Hi,
I have just joined the bub hub. I am due on August 29th although the last scan i had showed the baby was 1 wk bigger than the dates !!!
I have been getting loads of Braxton Hicks contractions through the day and night.
This is my third baby but it's been 11 yrs since the last one and it's a scary experience.

Hiya Mums and Bubs :smiliedance:

COOOEEEE........... anyone there?

Well thought I'd do my first "official" Mums n' Bubs post :D

Had a visit today from the Maternal and Child Health Nurse and Indigo-Rose is going really well, she's put on 130grams since discharge on Monday! Very happy mummy here :D

Well I have finally finished writing my birth story (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=34582) its very long winded! I had to rely so much on the notes written by Tracie (my doula) so much of the labour is a blur to me ..
My3sons - Whata pretty little girl you have! I love the photo!!

I took Elise to see the nurse on thursday to get weighed etc - all is good!!
I was brave enough to stand on the scales again today and I have lost 1/2 of the pregnancy weight so far - so hopefully the rest will go away too.. at some point. I am not too worried about it at the moment though .. plenty of time for that!

Littlepickle - Thanks :D

Elise is so gorgeous! She has the best head of hair! My little Indigo-Rose is the first of my bubs to be born with hair, the boys were all pretty much blonde baldies so it's a lovely change and she is a girl so of course has to be different :p

I LOVED your birth story! I can't believe how similar our labours were. I went in and had my waters broken, drip, epi, bubs was OP posterior, vac ext etc. etc. will get around to writing my birth story - one day....lol.

I also jumped on the scales today and I'm happy to say that I've lost 10kgs of my 18kgs pregnancy weight. I just hope the last 8kgs dosen't stick  Good job losing half of yours too!

My3sons - wow, I didnt realise how alike our labours were, and on top of that, we put on a similar amount of weight and have also lost a similar amount of weight too! How cool! I have been reading in so many places that breast feeding can help to shift the extra kilos .. unfortunately, I have also read that while breastfeeding, our bodies try to hang on to the extra fat stores incase of a famine or something... I am so hoping thats not the case as I am planning o breastfeed for a long time yet!
its cool having a bub with hair eh! Everyone keeps commenting on the amount of hair elise has on her head - it seems to be growing too! At this rate it will be in pigtails by the time she is 3 months old!!! I think little girl bubs look really cute with hair though - at least it means we havent got to put those elastic band thingies on them to make them look less bald:D
Hows everything going for you anyway? I am starting to feel as though I am getting the hang of it all a bit more now, I am not so tired! It must be a lot more work having 3 sons as well - I am exhausted a lot of the time with just the one!! Having said that, I am already thinking of when I will have bub number 2, I dont want to leave it too long, but on the other hand want to enjoy a lot more time with dd before having any more..!
Looking forward to hearing your birth story!

I wonder where all the other August mums are??
hmmmm... just realised that I am not officially an August mum as DD was born on July 30th! I still feel like an August mum though I spent enough time in the August thread, anyways, DD's EDD was August - so thats got to count for something!

true .. I think we will have a few more August bubs in the next few days .. Of course beany has just had her baby boy, and I dont think Adele will be very far being for that matter ... I guess a lot of people are still recovering from their births and spending time getting to know their gorgeous bubs ... either that or disappearing rapidly under a pile of nappies. Speaking of which, I have had what can best be described as a mini breakthrough today ... bub slept in her own room for the first time last night and only woke up once at 3.30 am for a feed and then slept until 6.30 am :smiliedance:
I had been co sleeping with her for the last few weeks as she hates her bassinette. Unfortunately this meant that DH had to sleep in the spare room as he is scared of being in the same bed as bub incase he rolls over and squashes her.. anyway, I am so proud of her sleeping through like that, and whats better is that she seemed to sleep a lot better in her own room!!
Not only that, but she has been asleep since 7pm - in her own room!!! I am going to wake her up at 10.30 for a feed and see how she goes with sleeping in her own room again tonight ... I have tp say, I was missing having her in my bed last night and hardly slept as I was too busy listening out for the baby monitor.
So thats my news, all is going well! I am off to see United 93 at the babes in arms movie session tomorrow.

Hi there August mummies, wow you guys can chat !!!!!.

littlepickle: what a great birth story, loved it. also you lucky girl, that is a great strech of night sleep.

my3sons- don't you just love teh hair, although Elena has started to lose her slowly already:(

Lou70- Hi there  hope your bub comes soon

I am now 5 kilos lighter than what I strted with, before I got pregnant,
Elena, is finaly aproching teh 3 kilo mark (after 3 weeks:eek:), and her feedig is driving me nutts, I can not keep her awake at my breast, so have been expressing exclusively for eth past two weeks, but with my supply going down, it is getting harder, been prescribed with Maxolon, so for now,I am barely making the ends meet.
btw, has any one been told not to eat certain foods, cause it migth upset the baby, eg onion.... I think I am eating the wrong foods, giving bub tummy ache.

got to go feeding time
see ya

Hi Guys! I have finally got a moment to sit down and join you! Jasper is sleeping - bless his cotton socks - and Scarlett is out socialising with her Grandie (my mum),....they go to playgroup together on Wed,....... Woo Hoo!!!!

Are you all having a ball? I must say that it is a little harder with 2,..but Squidg just loves her 'bay-bee',.....so all is good here,......

This may sound really tragic,...but I think I will have to have another baby,...just so that I can see my divine Obbie again!!! hehehehe!!!!! The 6 week check already seems too far away! Ha!

Argh - Jasper awake again,.... feeding just seems to go on forever at the moment! Oh,..and I am lucky enough to be the proud owner of a lovely case of mastitis,.just to help things along,....ouch! It is really painful,...... it doesn't help that Jasper is drawing blood at every feed,.......poor mummy! My lactation consultant is Russell Crowe's private nanny at the moment, so trying to get hold of her can be a little tricky,...........!

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Ahhhhhh, so here we all are :detective:

Thought it was a bit quiet on the August thread!

Parisa - I am similiar to you, I too am 5 kilos lighter than when I fell pregnant, although it is 5 kilos that I could stand to lose. I'd like to lose another 5kgs but I can't stop eating at the moment :D

LP - yay on the sleeping!! What a clever girl you have.
Clio is waking at 11pm and then again at about 4am, and then sleeps until about 8am which is fine with me, although makes it a bit tricky getting the older children off to school - I am actually getting more sleep now than I was in those last few weeks of pregnancy oddly enough.

I am loving every minute this time around and as she is probably my last bub, I am looking at milestones with different eyes. I am in no hurry for her to grow up at all.

Waves to amandaw, my3sons and Jane, (hope that mastitis settles down for you, I had that with my first bub. Not nice at all).

littlepickle You lucky girl, getting all that sleep! How did little Miss Elise sleep last night? I hope she did a repeat performance for you :fingerscrossed:

paris 5 kg lighter???????? OMG - I WISH :p
Indi has also started to lose a little of her hair on the sides unfortunately but I do think she'll end up a blondy like her brothers because she has such fair eyebrows and eyelashes and very blue eyes, but that may change yet (mine are brown but all the boys have blue).
A few of the foods you should avoid are onions, garlic, peas, cabbage, chocolate in abundance, spicy foods....... I'm sure there'll be more to come.
Btw - My bubs falls asleep whilst feeding all the time too but once they get a little older, they'll handle it better. BF can be tricky business can't it? Goodluck!

Jane OWIE - your poor boobs! I hope you get the mastitis under control really soon and that your nipples toughen up *quick*! I can totally understand, I have one with a crack - eeeouch.

noosamum  Hope you're having a lovely day!

Better go, bubs yelling at me - again. I'm sure her dad's told her not to let me on bubhub!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, here you all are...

Today I have had a breakthrough also.

I have figured out how to hold Baden and type at the same time. He is asleep on my stomach, scrunched up how he likes it. Little trussed chook.

I am enjoying putting him in all his little outfits now. For the first week he lived in one piece suits until the belly button healed over. Now he wears his pumpkin patch tops and pants and looks so unbelievably cute. He has so many clothes, I have to keep going through them to make sure I haven't missed any of the newborn size ones. He is still in his 0000 and NB (Pumpkin Patch) ones for the moment, but probably not much longer.

He has a lovely belly button. A definite inny. Very cute.

He is now four kilos, growing at a great rate. He hasn't lost any of his hair yet, but everyone said it would fall out.

Edited to add: I am also a "July" August mummy but you guys are stuck with me now.

Edited to add: I am also a "July" August mummy but you guys are stuck with me now.

As if we'd let you go anywhere anyway!!! :D

Indi is also wearing her pumpkin patch and other outfits now too. I've got so many that I reserve the Bonds suits for bedtime. Her 0000 Bondies are now too small (in the legs) but she still fits into her NB and other 0000 of different brands. Like you, I keep going through all her clothes so I don't miss anything that fits this week! I've sorted through her drawers and put all the tiny stuff in the top drawer.

I think Indi would be around 4kg now too, she's due to be weighed next Thursday. It's so reassuring to see them putting on weight when you BF.

Does anyone miss being pregnant? I do,.... I feel so healthy when I am pregnant,...and miss the feeling of those little feet - even when they were jammed under my ribs! I am currently talking Mike into the idea of baby number 3! I think I may win the argument,..but it may take a while!

Yes, Bonds suits for bedtime here too. And I noticed last night that his knees are slightly bent in the 000 ones. They must make them smaller than other brands.

I am still mostly in my maternity clothes, mainly because I moved in here as a pregnant woman so I have no idea where all my other clothes are. I have dug out a few but most of them aren't suitable for breastfeeding anyway. Actually, alot of my maternity shirts are no use either, so the clothes choices are limited for me at the moment. I need to get some proper breastfeeding clothes. I don't know where to buy them, any ideas?

Hi Mummies

I know I am not officially allowed on this thread yet, but thought I would drop in a say hi  At least I now know that I will be a Mum by Saturday... Yehhh

You all sound great. I hope I do as well when our little (oops big one ) is born. I am started to worry that all my 0000 clothes are going to be redundant upon bubs arrival. Some of you may have read on the other thread that our bump is estimated at 4.2 kilos already and it is still in... aaaargh, so I have to have a c-section this Saturday. HAve got my head around it now, was really sad to start with but feel very well prepared now having seen the size. Apparently it's head is off the ricter scale.. Everyone is know blaming my Dh, he is 6ft 4inch and I am only 5 ft 4inch. Anyway I know that can mean nothing at all either, we just obviously grew a large one..

Anyway enough pre baby talk, off to the other thread I go. Just saying hi and can't wait to join you all

Bye for now

Shed, same here. Desperately in need of a new wardrobe. I'm still in my maternity clothes also but I'm sooo sick of them and ready for a big shop. I have no idea where to get nursing tops but wouldnt mind a couple myself. Roll on summer I say, much easier! I'm just wearing trendy singlets in a bigger size at the moment that I can just pull down one side with a zip up top over that.

ourbump - It dosent need to be offical - of course you're allowed on here now

I dont think your 0000 baby clothes will be a problem if they're not bonds. My bubs has 0000's that are still too big for her and I'm sure she'd be 4kg by now (she was putting it on really quickly the last couple of weeks). I guess it depends on the brand though.

You look so small in your avatar, it's hard to believe you're going to have a 4+kg bub! Look at parisakamali, she was measuring weeks in front and her bub was really tiny! So hard to tell!

Roll on Saturday :smiliedance: Best wishes :hugs:

Hi ladies!

Thought it was about time I joined you all in here.

Glad to hear you are all doing well - lots of happy healthy bubs growing nicely.

We're doing well too. I'm recovering really well from my c/section. It has seemed to get better much more quickly than the first one. Keeley is doing well. She's put on 230gms from her discharge weight and her head has grown 1.5cms.

She's sleeping well most of the time, feeding (bottle) regularly and generally doing all the right baby type things. Our only concern is that she may have slight constipation. We've been through that before with DS and it's not pleasant, so we're watching her fairly closely.

We go for our 6 week check up on Sept 14, when I get to see *my* yummy Ob ;)

Hi Mrs Potts! Glad to see that I am not the only one madly in love with their Obbie! Funny!

Re: Maternity tops,...they are bloody expensive for what they are,..so I just went to Cotton On and bought a bunch of soft T-shirts with buttons down the front,.......they are cheap, and look good, and you can just whip a boob out the top without any hassle! They also have great cargo/army style pants,....All cheap as chips - so good for an interim wardrobe!

Jasper is not sleeping at all!!!!! He woke up yesterday afternoon at 15:00 and was still awake at 22:00 last night! All he wants to do is eat and eat and eat,.......I can't keep up,...... Does anyone else have the same problem?

I think Baden has been having a growth spurt over the last couple of days. He has been a bit whingey and hungry all the time.

I have found it hard to settle him because he doesn't want to lay down but when I pick him up its almost like he can smell the milk and thinks "oh yes, actually I am a bit peckish".

When DP gets home he walks around the house with him for two minutes and Baden drops off to sleep immediately. Makes it hard for me when I say "he won't settle". !!!

Yesterday I went and got some photos printed and there is a photo of him on the scales when he is a few minutes old, and another one taken the other night of him just in his nappy, lying on my legs. What a FAT little buddha!! He has packed on the beef!! We couldn't believe it.

Thanks for the tip about Cotton On, Jane.

I am off to get my tax done today. I was paying extra while I was working, in anticipation of this day, so I better get heaps back!!

I can remember reading somewhere on here about others buying boob tubes to wear under everything else they own...that way top can go up, boob tube can go down, and you don't have to expose yourself to the world....this may at least give you a few more options than just the breast feeding tops

my3sons
25-08-2006, 11:11
I read that too - I think it was when I was lurking in the July thread :o It's a great idea, if I remember correctly (I think it was seekrit) got the boob tubes from Supre? Might have to pay them a visit - could even make the belly look a bit smaller :D

Thanks!!!

Shed - it's the six week growth spurt that sticks in my mind with my kids. They all seemed to get cranky, wouldn't settle and feed, feed, feed. I remember with my first I thought my milk was drying up and put DS1 on the bottle because no one told me about the "spurt" they have then.

Indi had a pic taken on the scales too at a few minutes old. She looked so much chubbier in that pic than ones taken a week later, I think she was full of fluid too  Looking at photos now though, she has little rolls of fat on her arms and legs - so cute and cuddly!

Good luck with your tax! Hope you get HEAPS back :D

Mrs Potts - Good luck with bubs' constipation.

(phew battery just went flat on my laptop - thank God I didn't lose the post!)

Jane - :fingerscrossed: Jasper gets some sleep for you today!

Better go and do some work while Indi is asleep.

Just had to share that it appears that DD may not be constipated at all. :smiliedance: She had a suitably soft, squishy nappy at some ridiculous hour last night. Maybe she's still just getting used the whole digestion business.

She has, however, been pretty unsettled for the last day and a half or so.... I know we'll get through it though!

Thanks for the Cotton On tip too - will have to go and have a look!

oh my gawd, I was just feeding bubby and he pulled away and the milk squirted out like a fountain and got him all over the head. It wouldn't stop!!   I've never seen anything like it!!

