Hi Wifey,

I find it very interesting - I was only just talking about that the other day with my partner actually. We have 3 girls and are pregnant with our 4th & REALLY hoping this one is a boy... although as you said we would love our baby no matter what the gender but we have always wanted a boy. We would be over the moon to hear those words "its a boy".

I can imagine it wouldnt be a cheap thing to under go? I am all for whatever happens happens and what you get you are meant to have... however it does make me very curious sometimes as to whether that could be an option :) So can i ask have you thought abouit trying for another one to see if you get a girl before under going this treatment?

Wifey - Can I ask...do you need IVF for fertility reasons as well or is it purely for gender selection?

Just curious, please ignore me if you dont want to answer that...:D

You're right, its not cheap - especially because right now Aussies have to add international travel to any treatment bill!

The Microsort itself is about $3k, and then ymost couples can do IUI (interuterine insemination) which is about $400 per round.

And yes, we did think about just getting pregnant again - because we're not opposed to another son, we just want a girl somewhere in the mix! And if this cycle doesnt give me a BFP we will decide whether or not to cycle again, or just TTC naturally!! Right now, I dont mind which one we decide..

Nup, I do not need IVF for fertility reasons. I got pregnant with my son the first month of trying. The reason we ended up using IVF with Microsort, instead of IUI, was the pregnancy rates associated with IVF are approx 50% for my age group, and they can also limit the number of embryos transfered (whereas IUI pregnancy rate is lower and can result in higher order multiples..)

Wifey - I think its very brave what you are doing...let alone coming on bubhub and telling everyone (people can be very opinionated) :p

Having gone through IVF I can assure you it's not an easy road to travel, although I think for IVFers where there is no hope of a natural pregnancy it's a different ball game. I'm not trying to be judgemental or say that IVF will be an easier for you just because you can conceive naturally, I just mean you seem to have a cooler attitude about it.

I read some of your diary and you seem to have a great attitude towards IVF but can I suggest having a think about how many embryos you will 'make' FET's are firstly much cheaper and easier (physically) than going through stims and also due to embryos not thawing properly. It would be a shame if you got to your last cycle and your last embie didn't survive the thaw and you had to go through all the hard work again

I think it's very noble that you are considering embryo donation to other couple too...what a massive step to take, thats awesome.

What part of your cycle are you at now?

Do you know when EPU will be?

I wish you :goodvibes: on this cycle and :fingerscrossed: for a baby daughter soon.

I looked into doing the whole gender selection as well. Not to the extent of IVF but all the at home options. I found one website to be fantastic with so much info on it. not sure i can put it up here!!
There are high tech and low tech ways to gender sway, i chose the low tech.
I didnt follow everything to a tee but i done most of what they say to.
I fell pregnant 2nd month trying and we are having a little girl after 2 boys.
So for us it worked and i am very glad we done what we did.

I would have been very happy with another boy as a baby is a part of you no matter what gender and he would been loved the same.

Good Luck Wifey i really hope you get your little girl!!

Thanks Kema, and I agree - IVF is definitely easier on me because I dont have the psychological aspect to deal with.. if this cycle doesnt work, we can realistically just ttc at home ourselves next month - a luxury I know many couples dont have.. :(

I am currently on the 2WW.. I had an embryo transfer yesterday morning with 2 little girls.. no frosties left over..

Right now Microsort is only available in the US but PGD is available all over the US, as well as Cyprus, Thailand and Turkey. HTH!

Hi there, im looking to go abroad to do IVF/PGD in Amman, Jordan in 2010. Im really nervous but also excited. Ive chosen the Farah hospital as the success rates are fab,and as i am from the UK where gender selection is banned, i can do the full 3 weeks in Jordan as finding a clinic to collaberate with in the UK is so difficult. I have 4 boys so i am going to hopefully try for a girl to complete my beautiful family!!!:smiliedance:

Has anyone else here been outside the USA for PGD?? Also is anyone here from the UK?!!!!

Angel

I doubt that the procedure would be ever be offered in Australia due to ethical reasons (perhaps for people who carry sex-linked diseases.

I think gender selection is currently available here (in QLD at least) for gender linked diseases. I'm going to be asking my FS/Ob about it when I next see him as our current baking baby has a gender linked abnormality that isn't life threatening (but will impact upon his quality of life). In rare cases girls get it (about 2% chance). I think it is for more serious diseases than ours - I'd love a little girl though...

Wifey - what sort of costs would I be looking at to have microsort? I know PGD is pretty expensive.

Microsort is 3k per cycle, and then the sorted sperm is used for IUI or IVF. Given that the pregnancy rate for IUI is so low (only about 15%) they recommend IVF for international patients - which sets you back another 10-15k.

Not a cheap exercise, but fantastic technology! :yelclap:

Btw, I know someone who is able to use PGD in Australia to try for a girl, because she has a son with autism (much more common in boys).

If you are passing on a sex linked disease (doesnt have to be life threatening) you may very well qualify for PGD for your next child right here in Australia. Its a lot cheaper than than the US, and here you get lots back from Medicare

Goodluck Wifey, I tried to suggest low tech gender sway to my husband, but he isnt interested, I would love to give my daughters a baby brother, and I would love to give my husband a son even though he says he doesnt mind what the gender is.

Really? If the site you're talking about is ingender.com I've posted heaps of links to it when people have been talking about gender swaying. My links haven't been deleted and I didn't know it wasn't allowed. I don't think bubhub would care about links to an American gender swaying website would they.
