I second Birralee being a wonderful hospital - Love the midwives at Birralee, so much so that we went back on Jesse's 1st birthday to have a photo with our favourite midwife!!
Also, Jesse was in the Special Care Nursery for 21 days and the staff in there are absolutely fantastic - very caring & supportive.

I had my 2nd son there and i loved all the midwifes i had contact with especially the one i had to see at my clinic appointments, my ONLY complaint was that at some antenatal appointments i had to wait for a long time with a 4 year old in tow.

I have not posted here till today but my god the feedback from everyone!!
I was starting to question my choice but now I think I will be happy to stay with Birralee.
I have had 3 appoinments there one with the doc and 2 different midwives. I wasn't sure about having a different midwife everytime.
And they have changed my due date at every appoinment!
I thought they would have you with the same one everytime.
I don't wont to have a different one again when i'm in labor.
But from what you guys have said I'll stick with it.
Thanks
Due August 17th or 19th

DueInAugust - Stick with Birralee ... I think they have a program called Know your midwife...so maybe you can go on that I think that's when you only see one midwife..but if your midwife is not on the time you go into labour you wont get her anyways.
I've had a lovely birth experience there..the midwives were wonderful even in my extremely impatient emotional time...they were of great help... DS was in the Special Care Nursery for a day and even then they still checked up on me made sure I was alright. And I did not get discharged until they saw that I could bathe and breastfeed DS properly. I mean they actually watched me do it by myself.

My sister had both her children there and they were wonderful. Even 5 years apart, the same staff were there and some even remembered my sister and her first DD. Not many places give you that kind of service.

I had a VERY bad experience at Biralee, the middies are great, esp Lori and Gretchen, but i unfortunatly lost my baby girl about 10 months ago there due to very stupid mistake made by a doctor.
I know babies die at all hospitals but i can't sit here and hear people going there and not say anything.

Sorry to hear about your loss Gemma.
I had both my boys at Birralee and was lucky enough to be in the KYM program. I had a wonderful experience both times, both natural births with limited pain relief. The midwives were Wonderful, as were the doctors. I highly recommend Birralee to anyone. especially the KYM (Know your midwife) program.
I also used the lactation consultant after birth to assist me with breastfeeding attachment problems, and that was fantastic and Physio at box hill during my pregnancy to help with SPD, and they were awesome too!

I have stayed with boxhill and am on the KYM program.
I have had no problems so far and love the midwife I have been assigned to.
My support friend has had 2 bubs there and had my midwife there for the second. She has been great with everything so far.

Hi,
I was about to post a question about Birralee and found this old thread so thought I would pick it up again.
I'm booked in at the RWH but am not happy with it so have am thinking about transferring to Birralee. In fact a number of midwives at the RWH have suggested I do so as I'm looking to have a natural birth with the least amount of intervention as possible during labour, and apparently the RWH are quite medical.
Most of the reports are positive which gives me hope. However, I'm really keen to get on the Know Your Midwife program but have been told it's fully booked for October, which is when bub is due. I wondered if anyone's ever managed to get on this program when they've previously been told they can't?
Thanks!

My sister actually does some of the bookings for patients at Birralee. It is POSSIBLE to get into it, but very unlikely. Unfortunately someone would have to move out of the program (for one reason or another) to get a spot, and they usually do have a long waiting list for it. I actually have 2 close friends doing the KYM program at box hill also due in October!
It is a wonderful hospital IMO, I have given birth there 2 times so far, and am doing KYM again for my this one. Unfortunately the program does fill up really fast. All you can do is ring and ask to be put on the waiting list for it. Never know your luck!
Goodluck!

Thanks for getting back to me. October is obviously a busy month because RWH was fully booked on their Cosmos (KYM) program too for October. All those post New Year babies!
I spoke with someone in the week at Birralee and they were really lovely, and from the postings on here it appears the level of care is good so fingers crossed.
Cheers!

absolutely HATED every second I was there - actually HATE isn't a strong enough word to describe it... massive thumbs down from me
I had Ry there this year and they were shockers. Infact the only people I found to have their wits about them were the anaesthetist and his 2IC.
I self discharged on te 3rd day. I couldn't handle it anymore, plus parking was terrible and a hassle for hubby.
Oh and you need to supply EVERYTHING - they don't even give you cloth nappies which I thought was odd. I also didn't like the plastic ware for meals, very cheap and wasteful.
Sorry if it comes across harsh - I hope that you have a pleasant experience.
good luck!
Casey