We were out and about today, got my tax done (got heaps back, very happy) and went visiting, popped into the chiro and the little bloke was an angel all day. I had him in the Baby Bjorn carrier. On the drive home he started screaming, like really gut-wrenching cries. I had to pull over and feed him on the side of the road. We were just up the road from home but I can't stand to hear him cry. I have never heard him so upset and it started so suddenly, no whingeing or snuffling, just straight into it.

Mrs Potts
25-08-2006, 20:50
Shed, that Zero-to-blood-curdling-scream is exactly what DD is like too. There's little or no warning at all.

Had to smile at you squirting poor Baden all over the head though!

Lol Shed - What a crack up! Poor Baden (although he probably didn't mind getting covered in the one food he know and loves!!!).

What did you think of your Baby Bjorn? I haven't tried mine yet but flying in six weeks with bubs and Mr.6 so thought I'd use that - guess I'll have to give it a go soon.

Mrs Potts - glad to hear that bubs isn't constipated :D

Okay you're all going to think I'm mad but ........ I "think" Indigo-Rose just smiled at me  - now I can't remember with the boys how old they were with their first smiles but thought it was a bit soon. She was wide awake and alert not windy at all.......

Hubby thinks I made it up so I can say that she smiled at me first  Silly man :p

Mrs Potts
26-08-2006, 13:10
Smiles don't usually come til around 6 weeks from memory. We do get little "smiles" from DD though, but I'm sure it's just wind. And it's usually as she's dropping off to sleep.

my3sons
27-08-2006, 09:51

Here you all are! I thought it was a little too quiet in the Homely thread!!!!:shame:

Well, glad I found you in any case. Spent half an hour catching up on all your entertaining posts!

my3sons, its a smile. Accept and appreciate it for what it is. My lil Eamonn has been smiling since day dot. I'm sure they're not intentional but they are most certainly expressive and beautiful. And not wind-related.

Oh and did you say you were travelling soon? God you're brave. Where are you off to? I'm really keen to travel too but I've decided to put that off for another year and buy a new bedroom instead. I've been wanting a four-poster bed for years and have decided to treat myself to it before the year is out. Anyone know of any good stockists?

Shed, love the new pic of Baden. He's getting so big! Had to laugh at squirting him in the head. I remember doing that with Thomas although I was a little less kind and shot him in the eye instead!

Mrs Potts- glad your bubba is constipation-free. Hope she settles down for you soon though...its probably an early growth spurt.

On the subject of breatfeeding-friendly attire, I found Sussan to have many button-down loose tops that are ideal for b/f. Even some of the wrap-around dresses are easy-access although I can't see myself wearing anything figure-defining any time soon. I still haven't dared get on the scales yet. I don't wanna be disappointed so I'm giving myself another week before taking that brave step. I have however taken to wrapping my belly (its a tradition we have in our culture), and it seems to be working (my belly is almost normal looking at one-week post-pregnancy).

Now a quick update on things here. Bub is marvellous and I am falling more deeply in love with him everyday. We are bonding really nicely and he settles to my voice almost instantaneously all the time, so I'm chuffed. He still prefers to sleep in my arms though so we need to work on that. We have our first clinic appointment on Thursday so I'll know what progress he's made then, but I can already see that he's gaining weight.

He's not been out of the house yet, so I'm thinking I might brave it and go for a walk today.

Oh and I think wattle, mama anne and miss mack might all be in labour. Its like a ghost town in the homely thread so fingers crossed they're all off having babies and will be joining us real soon!

hi raffee

i've just been 2 the homely thread, yes very quiet there indeedy. so excited 2 hear ourbumps news!

re travelling - we're just off to port macquarie 4 a little break in about 6 weeks - cannot wait. i just got my baby bjorn carrier out of the box 2 see how hard to set up, i got the idea of it after fiddling around for about 30 mins.....

do you think they'll make me take bubs out of it at the aiport 2 go thru the metal detector? could be a little fiddly with bubs, mr 6, nappy bags etc... oh well i'll manage - i hope  better start practising now cos hubby wont b with me.

i wish i hadn't got on the scales just yet because 1st 10kg just fell off - the rest isn't going anywhere in a hurry unfortunately.

thanks 4 the sussans tops tip.

i saw a beautiful 4 poster bedroom suite in 40 winks (vic) about 6 months ago - like you I've wanted one for years but we purchased a new suite when DS2 was born (YES it's classed as old now) but hubby loves it still and won't let me replace it  Although with Mr 6 still climbing into bed with us and once Indi is wanting to too, we may need a King size VERY soon!

Glad to hear that everything is going really well with bubs for you. Have fun on your very first outing. I was too scared to go for ages until hubby insisted we go out for the first time - since then it's been a breeze - phew.

Better go just put bubs in her rocker but she's insisting I pick her back up again - darn those hiccups, she really dosen't like them at all.

Hi girls, just breezing in and out very quickly, I have mastitis, a very unsettled bub, too many visitors and a sick Miss 6 so I'm in need of a good lie down but wanted to welcome the new bubs :yelclap: A big welcome to Oliver and Stephanie!!!

We went to the beach this morning for the first time since I had the baby, it's a Sunday morning tradition for us and I was trying to keep everything normal for the older chn, and so Miss C had her first taste of sand - blerk. Silly me wore a bikini top (as I always have) and it wasn't until we were at the beach and I saw all the gorgeous women with their flat tummies and pert boobs that I was sorry I had and had to run back to the car for a long shirt to cover all the wobbly bits :o

Anyway, have a good afternoon all! Hugs,

So this is where you're all hiding!

Not that I have much time to spend here anymore (can't think why THAT would be the case ... ) but it's a nice hidey-hole for when the munchkin is asleep.

Most of my head is full of woes at the moment and while I am loathe to just share those in my first post here, I need all the venting and advice I can get.

Sore nipples! Owie! Help!.

I know he's attaching okay, I've been using Lasinoh, I've been applying hot salty water afterwards and, I confess, I have given in and am giving him the bottle every other feed when my nipples just can't take anymore. I've been having to psyche myself up for every feed and have to take pain killers in preparation. Not good, not happy.

*sigh*

Other than that, the sleep deprivation, the hormonal upheaval and the general feeling of inadequacy, things are great! :p Asher is changing every day - looking different all the time. He smiles too, my3sons! Usually as he's about to drop off to sleep. No one believes me when I tell them though - they always say it's just wind. I'm learning the art of motherly compromise: fart or smile? How about just a noisy smile?

So, when do I feel human again? :D

shed
27-08-2006, 21:20
Six weeks till the smile?? oh (deflated). I thought it was FOUR weeks. I have been staring at him for the last couple of days, looking right at his face and smiling a goofy smile thinking he would smile back any minute coz he's four weeks old tomorrow.

I will have to be contented with the little windy ones a bit longer. They are SO cute.

He has put on so much weight, the big boofa. We compared two photos of him, one when he was five minutes old and one just in his nappy the other day. Talk about milk gut!!

He seems to be over the little growth spurt and things are back to normal i.e. lots of warning when he's hungry and feeding at regular times again. thank goodness, now to wait till the next one.

Loooove the Baby Bjorn. Takes a while to get the hang of it though, for sure. Sit down to do it at the start, its a bit fiddly. I noticed that we got ALOT of attention, little fond smiles and lots of questions and comments. I think its because the little legs and arms sticking out are irresistible. I saw our reflection and even I smiled. Its pretty cute looking. Very handy too, once you can bring yourself to take your hands away.

Oh, get this...MY MOTHER... well you guys have heard a bit about what a freak she is about different things like Baden resembling an eskimo etc. Well I just got an email from her regarding my trip to NZ in a couple of weeks and she had written to my brother and then forwarded it to me and she goes "Shed is coming over so we can meet Brandon".

Brandon??

Sigh...I have no comment. I just have a sigh. She's not the full quid that one. I understand that he's new and his name isn't all that common, but COME ON, she only has one other grandkid and she's been waiting for them forever, so she could at least...oh never mind, sigh.

Regarding post-baby weight...I don't own scales and have no idea what's happening. I am still taking advantage of the "just had a baby" honeymoon period that I presumed I got LOL. I didn't get stretchmarks but I have a little bit of a linea nigra which I think is cool. I have no idea when that will fade, I don't mind if it never does. Its quirky and my tummy is still tanned from my sunbaking project.

Beany, sorry to hear about your nipple situation. I would just suggest Lansinoh or Marcalan and you're already doing that. Or there's those nipple shield things. Make sure you get the "let down" before feeding too, so bubby doesn't have to suck for dear life to get anything. That's all I have to offer.

And this :hugs:

Oh Shed - LOL at your mother, for gawds sake.

If it makes you feel any better my MIL was here on the weekend and kept calling Clio...Ella (the name of her other newish grand-daughter), I kept shooting meaningful looks at other half but he was oblivious to it and didn't say anything, but then she often calls HIM the name of his brother so who am I to care I guess.

Beany - I posted on the other thread...it will get better I PROMISE!! These early weeks are the hardest, so be easy on yourself, nobody is expected to be super mum. Is there a lactation consultant in your area? They are great...really, so worth a try??? :hugs: in the meantime.

My3sons - I think Clio smiles as well - it's a really intense look to start with and then the smile comes - usually when I or OH are talking absolute nonsense to her, so go with it, it's a smile!! :)

The absolute cutest, I'd say - but apparently I'm biased :p

He had a lot to smile about - clean bum and booby juice, the stuff dreams are made of! Unfortunately, mum's still paying the price for the juicing ... I can't even bear to get dressed.

In other news, I did a poo yesterday ...

OMG you guys are cracking me up today. DH keeps giving me strange looks LOL

I checked DS's baby book yesterday and his first smile was 4 weeks, first laugh at 6 weeks - so I'll let you guys have those smiles ;):D No real smiles here yet, but it'll be 4 weeks on Thursday so I'm watching!

Beany - hope the b/feeding gets easier for you. Neither of my babies could do it. I have so much admiration for ladies who have the strength to persevere with it. :fingerscrossed: the nipple shields give you some relief.

My little angel has already figured out that if she cries hard enough when she's in bed we'll pick her up. Ratbag. We've got her sussed though - that business stops now. Aren't I a meanie? LOL

Hope everyone else is enjoying their new bundles.

Okay, so the goofy smiles are back on the menu since its supposed to be four weeks after all. Goofy smiles from me I mean, Baden just stares at me. He looks happy enough though, he makes happy little gurgling noises.

He has grown in length. I am sure of this because I went to put him in the capsule and bopped his head on the car roof. So that took a while for the tears to stop...mine I mean, he didn't even flinch. I couldn't believe I had done that to my beautiful little bubby. Donk!!

I went to visit a friend today but to be honest it wasn't a great success. I haven't seen her for a while and she rang and asked us to visit. I realised when I was on the way there that she didn't even offer to come and visit us. So I got there and she didn't take much interest in bubby at all. I didn't stay long, her furniture is uncomfortable and there was cat fur everywhere. I think she is going to be one of those friends who fall by the wayside and to be honest I don't really care. I haven't seen her for ages anyway.

I haven't had any trouble with breastfeeding at all. I don't know what I have done differently to anyone else who is having dramas. Maybe I just have rubbery old nipples.

I am taking bubby to get Pixi Fotos tomorrow. I have heard differing opinions on them so we'll see what happens.

Mrs potts, I hear you with teh hugging thing, I can't put mine down, unless she is full on sleep.
shed have fun at your photo session

On a positive note, I have finally manged to brestfeed DD, it too me forever and she kept falling fast sleep, then wake up again half an hour later for more, so it feels like she's beenhanging off my breast all day, she only had one expresed bottle today, I am so proud of her,she is learning my bub is yummier than her fingers :smiliedance:
yep Elena smiles too (in her sleep) I even have a photo of it, and she had finally out grown her 00000 clothing, she was the only term baby I had seen, that would swim in premies cloths, but no more:thumbsup:

Hiya ladies

Just a whinge here. I'm feeling quite down today. Woke up at night in a flood of blood (sorry tmi). I'd not stopped bleeding since the birth 9 days ago but this was different. It was gushing out and went right through my pjs. I got up and went to the toilet but it kept on pouring out so I went back to using the maternity pads. Then this morning, I passed was were like large blood clots so I'm a little worried. The weird thing is there is no pain at all, only slight discomfort. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it might have something to do with the fact that I've thrown myself right into the whole housework/shopping/heavy lifting thing. I went to woolworths yesterday to do the grocery shopping after havng spent the entire day cleaning, washing, mopping and lifting so maybe I overdid it and now I'm paying the price.

Think I might go try to grab a nap while my babies sleep.

Hi Mummies!!! Hope you are all having a nice day,....and had a little bit of sleep last night,....hmmmmm,......

Scarlett has just worked out (about 20mins ago) how to get out of her sleeping bag, nappy, and her cot! I was feeding Jasper and she was supposed to be down for a morning nap when she appears at the door of the lounge room, buck naked! 'Hi there' she exclaimed! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

I did something last night that I need to get your opinions on,...cause I am feeling pretty average about it,. Jasper wants to feed all day,...and by 21:00 last night he was getting really cranky as I guess I hadn't the chance to replenish my supply, and he wasnt getting much milk,....so I sent Mike out for Formula and I topped him up with 60ml of formula,...... he passed out in a blissed out, milk drunk state and slept for 5.5 hours,........ I feel terrible that he was hungry,....and even worse that I fed him formula,.......I breast fed Scarlett for nearly a year,...but Jasper is a different story,..he is constantly hungry,......and I am getting worried that I don;t have the supply to satisfy him,.. what are your opinions on Formula? and are any of your babies seemingly hungry after hours of feeding?

Hi Mum's and Bub's

Can't stay long, just popped in for a big cry -

My poor little baby has a COLD - and worse still I gave it to her and feel ever so guilty, she's only 3 1/2 weeks old! :crying: I took her to the doctor today to get her checked over and all's good but it's so scary watching her trying to breath through her nose, especially while feeding!

I must say the absolute BEST thing I have ever purchased for bubs is the "Fess Little Noses" - thank God for those saline drops, they really do work!

Okay better go, have had bubs up for two nights and hanging off me for two days (she breaths better when not laying down) - she's finally asleep so have a long list of "things to do"

Hope you're all well!

P.S.... Shed, thanks for the tip on putting bubs in the Baby Bjorn while sitting down - it has been a God send these last two days!

Hi August Mummys. Here you all are :yelclap:

Well little Steph is now 2 days and still sleepy, thank goodness. Ds had the horror day from hell yesterday and missed his day sleep because of all the relatives/new baby excitement etc etc. So by last night we were completely frazzled. Luckily the boys slept well, but dd decided to wake every hour with wind pain. Oooh poor little sausage.

I rang the most helpful woman in the world last night - my lactation consultant - because my nipples were starting to look a bit sorry. She gave me some great advice, to buy some 'Nipple Ease'. They are tiny little plastic cups, sort of like an ice hockey face guard that sit over your nipple and stops your bra or breastpad from rubbing. You cut a small hole in the breastpad and sit them in there. They're only $15 too!! They look ridiculous, but work great, and nobody sees them anyway. I went to the ABA this morning to buy them. (They did look rather surprised that I was out shopping after only having a baby 48 hours ago!!) And they're just new on the market, so don't know where else you can buy them. The ABA website might have more info.

