Ashort while ago while visiting the pead he mentioned that DD2 was very small for her age, she looks not even 11 months old. So he ordered some bloods and today got the results.
My not even 17 month old has very low iron levels. The pead is away on holidays so the receptionist told me and he left a note to let me know when I called up for them. Now he is on holidays until mid November so can't talk to him about it until then :(
What can I do in the meantime?
A friend who was recently in this situation suggested to try some ferrow liquid I think it is, has anyone else used this?
I have no idea what to do
ferrow-liquid
My ds was iron deficient and anaemic at 14 months and went on 5ml ferro-liquid/day for nearly 6 months. He wasn't anaemic after about 6 weeks. I'd suggest talking to the chemist and your GP about it. Your GP could give you an idea of how bad it is and if it needs treating now or if it can wait a month. As my ds was anaemic he needed treatment straight away.
According to his paed it's actually really common but rarely tested for.

Thanks so much mim.
Would the gp need to redo the bloods or can he just get a copy sent over from the pead?

You can get Incremin from the chemist, it's an iron supplement for kids. Also, Weet Bix contains 25% of the RDI in case anyone did not know that, and a glass of Ovaltine gives 27% RDI of iron :) Spinach is also very high in iron, we use it almost every second night in this house.

Incremin ? Do you need a script? Would love to try something to see if it helps her to put a bit more weight on. She eats weet-bix almost every morning. She loves chocolate milk so will try the Ovaltine to. As with spinach do you know a good way to make a meal with it that kids will eat?

Nope, it's with the vitamins on the shelf. The home brand "weet bix" don't have the iron in them, only the sanitarium ones.
ETA: Not sure about spinach, DD eats it uncooked on sandwiches, cooked on its own, or cooked in a stew, spinach is her favourite vegetable. If you have puff pastry you can try making those spinach and cheese puffs and see how they go. Good luck with it!

If you know where she had the tests done the GP can ring up and get the results if the paed didn't already send a copy to the GP.
My ds wasn't underweight, but I was low in iron and he had very little dietary iron from his solid food and breast milk (not formula which has extra iron) until 12 months.
I really need to get his levels checked again - he's overdue for blood tests.
