to get out and about and not be trapped indoors.

Tysonsmummy - glad it's worked for you. We still need to be home for naps or else they just don't happen. DS is 10 months old. Lucky for us though, he's not a cryer so if he misses a nap, it's not the end of the world :)