Ok, dh has gone to the supermarket, I'm going to catch a quick 40 winks while all is quiet here. Chat soon lovely August mums. :D

Evening all

Sorry I have been AWOL lately - I have been so busy with this and that, I just dont know where the time has gone.
Got Elise's passport done today:smiliedance: after a lot of trouble getting her to sit still and pose for a passport photograph! So we are off to Europe for holidays in October - looking forward to that.
Baby Bjorn - I love mine too! I use my little peanut shell microfibre sling around the house if I need to do things and Elise is being clingy, but I always use the babybjorn when I go out to the shops as it seems to offer more protection .. paranoid overprotective mum that I am!
All is going well here - bub is feeding really well and I still express a 4 oz bottle in the morning while I am feeding her off the other breast so that dh can give her her 10.30 feed. She then sleeps through til about 4am when I get up to feed her, then she sleeps again till about 6.30am when we all get up. The only other predictable part of the day is her 12 noon nap when she sleeps till 2/2.30 pm giving me a bit of time to get on with other stuff and have an hours snooze myself. So I ave to say - I am feeling pretty proud of her!
Jane: I have heard of a lot of eope suplementing their breastmilk with formula without any problems. In order to increase milk supply, I read that if you express out of one breast while feeding from the other for the morning feed, this will give you a whole extra feed in the sidelines and as this is the time when breasts are at their fullest, its bes not to let that go to waste. You can do this though at any time of the day and it will give you a secret stash so to speak!! It will also work to increase your supply. But I was told by the breastfeeding helpline that bubs go through a growth spurt at around 3 weeks of age and get very demanding for a while but will soon settle down! Hey well done to your dd houdini for escaping her sleeping bag - thats pretty impressive! She sounds like a real character!

Does anyone else have a really unladylike little girl? I first noticed it with ELise when she was 2 days old and she was laying on the bed with a stained look on her face. I was wondering what she was thinking when all of a sudden she lifted her leg and did the loudest fart ever!! She does it all the time, but its worse - now she kind of gets this look of strained concentration on her face, then her body kind of bunches up and she poo's but VERY loudly! Its embarassing because she tends to be even louder if I am out, and I find myself having to make a point to tell people that it wasnt me, but the baby making that ungodly noise! I am sure nobody believes me, I mean, how can something so beautifull make such a sound!
Sooo.. today she did it, and ohmygod, lucky I was at home, shemanaged to make a mess of herself right up as far as her nipples, I had to totally strip her off and put her in the bath!! The funny thing is that she seems to be soo pleased with herself and will lay there cooing while I wade in to try to clean up the mess!

Its just such a daunting feeling taking them both out of the house by myself have waited for DP to have a day off so we can go together!

I am supposed to take Baden to the community health clinic to get weighed or something, I can't quite remember what it was supposed to be for.

I really can't be bothered though. I measured his head today and its grown 2cm and I can tell he is thriving because he is a fat little buddha.

We went visiting today and he was an absolute angel, especially after yesterday when he was so unsettled. Today he was sooooo good.

Jane: nipple issues aside, I have found the same thing with Asher in the last couple of days - he's been on the boob almost all day today and hasn't been satisfied - and I know I'm producing enough milk due to the contents of his nappy

I gave him a bottle last night at about 1am and he finally calmed down enough to have a goodly chunk of sleep (and let the boobs recover a bit) before the onslaught today.

shed: I'm in Sydney! depending on when and where the meet up is, I'll try to make it - I don't drive but I live in the city so if it's convenient (and the boobs haven't fallen off) I'll bring Asher down until he starts bawling.

Okay, bedtime.

Night all!

Well, I just got back from our clinic appointment. im so thrilled to announce that my lil star has gained just over 400g in 12 days! i dont know if that's impressive or not but I'm very proud.:D My 19-month old is also thriving and weighing in at 14.5 kg!! Everything else looked good for both my babies so our next appointment is when bubs is 6 weeks old.

My bleeding has settled (thanks for the advice mrs potts)- turns out its quite normal as long as its not ongoing.

I had my first outing with my boys yesterday- spent the day shopping and bought a load of stuff- new shoes and a new blush for me, new towels for the bathroom, and lots of other unneccessary stuff!

Now Im off to have a coffee with DH. He's got a job interview next week- :fingerscrossed: it goes well for him...

I hope I have done that right.

Hey, have we heard from Adele?

I'm off to Pixifoto today to see what they can do. I would be quite happy staying at home today actually. I went out yesterday and I seem to prefer not to go out of the house two days in a row.

I still haven't got bubby's passport done and I am supposed to be taking him to NZ. Maybe I am psychologically trying to avoid going over there to see my mother. She drives me crazy and I am so feral about people offering unwanted advice and criticism these days. Its not just that I "can't" stand it, more than I simply "won't". So there's a guarantee of conflict.

My sister-in-law is going over there, (my brothers new wife). I missed their wedding due to being pregnant, but apparently she got very upset when my sister was fighting with my mother at the wedding. I hope she doesn't think it will be any different with me. My mother picks on both of us equally (no favouritism there, LOL). Apparently the sister-in-law blamed my sister for it because she thinks my mother is wonderful (she'll learn).

Hi August Mums. Oh I wish I could come to the Sydney meet, never mind. The midwives just came to do their second follow up visit and everything was fine. Dd has put on lots of weight - actually they're going to sign her up for Weight Watchers if she doesn't slow down soon!!

My milk came in today - woooooeeeey, dh will get a shock when he gets home!! Also my tummy is going down which is nice. It's lovely to be able to pick things up off the floor without nearly toppling over.

How long did you find your bubs were 'sleepy' for? Dd has been very quiet and good, especially during the day). I'm wondering if she's going to 'wake up' soon, or if she's just a cruisey type. I think ds was a wriggler/squirmer/whinger from day one but can't remember very well.

We did the first bath at home last night and she loved it. I just realised I forgot to take a photo. Bummer. Oh well, next time. Ds was trying to help....aagh, I have to keep reminding myself "He is teaching me how to be patient" and take a deep breath, but he's been a real handful lately.

Haven't seen a post from adele for ages. Anyone know anything?

Hello to all you new mummies

Well don't have the time like I used to to be able to jump on here and type type type....have read all the post so far and you all look like you are enjoying being new mums.....gee it is such hard work

My litttle princess is doing very well...she is a content little bub most of the time apart from when she is hungry or that lovely time in the afternoon around 6ish when she just wants to have a little whinge.

I have been inundated with visitors and PRESENTS which is really good cause I don't need to buy Chloe any clothes until she starts to fit into size 1. The visitors mean well but between them and a proud daddy they have spoilt her rotten and she does not like to be put down most of the time...luckily at night she feeds and settles right down without needing to be held.

Apart from a bout of MASTITIS  I have been well...enjoying being a mum so much and falling in love with her more and more each day. We have not gotten into a proper routine as yet and I am still sort of damand feeding but most of the time I can guess when she is due.

She is 4 weeks this coming Sunday...we took her to the clinic last Thursday (or whenever 10 days had passed since we got out of hospital) and she had put on 500g and they were very happy with how she has been going....she is changing already and putting on weight in her face and upper legs.

Anyway better be off and try and get in a little nap while she is fast asleep....

Oh re- MATERNITY TOPS my mum got me this really great breasfeeding singlet from Fresh Mums - I think the store is in Brissy but check out the website www.freshmums.com - I got the singlet one and it is really great (you don;t need to wear a bra with them) and they have buttons under your boob area so you don't have to pull the whole shirt up and show your belly...the singlet is really great as I wear it under normal clothes when I go out...so check it out

Talk to you all soon

Hey everyone,

Just sat down, read heaps of posts and now can't remember what I wanted to say. Gah! Newborn brain! Will try and remember a couple of things that stand out...

Someone said they'd given their tot a cold? Me too. Well, not me, but my daycare infested 2.5 year old. She's still going a couple days a week because she loves it so much (on the days she's home with me she asks to go. Nice, huh?!!!). Felt awfully guility, but with a 2.5 year old on the scene, sickness is going to happen, plain and simple.

Breastfeeding tops. I'm completely in love with Glamourmom extra support tops. I tried Fresh Mums, but am a 12DD normally and about a 14 god knows what gigantic cup size at the moment and found Fresh Mums weren't supportive enough for me. The Glamourmom extra support tops are amazing, though (there's also a normal support that I still found wasn't supportive enough). I'm wearing them day and night (that's how comfy they are). I think they cost about $70 at maternity stores, but I bought mine new on ebay for $50 each (cheaper because I bought four).

Wish I knew how much weight Teddy had gained, but I've been too slack to get him weighed. Mainly because I'm not worried. Very wet nappies and a constant feeder. I'm sure he's packed it on. We have a chemist at the end of our street that has a baby clinic every Thursday, so I really should go next week. I know -- at the end of our street -- I really am slack, aren't I?!

Shed, jus a little mention about th passports for bubs - dont worry if you havent got Baden's yet as they are really quick! I put my application in at the post office on Tuesday and got it an email on friday saying that it was complete and that I would get it in a few days (and that wasnt the express service either) So it takes less than a week! I found that the easiest way to get a good photo of DD was to put a white blanket down, then swaddled her so that she couldnt fling her arms up around her face, then just took a selection of photos and made them into passport photos n the digital machines in the kodak shop - turned out to be quite easy!

I have been giving dd a formula top-up at her 10.30/11pm feed as she sleeps much better if I do this. I didnt know which formula to get so I got karicare gold, she drinks it no problem, but I only do it at night or if she has totally exhausted the boob supply and I need a break!
I was in toys r us yeserday and bought some of the new ommee tippee breast to bottle bottles, dd loves them - they nahe really wide soft teats like nipples and apparently they flex like nipples so the mechanics arent quite so different which means less chance of nipple confusion! and they look cute too! but they are designed especially for people who breastfeed but want to give the occasional bottle - anyway - I am a fan - they are a hit here - mainly my me :-)

just a quick post, hope every one is well.

I am feeling so guilty, Elena has diarrhoea, and everyone ( mainly MIL) says it must be something that I have eaten, making me feel even worse, I took her to the doctors, but the only thing she told me to do was to feed her this serum to avoid dehydration, but now she is hungray all the time, cause the serum fills her up and leaves a little space for milk, don't know what else to do I am so desperate :banghead:

No, you're not slack...well okay YES you are, but SO AM I!!!

I feel exactly the same. Baden is a fatty boom-bah and I am not worried but I would like to know how much he weighs just out of curiosity. I would do that thing where people hop on the scales with the baby and then hop on without the baby and see what the difference is EXCEPT that I don't want to hop on the scales at the moment LOL!!

Parisa, you're not killing her!! I am curious to know how you can tell the difference between diarrhoea and what normally comes out. Is it watery? I am not a doctor but I would just say to drink heaps yourself and feed, feed, feed. Wouldn't you feed before she had the serum, your foremilk would stop her dehydrating surely? But I am not a doctor as I said but I do know that nothing compares to mother's milk when it comes to what ails babies.

LP - I thought it was quick when you said you had her passport already! I got his photos done at Rabbit photo - processed I mean, I took them at home. He looks pretty funny, it looks sort of like an adult doing a "this is my passport photo" pose. Its different than his usual expression. He must have known.

I went to a scrapbook class today and bubby stayed in his capsule. He was so good, such a little angel, fussed a few times but was happy enough with the dummy. My boobs were like rocks by the time the class had finished...I couldn't get out of there quick enough. We have never been that long between feeds during the day.

hey girls!!!

finally made my way back to bubhub after bringing my little girl home :smiliedance:

bella was born monday afternoon, they discharged me from the hospital on thursday lunchtime, and dh and i have been enjoying being at home with her ever since. i will get around to writing my birth story when i can get into the right headspace to remember details.

short version - induction sunday night with cervisomething (tampon type thing), waters broken monday morning at 8am, drip put in my hand to bring on and speed up contractions, gas to 6cm, epidural, an hour or so later bella's heartrate was falling way low after each contraction, they put a heartrate monitor on her scalp, took blood from the top of her head to measure her distress level, bloodtests had to be higher than 7.4 and they were 7.2, there was meuconium somewhere ... they gave me half an hour to get to 10cm or they were going to do an emergency c-section, i got to 10cm naturally (with some help from the ob) and she was born via forceps at 4:09pm. i had second degree tears and an episiotomy so i've got some fancy needlework happening

anyway since then we have been figuring out breastfeeding (my milk came in on wednesday morning - that was a shock!), settling, changing explosive poo nappies .... but i love her SO much and am enjoying every day getting to know her and love her more. will write personals tomorrow - has anyone heard from missiemack?

anyway off to feed the little one ....

Ohhh so this uis what it looks like in "mummy land"

Hi everyone!!

Well I hope mummy hood is treating you all well and HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the new daddy's!!

Well I was SO pleased when I read LP'S post about toping Ellise up with formula:yes: I have been doing this too!! Skyla has a bottle for her midnight feed now.

When she was first born I was feeding her from midnight to 4am in the morning  She would just suck and suck.....until I became so desperate one night I sent DP out to the local servo at midnight to buy formula:o She has her bottle and goes straight off to sleep.. My midis arnt fond of the idea- but hey its keeping her happy and DP and I sane so I think its ok.

She feeds all day and night so I highly doubt my milk will dry up....

Ok well I must run again.. the little miss will be wanting her brunch soon lol

Talk to you all soon!!

Hi ladies

Just a quick question...have not read all the posts...will come on again soon and catch up just in case I have missed anything important

When do you count the hours on feeding...is it when you take them off for the final time or from when they 1st start

the last couple of days Chloe has gone to feeding every 2 hours sometimes feels like less and I am worried that I am doing something wrong....she is also being really hard to settle down to sleep but think it could be a bit Daddy's fault cause he has been home on holidays and she basically sleeps on is chest while he watches telly....it is hard not to stress when you feel like you are doning something wrong:confused:

Mrs Potts

Tash, feeds are timed from when you start feeding, regardless of how long you feed for.

She has been crying so much today...we just gave her a nice bath and her bum is really red so maybe she is a little sore down there...so have put some cream on her

Once again THANKS

hey to all the mummies out there

dh, bella and i are doing alright today, we had a SHOCKER of a night last night including one feed that took an hour and a half  (she normally feeds for 30-40min) and then she woke 30 minutes later ..... anyway between 12:30am and 7am i had about an hour and a half sleep ..... thank goodness for daytime catchups! anyway at 8am this morning we took her to mcdonalds and had father's day breakfast, then came home and i caught up on some sleep while dh was an angel and settled her after a feed. now i'm awake and he's tired ... but it's all good.

planning a nice bath for her after her next feed ... she loves her bath which is nice. have to have the energy for the whole process though or i'd be doing it every night

okay random topics ...
weighing bub - does bella need to be weighed before the early childhood nurse comes? she's not coming for 10 days and she's 6 days old .... ?
weight i havent gotten onto scales yet ... we don't have any at home and i didn't have a $2 coin when i walked past the scales at the chemist .... little bit scared to weigh myself but at the same time i am fitting one (the biggest ones) pair of pre-pregnancy jeans ..... so maybe i won't weigh myself and just focus on that!
sydney girls i'm in sydney too ....... but also not up to darling harbour .... bit scared of my first outing by myself without dh. but i'll come to the next one!
sore nipples/attaching i've been using nipple shields since day ... 2. they are the best. can't rate them enough. not even thinking about the potential bad things yet - just enjoying being able to feed without bella becoming hysterical

anyway off to do the pre-feed organisation - water, book/mag, shield, cloth nappy for mopups ...

Morning everyone. Just finished dd's feed and a nice big piece of cheesecake for me and thought I'd say hi.

Apart from a cracked nipple (ouch) everything is going well. She's a real night owl though, so I'm up all day with ds and up all night with dd. phew.

mama anne - don't worry about the weighing thing, she will be fine to wait until the nurse comes. Congrats on fitting into your jeans, well done. (The rate I'm scoffing cheesecake, I won't be wearing my jeans for a looooooong time).

Thanks for nipple shield advice, sounds like a good backup plan.

Dh is back to work this week, I really don't know how I'm going to manage with ds and his tantrums and dd. I'd better strap myself in and get ready for the ride.

My baby is a nutcase.

He was getting his nappy changed after a major poo session. Just as the nappy was taken away and a new one put in place, he did another poo, much to his father's dismay - ha ha ha, think I, good thing it was his turn!

Anyway, as that second soiled nappy is taken away and various things wiped down, Asher thinks "whoopee doo, he's distracted now and hasn't taken precautions!"

Yep, you guessed it. Golden shower! It went in a magnificent arc! Silly boy, however, managed mostly to pee on his on head. He has been known as 'pee-pee face' for the entire day today. I rather like the nickname. It might stick until he's 18.

The nutcasey bit about the whole thing is that he was squawking at the indignity of having his nappy removed but as soon as his own pee hit him on the head, total silence! So there's a tip for you - when they don't stop crying, wring an old nappy over their heads!

hey Beany.... Jasper does exactly the same thing! all over the wall! Does your little man wee up the side of his nappy and all down the side of his clothes? Jasper does,...but I learnt a 'boy baby trick',...... just before you do up the last tab on his nappy, reach in and point his penis down, then quickly do p the tab,...stops them wee-ing out the top of their nappies!

Hey,....cause Jasper doesnt sleep much during the day, I went out on Sat and bought a 'hug-a-bub' sling,...and I LOVE IT!!! It is so comfortable to wear and you can have it on all day and it doesnt hurt your back,....and it supports his little head and neck so well,...makes my baby bjorn seem very rigid, uncomfortable and unsupportive,....

Hey Sydney girls......if you all feel up to it,.you are quite welcome to come over to my place for mornng tea one day,..... those with toddlers, we have an outdoor playgroup at the park in our street on Tues mornings, with a bunch of great activities,.... anyone want to meet up next Tues morning?

Yep, I will Jane. If I am still in the country that is. I am thinking about popping across the ditch to NZ for a couple of days to take bubby to meet the parents etc. But otherwise, yep for sure.

I'm getting a hugabub too. The Baby Bjorn hurts my back too much and I have heard great things about the hugabub. Where did you get yours from? It would be good to go to a shop and try one on first.

Hey Shed,..... the hug-a-bub is the best thing I have bought this time round,....I bought it from a chiropracter in Balmain,..and it comes with an instruction DVD which is handy,....... have a look on their website for stockists,.... www.hugabub.com

I hate the baby bjorn too, it hurts my back and doesnt seem to support Jaspers head and neck, he seems to slouch down in it,....I spend the whole time supportin him with one hand, sort of defeating the purpose of wearing it,.....the hug-a-bub is totally hands free! And looks so funky!

Lets see if we can get some others together for next Tues?

Beany
04-09-2006, 12:39
Jane: yes - Operation Willy-Point-Down has been in effect for a while now. Somehow he still manages to wee up his side, though. Maybe his is a sprinkler system rather than the traditional hose :D

I've been looking longingly at hugabubs too but am unwilling to buy them off the net - I want a play first. I have a baby bjorn (as yet unused) and my aunt-in-law sent an "Evenflo" carrier over from Canada (eh) (also as yet unused). Perhaps I ought to give them a go before getting yet another item to remain possibly unused ...

What age did you all start using the carriers? Pee-pee face is 2 weeks in about 12 hours' time - is that too young still?

And there is a shop about 5mins away from my place that stocks them,... they are much better than any other carrier I have used,...and I have a baby bjorn, a Theodora Bean leather carrier, a baby sling and the hug-a-bub,....! you can use it from birth,...and you can breastfeed in it! jeez they should pay me a commission!

Beany, come out to Jane's and try hers on then. Perfect!!

I put Baden in the Baby Bjorn at a couple of days old. He promptly spewed down my front. I tried him a couple of days later and he liked it. Its me that has a problem with it.

I have a sling too but he looks squished in it.

Baden is five weeks old in about two and a half hours time. This time five weeks ago I was about to be told I was fully dilated and could start pushing. Wow.

Well DS is 4 weeks old today (gosh that has gone quick)

I am very proud of myself as I have been able to exclusively breast feed him without any problems. I only fed DD for 5 weeks, I had severe nipple bamage (DD was bringing up blood with her milk) and I also had a massive bout of mastitis leading to surgery to remove a breast abcess. I was very depressed after I was unable to continue feeding DD and there was no guarantee that I would be able to feed this time around due to scarring from the surgery, so I am very pleased with my progress. It has not been easy because DS is a big boy and is very hungry, some days it feels like I feed him all day, but like they say demand = supply.

DH went back to work last week so I had both kids by myself...it was surprisingly better than I had imagined!! We went to playgroup, an outing to the play area at a local shopping centre and a friends DD 2nd birthday party and all went smoothly. DD could not be better and just loves her little brother to bits.

They just grow up too fast I think, at 2am in the morning when I am desperate for sleep I just think about the fact that in 1 year time DS will be a walking (or close too it), talking little person....such a short time. Also as this will proably be my last one I am trying to savour every little moment.

I decided that since it is a nightmare to take DD shopping, neverloan with a newborn, I would try doing my grocery shopping online...it was great, delivered straight into my kitchen, I would highly recomend it to all those busy mums out there!!

I have been enjoying reading everyones posts (even though I don't post much myself:cool: ) it is nice to know that there are other people out there that are going through exactly the same things as I am!!

Best go have a rest on the couch until DD wakes from her nap.

Keep up the good work... you are all great mummys:)

Jane: I live in the city and don't have a car (a car space in this building costs about as much as renting another apartment). Public transport willing, I can probably make it up to yours, though. Stanmore ... couple of stops up from Newtown, right?

shed: I get the feeling Asher will probably do exactly the same thing (the spewing down the top thing, that is). Either that or he'll wait until I have him all strapped and buckled and super-glued in and then let loose an explosive poo. Quite a contrary little sod, is my boy. Can't think WHERE he gets that from ...

lilbugalugs: congratulations on the booby work! I'm still fighting my way through it - every day I think I'm going to chuck in the towel and just go with the bottle but every day I end up gritting my teeth and giving him the boob anyway. He still gets a couple of bottle feeds a day to let the nipples recover a little. The frequency has diminished, though - about 2 bottles a day (one at night which seems to help him sleep better and longer).

I've booked in for a breastfeeding support class at the hospital on Thursday. We'll see how things go after that. The pain seemed to get better for a little bit there but now there's a new addition in the form of a burning pain after the feeds. The nipples aren't as thoroughly cracked as they were but the tips are still pretty sore and raw. Ah well. I guess that means the munchkin is getting lots of protein in his diet.

Shes been fine today though.. no temp or vomiting so :fingerscrossed: it was just an upset tummy....

ok well must go again.... have to try and eat dinner with a baby attached to my boob:rolleyes: Skyla feeds ALL the time.. Asher is a comfort sucker too and I refuse to comfort him on my cracked nipples so if he's not asleep after the feed slows to a half-hearted suck, onto the dummy he goes. I pull the dummy out once he's completely asleep, though.

shed- the difference between diarrhoea and what normally comes out was obvious, it was a whole lot more watery, and started to leak out of teh nappy.
tashmusa- you caount the feeding hours, from when they wake up till next time they wake up, eg if bub wakes up at 1 pm , gets changed and feed and goes back to sleep, then wakes up at say 4 pm, then it is 3 hourly feed. (I know it sounds strange, but That is how the midwifes counted Elena's feeding)
Lilbugalugs- well done on exclusively BF.
Beany- Oh, I hear you , those dummies are sanity savers
Adele- Oh I hope Skyla, gets better soon.
Cathy- Hope DS calms done, once you DH is back to work, hang in there dal :hugs:

DD's diarrhoea is much better now, I am feeding her breast milk exclusively. I have read and heard that if I introduce formula before 6 weeks, it un-does, all the good work the BF is doing in relation to how long it takes for the lining of their guts to strengthen, or something. so I am hanging out for DD to hit six weeks, then I will be suplmenting her with formula. till then I will just hang in there by a tread:banghead:, since my supply has gone down again, cause I have stopped taking the medication while DD was sick.

Yay. Yippee. Joy.

Nipple thrush.

When it rains, it bloody pours, don't it?:

The whole breastfeeding thing seemed to be getting better a few days ago. It still hurt when he first attached but the pain diminished and faded away as he fed and didn't really linger after the feeds. There seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel ... until Sunday, when the pain persisted during the feed and seemed to get worse after it. Lingering, burning, stinging pain that seemed to emanate from the nipples and radiate into the breast. Looked it up (how did we live before Google?!) and it sounded like thrush. Tried to look in Asher's mouth for the white spots but he refused to let us - mouth firmly clamped shut. Poked him a little to make him cry ... he just smiled. The little rotter.

Eventually did manage to have a look (mostly as he yawned) and yes, back there on his soft palate was a little white spot. Confirmed it with the doc. I gave him thrush :( Or he gave me thrush  Either way, we have thrush :gloomy:

So Canestan cream for me, drops for him, back to digging my nails in before, during and after feeds. My couch is beginning to look very textured.

By the way, anyone else feel like babies are a conspiracy by washing powder companies? Holy poo the number of washes we have to do these days ... !

If you want the name of a great lactation specialist, then let me know,....she can either talk to you over the phone, or can come over to your house,...well worth it!

We are in Marrickville now (just bought before Jasper arrived) and are very close to the station,..... so let me know if you are up for a visit,....

Beany don't worry, you're not alone. That's what caused my cracked nipple - intense pain with a massive crack which actually felt like someone poking a hot knife through my nipple into my breast tissue. I had no idea it was nipple thrush because I'd never had it with others.

The chemist put me onto Daktarin - they say not for babies under 6 months but that's because of the way it was administered, not the product itself. Instead of using it on bubs (with the gel on the spoon) I was just smearing it on my nipples after each feed. It's kind of soothing like Lansinoh and keeps the breast pads from sticking to the nipples too. By the way - DON'T use the Lansinoh with thrush, apparently it feeds the fungus because it's a nice warm, moist enviroment . (You've probably been told this already!).

Anyway it took a week to go away and breast feeding is now pain free after a month - phew! I was nearly to the point of giving up too, so happy I got through it :D

Also try to get bubs to latch onto as much areola as he can - helps the nipples heaps - Good Luck Beany

Thanks guys :) All the sympathy and unfortunate empathy is very appreciated. I'm sitting here psyching myself up for the next feed which will be any moment now ... pee-pee head (yes, he did it again  ) has been down since about 10:30.

Jane: Should be fine for a visit on Tuesday. Will let you know for sure either way by the weekend.

Anne: hope you have a good time with the rellies and all goes well with the health visit thingy. If it's the same thing that I had (at the early childhood centre thingy) then they will mostly be interested in the baby - weighing measuring and so forth. They will also get some family medical history down. She asked me how I was, recommended various things for recovering from stitches and was interested in feeding. Nothing physical for me, though - just questions.

My3sons: Daktarin. *writes it down* Thanks! Yeah, I gave up on the Lansinoh as soon as I suspected it was thrush. Actually, I called the ABA yesterday (before the thrush diagnosis) and the counsellor told me that lanolin treatments aren't the best thing to be using during the cracked nipple stage - keeps them tender longer because they stay moist. I could have kicked myself for not figuring that out by myself earlier.

By the way, I got my rambley birth story up last night. Be warned. Tis long. Tisn't necessarily justifiably long (no complications or anything interesting like that - thank goodness!) or even particularly interesting. Just wanted to get all the details down so that I wouldn't forget them. Anyway, for those that are interested, here it is! (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=38210)

Hi All

Well Oliver is now 1 week and 3 days old... I can't believe it, I still have to get my birth story up, it was such a nice experience I want people who have to have a c-section even when they thought it would never happen to them, that it too can still be a great birthing story.

Ollie is doing so well as are DH and I. We are still loving every minute of it. The days seem to go too quickly though with not much getting done, except sitting and staring at him.

Just a quick post to say I am still around. We are just about to go to put the baby forms in etc at centrelink and then visit a baby shop, do some food shopping and I also have a visit to the chiropractor. ( Breastfeeding back injuries!!)

I will go back and read everyone's post later, but hope all are doing well.

Jasper was gulping blood at every feed,.....i also had terrible engorgement complete with temperature and chills and mastitis

this is me right now ..... except not with jasper but with bella:rolleyes:

rang the aba and the chick was SO nice and helpful ... i have to be mega careful with making everything bacteria free so it's changing the nipple pads at each feed, soaking the nipple shield in milton antibacterial solution (instead of just washing in warm water and detergent after i feed and putting it in a clean container) ... also making sure i drain the affected breast well at feeds and between if i want to move the blockage ...

don't think its fullblown mastitis yet .... but if it gets worse overnight i have to see my gp in the morning

i thought i was going so well ...
though if something was to go wrong i'm glad its something wrong with me not with bella

OMG, you poor things who are having problems with breastfeeding. My eyes are still wide from reading about that breast abscess. Yowser! I can't even imagine how painful something like that would be, or having to feed through a bout of mastitis. I've been so lucky with both my babies. Both times it's been a breeze, without any kind of cracking, mastitis, anything. The only scary bit has been when the milk comes in and I've woken up to a chest double the size! Sending good nipple wishes...

Lucky you AlliJB, I'm glad not everyone has to go through nasty old nipple pain. ouch. I read somewhere that dark haired people have less difficulty with breastfeeding than fair mummies. I wonder if that's true.

An all time record low last night - 1.5 hours of sleep. Dd had awful wind pains :( and needed cuddles all night. I'm so zonked. It's pretty hard to sleep during the day with two littlies though, so it's a 'soldier on' day for me. Hope everyone else had MUCH more sleep than I did.

mama anne - if you think it might be mastitis, go to the Dr anyway.
I had mastitis last week and put off going to the Doc, thinking I could make it better myself by expressing etc.
Well, it didn't work and I ended up really sick with fevers, chills, 40 degree temp and on antibiotics with Doctor threatening me with a hospital stay and antibiotics via a drip if I didn't improve within 24 hrs. So go woman, GO!!

Jessi - welcome to you and congrats on your babe!

Will be back soon, Miss C needs a nappy change.

I wanted to ask too, those girls who are off on plane travel shortly (LP. Shed and my3sons I think??) - what are you planning to take (pram??, carseat ??etc) and do you know any tips for flying with babies?? I am off interstate shortly to an awards night (I won't win but it is an honour to be nominated :o ), just me and Clio and am trying to plan it as best as I can, it is all expenses paid too - the hire car place (Budget) has just told me that they only have carseats from 6 months on so looks like I will have to fly my own with me :(
The hotel is providing a cot though. Any tips???? HELP!!

Oh noosamum, that's awful! I hope you're feeling much MUCH better now! I've never had mastitis just hard lumps which basically disappeared overnight with massage and that hurt enough

mama anne - my skin wasn't red and blotchy so maybe you should go and see your doc like noosamum suggested? Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

jessi - Hiya and welcome  Have you chosen a name for your bub yet?

wattle - Hope you get some sleep tonight you poor mummy! Since my bubs had a cold last week she's slept well from 10ish till 2ish and then really *really* bad until sunrise, so I sort of know how you feel. Then of course will sleep beautifully from 7.30 onwards when I have to get up

AlliJB: heh from labour vibes to nipple vibes ... how far we've all come!

wattle: I'm about as dark haired as you can get and as you all know my nippular situation has been one disaster after another ... I called the ABA a couple of days ago and she told me the same thing, that fair skinned people have more trouble - was I fair skinned? Nope. Well, there goes that theory! :D

Jessi: hi!

Hmmm ... Asher's been asleep since 7pm ... better go prep the boobies for the onslaught that will happen any second now.

Healthy nipple vibes to all that need it and unreserved jealousy to all that don't :D

Take care folks!

morning all

well i never thought i'd be used to this getting up early in the morning thing (by early i mean before 10am, i WAS a uni student remember) but it's not so overly bad. i've been watching sunrise whilst feeding bubs the last couple of mornings ... helps keep me awake and gives me something to do while she fills up.

it's raining outside and has been since last night .... i love the rain! when i'm inside and warm that is. it was bella's first thunderstorm last night ..... no over the top screaming, so i'm assuming (for now) she's okay with them.

jessi hello! how exciting that your bub came early .... you missed out on all ... okay some ..... okay mostly me whinging about ours being overdue in the other thread .... so now is probably a good time to start hanging out with us! there's alot less talk about poo now also (our own, not our babies)

bfeeding probs for fair/dark my skin is VERY fair ... ruddy english ancestors. so far the only probs i've had are - attaching (helped now with a nipple shield), blocked ducts in both breasts .... but thats it. i suppose that's enough though!

speaking of the ducts, they are doing much better today thanks for asking. if anyone's wondering i find that massaging away the boobie lumps while feeding is helping them feel alot better, making sure i check my nipple pads after each feed (sometimes i don't even know they're soaked unless i check) .... and also hugging my hot water bottle in bed. so there you go.

well i should probably achieve something constructive before bubs next feed at 9:15ish. i was thinking last night i might think about (read: THINK about) house stuff in the mornings and if i have energy do some, and then allow myself time in the afternoons to relax or rest. otherwise i just feel guilty all day and nothing gets done.
so i'll see how that works as a plan

hope everyone's mornings are going well and we're all taking time to gaze still ...:)

Well Baden and I had a lovely day out yesterday at the Sydney meet. Met the lovely Beany and Asher

Then when we got home Baden decided to let me know that being in the car and the pram for so long was NOT his idea of a fun day. He was SO whingey.

I am off to get him weighed today. I can't wait to see what he weighs, the fat little codger.

I dropped into DFO on the way home yesterday to buy some new clothes, since I am still in my maternity clothes. Well I walked out with nothing but Baden now has two new Pumpkin Patch outfits!!

And I got my new medicare card yesterday with his name on it. Its SO weird, its SO official. I have a son. Wow. Its still sinking in ya know?

Welcome to Jessi, the September/August mummy with her little baby whale.

I have to take my little car today because its just up the road to get bubby weighed, but I can't fit the stroller in my car so I will have to use the dreaded Baby Bjorn today. Oh my poor back. DP probably knows that this means I won't go shopping, - its a conspiracy!! But I have to go shopping because there is a new section opening at the Westfields today, so we will have a shopping bill and a chiropractor bill. DP is outsmarted once again!

shed, which baby bjorn do you have? I just have the basic one but a friend has the active version - they travelled overseas and only took the BB but her hubby found it really hard on his back so they purchased the active version and haven't looked back - they love it, even sold the Mountain Buggy! I'm wishing I had of just paid the extra and gotten that one in the first place.

mama anne

yeah i have to say i have the active version and it is really really comfortable ... bella is about 4 kilos atm and i have no dramas walking round and round a shopping centre with her in it .... my back doesn't get sore at all. the best bit about it for us is that it fits both me and dh really comfortably, and i am 165cm and he is 187cm

Oh dear, can someone please pass me a nice strong drink!! I just took my two little munchkins out for their first trip together to the shopping centre. It was like coordinating a military strategic manoever.

I decided it was too much effort to heave the pram into the car, thought I'd try dd in the baby bjorn and ds in the pusher. Got ds organised - breakfast, teeth, change clothes (tantrum), put on shoes (tantrum), make snack food for him (tantrum), jacket on and in the car. Then put dd in the car, and chucked in nappies, wipes, change of clothes etc at lightening speed. Keys in ignition...... beep beep....damn, need petrol.

Then whaaaaaaaaa, dd was suddenly hungry. Couldn't be bothered to take them both inside, so turned on the car stereo, and gave dd a feed in the front seat. (Ds looked VERY confused). Ok, drive off. Dd starts again....whaaaaaaaaa. Must be wind. Sigh.

Get petrol, dd cries every time car stops. Get stuck at roadworks, more whaaaaaaa. Finally arrive at shops. Dd is asleep now. Ds starts. Whaaaaaa. Put him in the pusher, lock car.....oops, need ds. Get keys, unlock car, put on baby bjorn, get dd out, ds is frantic aaaaaaaaaagh.

Walk into shops. Go to priceline to get bonjela. Ds spots the dummies, it's on again whaaaaaaa. I could go on, but I guess you get the picture. So one VERY short shopping trip later (and after a great deal more whinging, crying and frustration) we arrive home.

Thank GOD!!

Then when we got home Baden decided to let me know that being in the car and the pram for so long was NOT his idea of a fun day. He was SO whingey.

Great (teeny) minds think alike ... Asher was so well behaved during the day out but as soon as we walked in the front door, out came the horns. Wowie did he ever tell me off for leaving him in the pram all day! And then. just to seal the deal, he pee-ed on me. Nice.

On a happier note, it was great meeting you and the fabulously hairy Baden - seriously girls, the pics don't do his mane justice. I think his father must be a lion. Awesome

Anne: ha ha ha ... housework ... The only thing I seem to be doing in that regard is the washing and then it only seems to be Asher's clothing and bedding. Having said that, I'm wearing the last pair of my giant clean undies (I'm not game to try my pre-preggy one's on just yet) so I'd better get onto some real washing soon. Either that or nip down to the shops and buy more ... hmmmm ...

I was dead pleased with myself yesterday - Asher had been breastfeeding the whole day - no bottles! I even breastfed him the night feeds at 11pm and 2am. He awoke at 6ish, had a change and a wee all over daddy (heh heh heh) and went onto the boob. Both of them. Until 7:40. And still wanted more! I was in absolute agony and eventually gave in and kicked Noodle, demanding a bottle. He fed him and I lay there doing the whole labour-breathing thing again. Sodding hell it hurt. Felt pretty disappointed, miserable and inadequate too - it was going to be my first 24 hours of exclusive breastfeeding since he was 2 days old :(

Stupid thrush.

Well the formula settled him completely and he went down for a sleep at 8, woke briefly to complain about a wet nappy at 10 and stunningly enough, went right back to sleep again with a dummy but no feed. Looking at the time, the booby onslaught will begin again any moment now ... I took some panadeine in anticipation half an hour ago. Hopefully the after pains won't be quite so horrendous.

Goodness, all I ever seem to do is whinge. Sorry folks :o

Brighter note: I finally let my supervisor know that Asher was born and that I haven't done anything towards my dissertation. She wrote back this morning thrilled about his birth and saying she would love to meet him - bringing anything to do with the dissertation was optional! In fact, she told me to put any work on that off until next year (February). I'm so glad I got her as a supervisor and not one of the shrivelled old prunes that seem to have run of the department!

Enough prattling on from me for now. Hope all is well with everyone!

I don't know what Baby Bjorn we have, just the normal one with the blue and red clips.

I used it today and it didn't hurt a bit, so that's good. Went and got bubby weighed and he is 4.85 kilograms. He peed on the bed at the clinic, ha ha ha.

noosamum - when I go overseas I am just taking the Baby Bjorn, but my mum has organised a cot and car seat for over there. I can't be bothered taking the stroller.

I had lunch at the foodcourt at Westfield and couldn't be bothered taking bubby out of the carrier coz I knew he would wake up and start squawking. When I finished my nachos I looked down and he was wearing some minced beef on the back of his neck, oops!!

Hi girls! I haven't been in for a few days and there's so much chatter to catch up on! Forgive me for not mentioning you all individually?

Hugs and sympathy to all with sore boozies :hugs: I had 2 who weren't interested in breastfeeding, and listening to your dramas I'm almost pleased about that! Although, last week I scored a bout of mastitis, even though DD hadn't been near the boob since day 3... but what can you do? GP gave me a/b's and all is good now.

Glad to hear everyone's bubs are growing nicely. Sorry to hear about the couple who have been unwell though.

We have a Baby Bjorn too. DS used to love it, haven't tried DD yet. I've never worn it though, much prefer the pram. The Baby Bjorn was more for DH to wear - and he loved it too.

As for us, DD is doing well. Terrible mummy that I am, I haven't had her weighed since the nurse came just after we came home from hospital. She's definitely growing though cos she's now gone into 000 wondersuits. She's sleeping really well. Only up long enough to have a bottle, then back to bed again until next feed - minimum of 4 hours, up to 6 overnight at times.

It still seems very surreal to think I now have "kids", rather than just DS. And an extra body to check on before I go to bed. We're loving it though :)

Hello August mummies!

Do you mind if I join you? I've been following this thread for awhile but have only just got around to posting (I'm still getting used to typing with only one hand!)

My little girl - Ella, was born on the 10th August (I was due the 31st July). So far everything is going really well. Except she is such a spewy baby:barf: She spews all of the time!! Does anyone else have this problem? I'm not really too worried about it because she's put on nearly 1.5kg since birth and it doesn't really seem to bother her. I think it bothers me more!! I seem to be covered in spew all the time!!

Shed - I know what you mean about the 'magical six week mark'. My dh keeps saying 'has it been six weeks yet?' NO 'can't we pretend it is?' NO :banghead: . I should've told him it was six months.......

I hope you're all having a great morning (if your anything like me, you've been up for hours already) I look forward to chatting with you all!

question:

I have forgotten what a belly button should look like once the stump falls off, and my Eamonn' one has me worried. Its still popping out about a cm from his belly- no sign of it going in. I have made him an appointment with our GP for monday but was wondering if any other bubbas have similar belly buttons and how long did it take for them to look normal.

Sorry I've been MIA but I've had a really stressful week here- and no its not the bubbas its DH.:banghead: Everything seems to be going downhill and I've neither the patience nor the will to be dealing with this **** at the moment. I've still been popping on to read updates, and am proud to see the results that us August mums have produced- a beautiful bunch of well-nourished infants. Still looking forward to a few birth stories that haven't been written:shame: ...

Here, breatfeeding is going swimmingly- no mastitis or cracked nipples which is a nice change on my last bub. This is the first child that has spared me the pain and discomfort of mastitis so I'm very pleased. He still prefers the night time for his activity- a real night owl, but I'm still managing to get a few hours of sleep. The joys of motherhood...

Alaanah, welcome and congrats on your bubba- what a champ, gaining 1.5kg in less than a month- that's bloody awesome !

Hi raffee - is everyting ok? Sorry you are so stressed, here's a hug :hugs: . I can't help with the belly button thing for Eamonn either , it's my own belly button I'm worried about here  - it looks weird, all stretched out of shape and doen't look as though it is going to go back to normal either.
Seriously though, I hope everything gets back to a more even keel for you though.

Ahhh wattle *passes wattle a stiff drink, scotch ok?* - that was me 6 years ago with a toddler and a newborn and all I can say is that, ....this too shall pass. Not much help I know, but it does get better...I promise!!

Baby Bjorn question - ok, I have one too, it's just the normal black one, what's the difference between the normal one and the active one - I have not heard of this one????? Miss C and I alternate between hating it and loving it (either she hates it and I'm enjoying it or vice versa!!). I just had a look at hugabubs on Ebay, just out of curiosity as I don't think I have seen them here in the shops - are they more comfortable?? If only I could come to Jane's hugabub party!

Welcome to Lou and baby Ella :)

Adele seems a bit quiet these days.......?????

hi ladies, remember teh tread I was hangng on to, well it officially broke three days ago, at 2 am:thumbsdown: , so now, Elena is feeding on formula, as well as breast, I can jst imagine, how bad her screams must have been if DH decided that he needed to go and get formula at 2 am. oh well, at least now, I know she is getting enough.

breatfeeding: big hugs to all dealing with mastitis/cracked nipples etc. it must be so hard :hugs:, mine seems to have improved a bit, and is not as uncomfortable as before.

clothing: need a seriuos shopping in here, none of my pre pregnancy stuff fit any more, they are all too big,for now I am living off my sisiters stuff, I have never had any thing that was too big, so that is new experience for me.

welcome lou and congrats for Ella.

Hi Girlies! Miserable rainy day here in Sydney,.... it was really lovely to get up to Jasper at 5:00 this morning and snuggle with him on the couch listening to the rain,....before the rest of the family got up!

Mastitis is back,....bugger,...ouch,.... red, lumpy and sore,..... does anyone know the best way to get rid of it? I have tried ice packs and panadol,...not much help,....And expressing seems to make it worse in the long run,.... Any suggestions?

Hey,..I have discovered the best things... They are callled LilyPads and you get them from the Australian Breastfeeding Association,. they are latexey - breast paddie sort of things that you stick on to your boobs, so that you can go out without wearing a bra,.. perfect for special events (I have a wedding to go to next Saturday),.... They stop milk from escaping! Website is www.mothersdirect.com.au check it out!

I took Jasper out clothes shopping yesterday,.. Scarlett hung out with my parents at playgroup,....and we went to Paddington and bought a dress from Zimmerman, and then sat in a cafe and I drank lattes and fed Jasper,. it was the first time in 2 years that I have been able to sit in a cafe for more than 5 mins! I never want to hear people with one child complaining about how hard it is ever again!!! One child is EASY! It almost feels like a holiday!!!

Woo hooooooooo, guess what, I got 5 hours sleep in one go last night :smiliedance: then a few hours after that! I think I can conquer the world today. hehe.

Yes Jane - 2 is a whole different story to one bub, but at least there's not that difficult learning curve. I'm definately more comfortable handling dd than I ever was with ds.

Not sure about mastitis, maybe do a google search. I have had blocked milk ducts which I was able to clear by dipping my nipples in hot water for 15 mins before a feed, then lifting the skin off it (OUCH), but it worked, sorry if TMI. Don't know if that is the best thing for mastitis though.

OK - going to hit the shops now, the baby bonus finally arrived. :D Has everyone else received theirs yet?

Yes, I got my baby bonus. We aren't doing anything in particular with it. Its in my account so its just money for me and bubby really. DP's not overly interested in what I do with it which suits me!

I need some new clothes, nothing fits (I am too fat) and I am getting heartily sick of wearing my maternity clothes. I can't go on a diet because it won't work, I am always ravenous.

I bought a couple of tops the other day but I didn't try them on. Bubby was in the Baby Bjorn so I couldn't be bothered trying them, so I just bought them. I have never done that before. They fit me though, luckily. My kid is in Pumpkin Patch and Baby Gap and I am in RAGS!!! Oh well, that's my life now, ha ha.

DP and I have decided that we need to update our Wills. Well he hasn't even got one, so we are going to do that shortly. When Steve Irwin died it made me realise that if Baden and I lost DP we would be in the poo a bit.

Also if we both die then we want to make sure bubby gets the life we want him to have. I want his brother and sister-in-law to take bubby if anything happens to us. They are the most similar to us in parenting style.

We are on a non-dummy day today due to some developing attachment issues to the boob. So I have quickly realised that its mummy or dummy, so I have to sit on the couch and pat him on the bum if I won't give him the dummy. Little tyrant!!

Mastitis is back,....bugger,...ouch,.... red, lumpy and sore,..... does anyone know the best way to get rid of it? I have tried ice packs and panadol,...not much help,....And expressing seems to make it worse in the long run,.... Any suggestions?

well i myself have been suffering with blocked ducts/suspected mastitis since wednesday and today finally bit the bullet and went to the doctor to get some antibiotics .... even under the threat of developing nipple (or vaginal apparently) thrush. the tips that i was told to try are:
*warm flannel on the affected breast before/during feeding to help break up the blockages
*if you can feel lumps then gently massage them while feeding to help move the blockages
*you can take a hot water bottle to bed to help with the pain
*stay hydrated, eat good food
*if you have flu-like symptoms (chills, hot/cold, aches) that don't clear up in 12 hours then go to the gp because it means it is infected and the blockage can then turn into an abcess which will then have to be drained:eek:
hope that helps! ring the aba if you're at all worried, they are WAY helpful

babybjorn my active one is black and red, the back straps have more support .... somehow. i'm not sure how to explain it. maybe there is a website somewhere ....? i do know though that different baby shops seem to have old and new models of them (there is a black one, the active one, and then there's a lightblue and grey one...?) so maybe thats to do with it too.

welcome lou :)

we havent got our baby bonus yet ..... but she's only 12 days old

well things here are going okay ... we have good days and bad days .... yesterday was a bit of a shocker, it was dh's first day back at work and i was feeling like **** (flu symptoms cause of boob dramas) so after taking dh to work, coming home, going to the hospital for a lactation consultant appointment, picking dh up from work .... all without ANY energy and with a screaming baby everytime we got in and out of the car .... it was a bit interesting. Anyway it's a new day today and i had a good sleep so i won't focus on the bad stuff.

sorry about the long post, it's been awhile!

hope all the mummies and bubs are going well :hugs:

Beany - I also managed to get nipple thrush at week 3! Horrible isnt it! luckily, I figured I had it early (with the help of google) and rang ABA to get advice, they told me what to get for bub, and I used canesten on myself making sure that I washed nipples before feeding. it started to work straight away but I did exress for 2 days in order to give myself a bit of time to feel less tender. Now, no probs at all - so it does get better - but I know exactly how you feel - its sooo painfull!
I am still giving 1 formula feed at night as Elise sleeps a lot better at night that way. Apart from that it is breastfeeding for the rest of the day. I tried going back to giving breastmilk for her night feed but she was not sleeping so well, so we decided to stick to the one formula feed - it works for us anyway. Eli sleeps till about 5 (ish) in the morning most days.
I went to get ger weighed again on Thursday and she is now just over 9 pound. So she has been putting on around 200g per week on average which is apparently good, She has also grown 3cm since she was born! :smiliedance: I had to ask the nurse about her poos as I was concerned. Up until this week, she was pooing about 4 times per day but now its just once a day at most - apparently this is very normal as their intestines start to settle down - so thats one worry out of the way! Thereme thinking she was constipated!!
So thats my news... oh and I am getting loads of really lovely smiles when I tickle ger cheek which is soo cute!

Beany

Can someone please explain to me how a child drinking just booby juice (and the odd bottle of formula here and there) can produce something that smells like THAT?

Seriously, the paint is peeling off my walls here!

LP: yes nipple thrush bites the big one. Mine didn't clear up on the canestan alone - I had the standard routine of feeding him, burping him, waiting 5 minutes and then hunching over in pain for a good 15 minutes or so. Did some more research today and have started on a course of Diflucan as well as the topical cream for me and the drops for him. Something's gotta give.

Other than that, things here are okay in the bleary-eyed way of new parenthood. Last night was the first night since coming home from hospital that we turned the bedroom lamp off when we went to sleep. Prior to that, we left it on all night (with a 40 watt bulb) just out of paranoia. As it was, I kept holding my breath and listening out for his ... Something else to lose sleep over! :D

btw Paris: a big fat raspberry heading your way. Pre-pregnancy clothes being to big for you ... Right now, I think even a circus tent would be too small for me. I should go on that diet I keep meaning to go on. Soon, soon ... *eats more ice cream*

How long did it take for the baby bonus to arrive? I sent all the paperwork off last Friday. Not in any great rush, I suppose. The money was just going to sit in my bank account for a while. Might possibly buy a digital camcorder thingy *shrug*

Okay, the feed is finished and so off to bed I go! Night folks!

Anyway, they have hired Jasper a nanny....so he is going to sleep in a penthouse apartment, on one of the most opulant ships in the world, with his own nanny (who is going to call me when he wakes for a feed) whilst we attend a wedding,.... and I am dreading it! I am having major issues with th thought of leaving him with someone who isnt either his father or my parents,.... I think I will just keep him on the boob all night and say that he is usettled! Hi Jane - well I could have written that post.
I have a black tie event (an awards night) to attend next month, and it is interstate (all expenses paid) where I have no friends or family to leave bub with, not that I would want to anyway. The event organisers have organised a nanny for Clio, who will look after her in my hotel room and be close by, but I am in agony over whether I can leave her with a stranger but then I got the impression from the event organisers that it wasn't the sort of event where I could just sling out a boob if need be (but she won't have a bottle so I would have no choice).

So I'm in two minds whether to go or not, it is a huge honour to be invited but I can't find anything to wear that is glam enough (any ideas????) and allows for easy boob access anyway, let alone contemplate the whole "leave the baby with a stranger" drama.

Aaaargh!!!!!!!

I won't leave the baby with anyone. I have been away from him for ten minutes when he was about two weeks old, I went up to the shop.

I'm happy enough to leave Asher alone with his father for a couple of hours - had to do so last week as I went off to do battle with Medicare and deal with banks and bills and all sorts of other paperwork that involved standing in hideously long queues.

I wouldn't be so happy doing so with anyone else, though. There's a movie out that I really want to see. I could feed the Beanlet, put him down for a sleep and be back before he wakes but the thought of leaving him with the in-laws for even that time gives me the heebie-jeebies. But he's only three weeks old. Maybe when he's older. Like 6. teen. years.

hi everyone...

well everything is going well here- except that Skyla is cling, shes a coumfert sucker and I get nothing done:rolleyes: But its ok.... were just waiting for the magic 6 weeks mark.

DP is back to work tomorow so it will be thew first time Ive been alone with Skyla for a whole day... Im sure everything will be fine- but whos going to make my brekfast and lunch and get me drinks:confused: Guess Ill have to do it myself.... not sure I remeber how though... Ive been in our kitchen all of about 3 times in the last couple of weeks and that was only to steralise bottles when DP was holding Skyla:D

Leaving Bubby- Well I have a wedding to go to on the 23rd of this month also.... We are able to take bub though or we wouldnt be going. Its away from brisi too but the hotel were staying at is right across the road from the reception centre so i can go there to feed

DP's nan asked if we wanted to leave skyla there yesterday so I could have a break for an hour I freaked out and said NOOOOOOO IM NOT READY  Fortunatly she wasnt offended

Ohh I had my first "mind your own buisness" moment yesterday.Whilst sitting eating lunch with Skyla and DP for our aniversary(I got a diamond neclace and ring lucky meeeeee) this old lady who wa a real grump was looking at me... i was b/feeding DD and was thinking hmm i wonder how long it will be before she says something..... and then it happened.... Not about the breast feeding suprisingly enough but about DD's feet!! She yelled at me her feet are cold!! I turned and looked at her and said NO they arnt -she's FINE!! and went back to my lunch dd had socks on for gawds sake... lucky the old bat didnt see her today though.. I went and did the grocery shopping and forgot to put socks on D oooooops

I haven't got around to getting any parenting type books. What happens at 6 weeks?

Ash has nigh on killed me today. Things started okay but since about 5pm, when he woke for a feed, he's been incredibly unsettled. He has a suck or two, drops the nipple, fusses like mad trying to reattach, sucks once or twice, falls asleep. Go to put him to bed, he either wakes up the second I stand up or wakes up 5 minutes after I put him down. My boobs, already in a state of thrushy torture, feel like they have been through an old-fashioned clothes wringer.

There goes the microwave ting. Off to fill some bottles as back-up and to bed I go. Probably to wake in 5 minutes as someone shrieks for a boob. This is taking the whole "like father like son" altogether far too far ...

Hey there Beany.... you up late too? Oooh I remember 6 weeks with ds....I think they cry the most at 6 weeks, so soon it should be much better. Here's a link to the bubhub/huggies development email site thingy.

Things going well here. I took dd shopping on the weekend, it was nice to choose a few things for her. I guess it won't be long until she just wants me (and my credit card) to silently tag along on shopping trips.

I also took some lovely photos of her - it took aaaaaaaaages, but it was worth it. I checked out a few anne geddes photos for ideas and then spent the arvo heating the room/feeding/settling/positioning/wrapping/unwrapping etc. It's so hard when there's a zillion things to do to find the time to take photos, but they're so lovely to look back on.

Have a great week everyone.

Hey everyone,

Once again, can't remember everything I want to say! When will they give me my brain back? I think it went into the path. waste bin with the placenta!

Raffee -- I hope things get better for you soon. It all sounds really hard, especially with a newborn too.

Wills -- yep, we did these when our first was born. Mainly because my husband's parents are psychos (we don't speak to them) and there's no way we wanted them getting their hands on our kids if we died. The wills cost heaps as we had to set up testamentary trusts as well because my husband is likely to get sued through work. Bleh. Could have thought of plenty of more fun ways to spend the cash!!!

Baby bonus -- Teddy has decided he wants a new iMac. Good boy!

The World -- wow, Jane, you're so lucky! What an experience! I read about the ship in the paper today and it looks amazing!

Leaving baby -- have only done this for about fifteen minutes so far. Off to a wedding soon, but luckily it's low key and he's also invited.

Beany, you might have to stop using the dummy. Thats EXACTLY what Baden was doing, and then I had a no-dummy day (which involves sitting on the couch ALL day holding the baby) and now he is back in full swing, feeding like a little trouper.

We still use it at night and he seems to know the difference now. No doubt the dummy use will sneak back in :o and we will have to go through it all again.

The magic six week mark is today, but um, nothing has happened!! What is supposed to happen? I am half expecting another growth spurt, but because we have been doing the no-dummy thing I dunno if I will be able to tell the difference.

I am going to a baby shower today, mainly just to get out of the house and catch up with an old friend, its her daughter who the shower is for. DP had to come home at smoko to drop off the car and then I had to drive him back to work, because the baby shower is too far for my rattly little blown-up car to go.

So I threw some clothes on and we put bubby in the car, still in his pj's, so of course this is the day that the owner of DP's work decides to be in the carpark isn't it? So here I am un-bathed, with my un-bathed baby who is in a cute outfit but its a one-piece pyjama thing, in the office of DP's work. Of all the days!!

What about the days that I am on my way to somewhere and drop DP off? The days where I am showered and blow-waved and bubby is dressed in a little "outfit" and has no trace of spew anywhere. Why not on one of those days???

Morning ladies

How are we all on this lovely morning? To all of you who have had or have mastitis, I'm well and truly about to join your club- ouch!!!! I think I jinxed myself with my last post, claiming invincibility- well, here I sit with a red raw boob, in absolute agony, and I know the chills will be starting soon, so off to the doc I go

Noosamum, my belly button hasnt been the same since my 3rd baby, so I got it pierced to make it look more pleasant. Sadly, it closed when I was preggers with no.4 and I'm not brave enough to get it redone. So I guess I'll have to learn to love my mishaped navel after all...

Bub's baby bonus has also arrived. Don't have any grand plans for it yet, but thinking hard as I browse the shops:p .

Shed, good idea about the wills. Neither I nor DP have one, so I'm gonna start thinking about it seriously- cant believe I've never thought about it before.

Mama anne- hope you've adjusted to having dp back at work, wish my dp would go back to work- I just want him out of my hair:banghead: ...speaking of hair, I dont think I've ever mentioned that I'm a muslim woman who adorns a veil when in public (not that is of any relevence but hey, thought it might be interesting to share it! )

Jane- have fun at the wedding- sounds so lavish! I think you deserve to splurge on something nice- treat yourself to a new outfit and try not to stress about bubba being with a nanny. You deserve a night or r&r.

Wattle- what a gorgeous avatar. You're girl is a stunner. I need to get my camera out and start taking new pics of ds. I've been so lazy lately, I havent taken any in almost 2 weeks!

Alli- a new imac!!! What a clever lil boy you've got!;)

Okes, hope you all have a lovely day. Off to the docs for me...

Noosamum - I wouldnt go,....been to one awards ceremony, been to em all,...but I am a little biased,.I used to produce them,...Infact a client called me this morning and asked me to do a show for her in december,...my first in 2 years!!!!

Is anyone elses DP being unreal at the moment? Mike does all the washing, cooking, Scarlett feeding etc(housekeeper does the cleaning),..it is brilliant! He and Squidg made raspberry muffins yesterday! Yummo!

I bought a new dress for the wedding,...a lovely floral zimmerman one,...and am going to get a pedicure and a spray tan on Wed,..(brown fat looks better than white!!) but am a bit worried about Jasper breathing in the spray tan fumes when he feeds,...any thoughts on that?

Evening all

Well Chloe WAS asleep till her Mummy thought that she would jump on here to catch up on all the posts...then she decided to wake up...her and Daddy are snuggling up on the couch...Oh and she sounds hungry

There was too many posts to do personals but will just talk about things in general

Breastfeeding - I am still only exclusivly BF'ing and I really hope that I can continue to do that...Chloe is doing really well and sometimes at night she can even sleep up to 6 hours without waking...I am SO SCARED that I am going to get my mastitis back...at least I know now and I will be straight to the Dr's to get Antibiotics...I love being able to sit on the couch with her and "BOND" with my beautiful girl

Wills/Baby Bonus - Yep have already done both...my DH is one organised Man and all that is done...Chloe has already got her own Bank account where we put half of the baby bonus the other half we just used to top up our account after all the baby spending we have had to do.

Photos - My SIL takes photos profesionally so we got her over the other week and she took some really great ones of Chloe

Me - doing as well as I can be considering i am no longer getting 8 hours of sleep each night... DH has been great and looking aftter her so I can take an afternoon nap....he goes back to work on Thursday...AHH what will I do hee hee....
I have left Chloe on a few occasions...generally with my mum or DH and only for 30 minutes to an hour...and generally to quickly pop into town...we live in a small town and is much easier at times to leave Chloe at home rather then getting stopped every 5 minutes so people can talk to us and look at Chloe....I also left her at home th other day cause a friend of mine had a miscarriage and I did nto think she would want to be around a new bub after her loss....but at this stage I have no interest what so ever at returning to work....enjoying being a mum just too much

Oh well better go as little one is hungry and Daddy does not like to leave his little one crying..Oh yes she will be in for a shock when he goes back to work as Mummy leaves her cry a little before getting picked up..

Talk to you all soon

Evening

Just about to sit down to dinner ( home-made chicken jalfrezi mmmmm:D ), but thought I'd quickly share my good news! Went to the doc, says I should try natural remedies for the mastitis at this stage and just keep an eye on it, but he weighed bubba and the butterball is weighing in at 5.05 kg bare weight!!!! And he's only 23 days old! I'm a very proud mama indeed and feel really reassured that my milk is doing its job.

Well, dinner's getting cold...

Anyone up??? I had to give Clio a dummy tonight, first time. She is really really unsettled (first time since she was born that I haven't been able to settle her)and has been awake and inconsolable since 2pm, DH is in SA at a conference and I had to give in and give her a dummy or my nipples were going to implode.

She is asleep finally now, with dummy and finally peaceful - do you think I should take out the dummy or just leave it?????

Sorry to hear about your difficult afternoon/evening. Glad Clio is being a good girl now. I'm an avid fan of the dummy myself- I even took them to the hospy. I'd say leave it in, they usually spit it out once they're in deep sleep, so best not disturb her if she's been unsettled. Hope she sleeps through for you.

Well, the growth spurt I mentioned this morning has kicked in. The boy has fed and fed and fed.

I went to the baby shower today and there was another little baby there and it was tiny. Baden looked huge next to this delicate little thing and they are the same age. That baby's mother smokes though, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

Re: the crying. I can't leave bubby to cry if its his 'hunger cry' which sounds like this "innnga, innnga, innnga". (it has "g" sounds in it) I mean physically I can't. His cries start my milk letdown and it starts to hurt if I leave it for more than about ten seconds or so. We have a symbiotic relationship, I need him as much as he needs me. He has a whingey cry as well, when he is left by himself and can't see me. Its like this "in-nyah, in-nyah" and if I pick him up it stops instantly. It reminds me of a doll I used to have that would cry when you took the dummy out. It had a miniature record in the back (pre-computer chip days! god I'm old)

My DP is just being his normal self. He's always been the cook in the house, I can't cook to save myself and he would rather cook than have to eat my efforts. And he's much tidier than me, he got the nesting instinct from about week 20, big time!! At the moment he is sitting on the couch with bubby talking and making silly sounds. Bubby is just staring at him. My two lovely boys, I am so lucky.

Must be something in the water - Asher has been a discontented boob-hugger all day, too. I tried giving him a bottle at around 10pm (so that I could finally get some dinner myself), which he happily guzzled up but then sat there on his father's lap staring over at me with a "What the hell? You're just going to sit there stuffing your face while I have no booby in my mouth?!" look on his face. I finished dinner, he took it as a cue and squawked. Stuck a boob in, he fell asleep ... for 25 whole minutes! Wheee!

I'm tempted to stick a dummy in his mouth but I'm taking shed's been-there-done-that wisdom on board and thinking that maybe the fussing was due to nipple confusion. No dummy yet today. My nipples are very unamused. Must admit, he falls asleep a lot quicker by boob than by dummy, though.

My sister finally got back to me regarding Asher's birth. An email consisting of a number of religiously motivated instructions (including an order to shave his head - which I am diligently ignoring) followed by "he is very cute". Believe it or not, even that kind of communication from her is a notable improvement.

Okay, off to put out the laundry and get ready to the next feed. Night all :)

Wow, haven't our lives changed. Putting out washing at 12.30am Beany?????? I must admit I have been using the dryer lots because it's quicker than hanging it out. Naughty me, I'll regret it when I get my next electricity bill. But Melbourne weather is only just starting to be suitable for clothes line drying anyway.

We were planning on going out to dinner tomorrow night and letting mum and dad babysit the kids, but dd has been so unsettled in the evenings I don't think we'll bother. I guess there'll be plenty of time for dinners out once she's a little bit older, then I'll be able to relax better too. So much for all that advice you get before you have bubs eh - "Sleep when the baby sleeps" and "Make sure you have time for yourselves" and "Just leave the housework and concentrate on your baby"........yeah right. I'm just thanking my lucky stars that dd is still really sleepy most of the day so I can spend time with ds, he's still coming to grips with adjusting to the new baby situation.

Ok well time to get on with the day...... have a good one girls. BTW are there any melbourne mums here? It'd be nice to catch up.

I'm exhausted today. DD was awake more or less for 3 hours overnight. I have to say I didn't deal with it very well. I'm starting to get a bit worried that PND may be returning (I had it with DS). Ditto.

Beanlet went to bed at about midnight. Woke at 3:45. And pretty much stayed that way until past 6 ...

As it was his father's first day back at work today since Asher was born, I was desperately trying not to wake him, to just get on with it myself so that he could have a decent sleep. At 5:30, I chucked in the towel and bleated for help - the nipple pain, the frustration and the exhaustion just got to me (especially so after the clingy day Asher had had) and while his father gave him a bottle, I hid under the covers and wept. He finally went to sleep (for all of an hour) and woke again at 7:30 having wet himself to some unimaginable degree. And so it all began again ...

There are times when I just feel so utterly inadequate for this motherhood lark. Mostly those times are when my eyes are open.

Poor little sod, lumbered with me for a mother :(

:hugs: to mrs potts and beany for the traumatising night you've been through. Noosamum is right- this too will pass and will indeed test your sanity. Just give your DP's a smack about the head til they comprehend how youre feeling and can legitimitely take over while you guys recoup. I threatened mine with divorce!

Jane, the natural remedies are some of those mentioned here, but I also heard that cabbage leaves placed over the breast can really help, as can a warmed wheat back just before breast feeding. I used that last night, and am seriously better today-not recovered but much much better. The redness and tenderness is slowly dissipating, and I'm also religiously massaging the area as bub feeds. The mistake is feeding them more from that boob to try and ease it- DONT. Just keep up the regular pattern and soon it will ease:fingerscrossed: . Sorry cant help with the dogs, though I think ultimately baby will need to become desensitised to it- mine is slowly becoming desensitised to his rowdy pack of siblings.

Ok gotta run!!!!!!

Beany, stop talking rot, you're doing a great job. Don't worry about waking the Noodle up at nights, he is EXPECTED to go to work a bit bleary eyed at the moment. He'll probably love all the attention he gets from looking so tired. Its early days yet, early days.

Bubby slept from 11pm till 5.30am last night. So it does get better. Tonight, who knows?

We are having a pyjama day today, I am still in my pyjamas and will stay in them until about 4.45pm. DP gets home at 5pm so I always like to be dressed by then (I run a tight ship, LMAO!!).

Bubby is also still in his pyjamas. We are on no-dummy duty again so its pointless trying to actually do anything, so I am sitting on the couch in front of the laptop, bubby is snuggled up next to me asleep, and when he wakes up I feed him and burp him and we sit here snuggling and I sing to him until he nods off again.

Meanwhile, I have been surfing non-stop while he sleeps and I have spent a couple of hundred dollars today, LOL!! All of it on him of course, I have no interest in anything not Baden-related at the moment.

He smiled at me today. A real one. Not a windy one, a real one, right at me. I have been waiting for it and been determined not to say he is smiling until I knew it was real. And today was the day, yay!! I was looking right at him and talking away in a silly-mummy voice and he laid one on me. I nearly wept with joy, WHAT A BUZZ!!!! My clever baby.

DH is really good too, and so far has been doing more than his fair share of night feeds. So much so that I *needed* to deal with DD on my own last night - no matter how hard it got. I was starting to feel too useless and inadequate as DH was doing more than me for our daughter....

Shed - hope the no-dummy thing works out for you!

Thanks raffee too. I know it will pass - after all I've been there before (and DD is waaay easier than DS was at the same age!). I think I'm just older, tireder and far less patient and tolerant than I used to be....

She slept through grocery shopping, school pick up for the older children, swimming lessons/training and a trip to Video Ezy/McDonalds (Master 9 made it into Junior Squad this afternoon so it was a special reward!!), has been in and out of the car half a dozen times and she's still sleeping. AND missed a feed that I thought she would have been demanding at swimming.

I don't think this is a good thing all this sleeping (dreading the night ahead)!! - and there I was last night worried that she was not sleeping enough!!

Hi Cathy,
I tried one out on Clio last night (out of desperation) and she is 4 weeks today. I just happened to have a freebie one from Avent.

She wasn't overly impressed either and it was a few tries before she didn't spit it out - but ended up going to sleep quite peacefully after a long day of being unsettled. She let it go while sleeping and I took it away.

I was reluctant to use a dummy as DS had one and he was very hard to persuade to give it up. DD no1 though never had one so I'm in two minds about DD no2 but we'll see what happens tonight!! She has slept the day away today quite happily.

Re Dummies: DD was given a dummy on about day two. DS probably similar (we were definitely still in hospital).

Also, I've found that neither of mine like the Avent dummies (or other "shaped" ones). From what midwives have told me that's quite common. Bubs generally prefer the old fashioned cherry shaped ones. Happy Baby make good ones that are cheap too. You would want to make sure you get a newborn sized one.

Of course, it's an absolute bonus if your bub can do without it! Good luck :)

Hi All,

Im home!! Havent had a chance to catch up on whats happening with all- am hoping to do that tommorrow.

Well what a suprise I got. Here we were planning on a little girl and then the Dr doing my emergency c section says its a boy. Well my husband looks at me and says
"Its a little boy El"
my response "Dont f*** around with me Im in pain!"
"No really its a little boy and I tell you he's got big balls"
Apparently when they showed him to my hubby at first he thought his daughter had balls  Then hubby had to take the baby to be weighed and everything and says to my Mum.
"come meet your grandson" to a dumbfounded response. I think he response was similar to mine but just not vocalised.

So anyway little James John has arrived. Named after a family tradition where the eldest son traditionally is named James. Hasnt always been the followed but we like the name James anyhow. He is seriously adorable and is so placid. Sleeps right through the night. The only drama we have is trying to encourage him to latch on for breastfeeding. Really not having much luck and after a stressful week Im very worried I may lose my milk (my grammie ended up passing away Saturday before she could meet my little James) So anyhow Im trying to express to encourage the milk supply.

Ourbump My hubby mentioned about our parallel pregnancies. Kinda freaky dont you think?? Even being the same weight!!

Anyhow all nigh night hope your bubbas all sleep sweet and give you some rest. I will catch up on all the happenings tommorrow when my "babysitter" arrives. The joys of c sections eh

Re: dummies - DD only likes the avent ones! I have tried others but she just spits them out! I think it was at around 2 weeks that we introduced the dummy, this was because she is a very sucky baby and would suck anything she came into contact with and would gripe if nothing was available - this became apparent when we swaddled her as she could not get her hands to her mouth to suck her thumb which she does at every available opportunity. I usually use the dummy to settle her but she spits it out before falling asleep and then we take it away - so not too bad!

We had the follow up pediatrician appointment today and have been given the all clear - she is doing really well and now weighs 9 and a half pound! she has grown 3 cm since birth. Yay! I asked the prediatrician what he thought of the fact that dd is BF all day and night except for the last feed before bed when she has formula. he said that over half the people he sees does this and there is no problem with it at all - he said that quite often this is a usefull tool to get bub to sleep better during the night - SO given the fact that it is working for us, and for bub, we have decided to continue.

Hows everyone else going with BF? I hope the mastitis issues and other bF related woes are getting better!

Missis_Mack - congrats on your surprise little boy! I love the name James! Hope you didnt buy too much pink!!

DD has been smiling heaps over the ast few days - full face smiles where her little nose crinkle and her eyes crease - sooo heart melting! She even smiled for the pediatrician and reception girl - so she is going to be a typical Leo I think!

Shed - I am planning a pyjama day tomorrow, and the next day. I want to up my milk supply a bit and so I am going to go with the supply and demand theory and spend all day feeding and cuddling etc - thats my excuse - but really I am looking forward to my little babymoon!

evening all

thought i'd do a quick post before i head to bed ... so not too sure how coherent/interesting this will be!

we are doing well, bella was 2 weeks yesterday so we've been home for two weeks this thursday ....... it feels like infinitely longer and shorter than that at the same time.

since coming home we've been slowly working on a general routine for the daytimes .... nighttime it's whatever comes (as in whenever she wakes) but daytime generally is feeding her every 2and a half-3 hours, first feed is at 5:30am-7amish and last feed is around about 9pm-10pmish with a bath afterwards. it's not a heaps strict routine ...... if she's hungry then i'll feed her but if i havent woken her for her feed then it will generally be really close to 2 and a half hours anyway. it's working out really well for us ..... i'm not an overly structured person generally but i knew before having her that i really wouldnt deal if i didn't have at least a general idea of what to expect in the days at least.

anyway its working well for us. nighttimes are anything from feeds every 2 hours, a 5 hour sleep and a 4 hour sleep, or 2 nights ago she slept for 8 hours  i woke up thinking i'd slept through her cries somehow ..... anyway she's putting on heaps of weight (or had the last time she was weighed) and is pooing and weeing like a little champion, so something must be going right.

the only fly in the ointment around here is the settling (only sometimes, but she has a sleep on me at least once a day cause i'd rather her sleep on me than not sleep at all) and the sore boobs :crying: the ducts seem to be clearing up with the antibiotics :yelclap: if only they'd fix the nipples also .... i have a crack in one that is more like the grand canyon. ah well life goes on.

well off to bed for me. who knows how long a sleep i'll get before the next meal .... sleep well mummies. you're all doing a fantastic job:hugs:

Beany

Anne: what with the crack and the antibiotics GET PROBIOTIC PILLS NOW! Inner Health Plus. Or the Blackmores stuff. And eat some yoghurt with live cultures.

Beany- Just because, cloths are big on me does not mean I am fine, I urgently need to go on a diet, as I was overweigth to start with. need to lose a good 7-8 kilos although 10 would be nice.
btw, have you tried sleeping with DS in your bed, then put him back in his bed once he is fast sleep. That is what I am doing now (co sleeping for a while), as DD does excatly the same as your DS.

Missie Mack- congrats and welcome back, wow what a surperise
Dummies - DD takes a variety of shapes, including her hand.
BFing issues- my supplies once again is going down, i am totally confused and can't work out if she is comfort sucking or feeding. big hugs :hugs: to all thoese still battling with BF pains and sores
leaving bub- the longest I have left the bub was for around 3-4 hours at the start of this month, my hair and face needed some urgent attention. DH and MIL were with her, so I did not worry much. I have left bub with my sister for couple of hours, a few times cause it was raining and I did not want her to catch the cold, other wise we are out and about almost every day

we are having a how dare you put me down day today, DD is unusually clingy, and was crying for majority of the day, I am starting to suspect tummy pain, as she will calm down, if her tummy is kept warm against my body.got to go anf get some baby panadol today, just in case.
DD is 6 weeks tiday, I just remembered, I have forgotten to go to my GP for our 6 weekly check up.:o might do that tomorrow, too many things to deal with tody. she is getting her hand and feet sculpture done in the morning then we are off to mothers group, I am loving these meetings, they are soo cool. It seems too unreal, she will be due for two month vaccinations soon:eek: my god time fly too fast.

off to bed now, just incase I can get some sleep. have fun mummies

morning all :)

well we had a really good night last night, bubs fed at 9pm, midnight, then woke up at 8:10am this morning! the worriedfirsttimemum in me is stressing that she isn't getting enough food if she goes 8 hours between feeds ... but then the rest of me says "shut up! she slept for 8 hours! thats what we want!". and it was only one 8 hour stretch, the rest of the time its every 3 hours or so .... so i will stop overanalysing and enjoy.

missiemack welcome back, what a surprise! welcome to little james as well :yelclap:

beany i have people coming over for lunch ... well meeting at my house then we're walking down to the shopping centre for lunch so i shall be probiotic-ing from this afternoon at the latest. thanks for the kick up the bum! i'm a little bit too laid back for my own good sometimes ....

well it's a sunny day outside so i'm going to wash some jeans so they can dry in the sun ........ of course as soon as i turn the washing machine on it will start to rain .... ah well. have a good day mummies

Hi Missie Mack and welcome little James!

Hi everyone else!

I just had to share that after a dreadful time Monday night, DD had an awesome night last night. DH fed her around 11ish last night, she grizzled at 4am and I gave her a dummy (she tends to half wake and not be hungry - the dummy means she gets more sleep). She then slept til 630am :yelclap: Would love it if she got used to that kind of routine!

Also, I have discovered that some of the angst I was feeling could well have been a bit of PMS. It seems the lochia has stopped, and AF has arrived. What fun for me! Or the bleeding has started again, but I think this is unlikely.

DD and I have our 6 week check up tomorrow. Can't wait to see how much she's grown.

Hope you've all had a wonderful day! :)

I have some questions... with the baby bonus & registering the baby- dont you need to go into medicare & centerlink with all the paperwork?? This is what the hospital told me... and even with MIL here for the last 2.5weeks (lets just say im REALLY struggling with this whole motherhood thing)- I havent had the time OR energy to do paperwork and run around finding dole offices.

Also- R U supposed to wait to the 6week mark before you, as Shed put it, "resume relations" with your partners??

My brain is totally not working.

shed
13-09-2006, 15:52
jessi - I got my baby bonus and my medicare card with Baden's name added without walking into any offices. I sent the form away and they rang me and it was done over the phone (for the baby bonus) and it was in my bank a week later. For medicare I just sent the form away and they sent the card back.

Yes, the doctor said to me to wait six weeks to 'resume relations'. I know lots of people are at it earlier than this but six weeks is the standard. That was fine by me, except now that we are at the six week mark...LOL. I am terrified of getting pregnant. I am fully breastfeeding which is supposed to be natures contraceptive, but I still see women with a baby and a big tummy around and it scares me!!

Beany, I have been taking those Natures Plus tablets for a while now (when I remember). I think Littlepickle mentioned something about them a couple of months ago when we were still pregnant (they stop Strep B or something, can't quite recall but I waddled out and got some at the time). So that might be why I have had no nipple iss-ewes. So I will keep taking them.

Welcome to little James!! What a lovely surprise. Bit of a shock!!

I might go and get bubby weighed tomorrow. Just for something to do. I can't be bothered going for my six week check up. There's nothing to check. We are non-vaxers at this stage so don't need to worry about that check up either.

We got our baby bonus yesterday (whee!) and ordered our new iMac online today. Now I just have to teach Teddy how to type! It took us ages to get ours. We posted it in the day after we got home from the hospital (mid August). Called up last week after we realised lots of people had been getting theirs a few days after putting their forms in and Family Assistance totally gave us the runaround. In the end they wanted us to put in a newborn form for our daughter. And she's almost three! Makes absolutely no sense and they were really weird about the whole thing. Very strange interaction.

Poor Teddy's been crying and crying today. No idea why. Just an unhappy camper. Will get him weighed tomorrow out of interest's sake. He's absolutely huge -- already growing out of his size 000s!!! Am not looking forward to dad going back to work next week. Scary stuff. Especially because he's much better with the crying than I am.

Well, better run off and massage myself again. I've got a bit of a lump in one breast that I'm praying doesn't turn into mastitis. :fingerscrossed:

Well I'm having the same experience as you Alli - put form in ages ago, and then rang them last week as I read on here that everyone else seemed to be getting theirs quickly and they were very strange about it all and then sent out more newborn forms ???? so I rang them today and I have to put in newborn forms for DS (he's 9!!) and DD no 1 (she's 6) - why this would be so, I have nooooo idea. as I don't (and won't/can't) receive a cent for them. I'm only trying to claim the baby bonus which as far as I know, is not means tested

I wanted to ask too, those girls who are off on plane travel shortly (LP. Shed and my3sons I think??) - what are you planning to take (pram??, carseat ??etc) and do you know any tips for flying with babies?? I am off interstate shortly to an awards night ....... Any tips???? HELP!!

Hi  Im on my catch up threads not sure if your question has been answered or not. My girlfriend use to work for Ansett and her advice is to ensure that the bubbas have a bottle or at least a dummy on take off and landing. Babies arent able to pop their own ears and it causes pain. Using the bottle assists the popping to occur.

When we came home from Melbourne there was a widdle widdle bubba on the plane and the Mummy had a over the shoulder under the arm sling to carry her baby in looked like a brilliant idea as it gave her extra hands for all those normal things when you fly....

Sydney Girls Outings Im in Wollongong and while I cant attend anything in the now would love to join you all sometime in the future (Im a Sydney girl at heart and cant wait to go bubba shopping in Paddington :D )

HELLLLLOOOOO! Here you all are. Oh how I've missed talking to you all, I have been busy recovering from the c-section and getting to know Avalon. I cannot believe that it's actually a 'luxury' to get on the computer these days!!! I have been thinking of you all and wondering how you're all going. The last time I logged in (seems like a hundred years ago) from memory... Adele was still anxiously awaiting as was Beany, so I will have to go through the latest posts to see what's been going on whilst I've been AWOL. I will also have to update my Avartar from my Cat to baby, LoL, I don't want you all to think I'm doing a Tom and Katie and not showing my baby LOL!
Anyway better dash, Avalon and I are fine, although she is big-time on England time, asleep in the day and awake at night, just as well I'm an insomniac:o

Talk to you all again soon and CONGRATS to the latest new Mummies:smiliedance:

Guess what! I have booked the flights for our overseas trip next month!! Yay!
We are flying Singapore Airlines as I always fly with them, they are lovely, and also, they are apparently really good if you are flying with kids!
Would you believe that bubs ticket was $477!!! Even though she flies free - ! Ha! The $477 is a fuel surcharge that you have to pay for babies under 2 years old! I was like WHAT THE!! Its not like she weighs that much and is going to make the plane use that much fuel - she is not taking up a seat, not eating meals etc etc:banghead: I find it annoying that this is obviously a way for them to squeeze more money out of people! Anyway - venting aside.. we have been confirmed a bassinet seat, and requested a bulkhead seat to the side of the plain rather than the middle as apparently they rarely put another person in the third seat if they can help it, so fingers crossed we will get 3 seats to ourselves! I am looking forward to going away though - it will be lovely to have a holiday - even if it is just for 2 weeks! DH's parents are looking forward to meeting their yourgest grandchild!
DH doesnt want us to take the bugaboo over with us as he is worried that it might get damaged during the flight, he thinks that we will be fine with just the baby slings - I have the peanut shell - he has the baby bjorn.. thing is, I cant decide. Whilst I agree that it would be less to cart around, it would mean that we have to carry bub everywhere, and even though she is tiny, she still gets heavy after a while of carrying her around in the sing.. shy back starts to ache a bit!
Anyway - enough of me ..
Noosamum - How are you? *waves* I had trouble with the baby bonus too - first I tried doing the whole thing online, but then the website went down, then I rang them, and had to go through all of my details again over the phone, then I was told to drop the form into medicare - which I did and had to sit down and go through all of the questions again! Aaarrgghh - then 2 weeks later, the money appeared into my account pheeew! So much beaurocracy and hoops to jump through!
Shed - you are right about the nature plus capsules, they are great! I wish I had taken my own advice and taken them after DD was born as I managed to get niple thrush due to the high dose of IV antibiotic that I had during labour coupled with the cracked nipples and the fact that I "forgot" to take the inner health capsules .. d'uh! Now I take them religiously. In fact, I was told that by opening a capsule and dipping a finger into the powder and letting bub suck my finger would prevent upset tummies in bubs - but I havent done this. I dont really want to give anything to bubs unless I really have to. Besides, she is doing fine and as long as she is breastfeeding, and I am looking after myself, her tummy should be ok. But apparently it can help to prevent oral thrush in bubs.

do we pay this for interstate fligths too?

what are you planning to take (pram??, carseat ??etc) and do you know any tips for flying with babies??
some one mentioned dummy for the landing and take off, thanks, i will remember that for when we are flying.
I am taking only the sling, MIL and SIL will be coming with us, so Imigth get them to carry the baby for a little while too. hmmmm maybe a stroller too if DD is sitting by then, (going end of summer)

I was surprised to get my lum sum now, I thought I had to wait till end of financial year to get it. yay, it can earn interest till then:smiliedance:.

I am trying to set a routine for DD but Ihave to wean her off dummy and get her to suck her hand, so she can sooth herself in the middle of the nigth, any ideas how I can encourage her to suck her hand?

Morning all

We've had a pretty rough night here, so I'm going back to bed in a bit. Just thought I'd post a few replies...

Miss mack- Congrats on your beautiful surprise! Nice to have you back. Please try to make the sydney outing! Speaking of which, who would like to take on organising it? I am dying for some good adult contact.

Dummies- all of my chldren only took the cherry-shaped ones. I tried every shape and size, but they loved the traditional ones, either the happy baby brand or tommee tippee.

Mrs Potts- how did your 6 week check go? Hope everything is well with you and bubs.

Re waiting until 6 weeks to resume 'relations' ... I am dreading it! I have zero libido at the moment and can't imagine any change for a long time yet. Plus, like you shed, I am pretrified of getting preggers again. What to do?

Shed, did you get Baden weighed? He's looking really healthy so I'm sure he's gained loads already! Mine has outgrown so much of his clothes already that i'm gonna need to go shopping for some new stuff soon. I still have lots of stuff from Thomas but he was a summer baby so all the 000 and 00 stuff that I have are summer clothes and its still a little cold for shorts and t shirts.

AlliJB- hope you were able to avoid mastitis. The heated wheat pack and massage worked a treat for me, so I luckily managed to escape it this time!

Uniquey- Hi! Long time no see/hear!

Jessi-:shame: Hope my DH doesn't read your post or I'm in trouble.

lilpickle- 477 dollars?!!!! That's highway robbery!

Paris- I personally wouldn't recommend hand/thumb sucking. I've seen 4 and 5 yr olds who still do that and they've got severe issues with their teeth. My lilttle neice needs braces to correct her overbite. But that's just my opinion. At least the dummy you can control. I always stop using it when their teeth start cutting through. Anyways, good luck with what you decide.

Ok, I'm off for a nap then I'm hitting the shops. Have a good one!

I have worked out that somehting isnt right though... DD feeds ALL day and all night so she should be well and truley gaining weight by now. I worked gout yesterday tat Im not supplying enough milk:crying: so now DD has formula. Im going to the Dr this arvi to get tablets to help with the milk supply so :fingerscrossed: it works.. I really want to keep B/F

Ok DD is now screaming:rolleyes: so Im off... have a good day everyone

morning all

before you read this ..... i'm not commenting on anyone here, just myself. i really hope no one takes offence to this post because it's not intended as a judgement on anyone else, it's just a sad mummy vent,

well last night we gave bella a dummy for the first time. i really don't have a problem with dummies or other people using them, but for some reason when i gave it to my daughter i felt like a bit of a failure as a mummy :gloomy: i felt like a failure because i couldn't settle her so when she settled with the dummy it just felt really yucky. i mean fair enough i was VERY tired so the situation probably was magnified by my tiredness-and-therefore-teariness .... it just felt really weird.
she woke 2 hours later, i went in and the dummy was next to her on the bed and i put it back in her mouth and she went back to sleep ........... i don't know why this makes me so sad but it really does.
on the positive side she went to sleep this morning and then just now without it ... i just don't want her to become dependant on it but i also don't want us to just put it in her mouth anytime she's a little bit sad ...

i just feel like i should have been able to fix whatever was wrong without reaching for something external to stop her crying. we've worked really hard so far to settle her to sleep without using anything like the car or rocking her to sleep ... we do rock her but have tried to put her down while she is still a little awake so she doesn't wake after 5 minutes and cry cause we're not still there with her.

i hope no one has taken offence to this ....................... i just really needed to vent.

Mama Anne- Dont be so hard on yourself. I personally am not a big fan of dummies but DS is a born thumb sucker even did it in utero and has BIG wind issues. Despite my wishes I too have had to accept that sometimes James needs a dummy. Im grateful he spits it when he is finished and I dont let him sleep with one in his mouth unless being watched... and often I will pull it when I go to sleep. If it makes your bubba happy and content how can you be a failure?? As for the rocking they generally recommend it as it copies what they were use to in the womb.
Regardless of what you decide just remember you are doing this all for bubbas benefit nobody likes to hear their baby cry and no bubba wants a tired and cranky Mummy from lack of sleep. Cyber hugs :hugs:

Mamaanne - I agree with Missiemack totally. Not that I don't know what you mean though. I too felt like a slight failure when I had to relent and give Ollie a dummy at around 2 weeks old. He doesn't really love it, but it does save us in times of trouble, like when we are grocery shopping or going for a walk and I can't just whip out a boob to feed him.

I don't really have any routines going at all with Oliver, he just feeds when he wants and that seems to really vary depending on the day. He sleeps really well, usually for around 4 hour blocks during the day and 3 hour blocks at night. Some nights he sleeps longer.. I feel really lucky in that I don't have any boob issues, except that they are a bit tender and sore, but I think relatively normal.

Just a quick catch up to say hi as I have been missing in action for a while.

Take care all

Re: the dummy. I honestly don't believe this is something a mother can decide, its something the BABY decides. You get what you get. Some babies need the dummy, some don't. Its not a parenting decision, its the baby's decision and its your job as a mother to give the baby what they need. That's the way I see it. If you are doing this then you are doing your job. The finer details are just the finer details.

I also don't know that you can get them to suck their hand if they don't do it naturally. I think they come out with that predisposition also. Bubby sucks his fist when he is really tired, I believe he came out with that habit, I am sure he was doing it in the womb.

There's no room for guilt if you look at it this way. We gave bubby the dummy and he got a bit of nipple confusion and wouldn't feed properly so we took it away again, but I had to sit with him on the couch patting his bum, for the whole day. Obviously I can't do this every single day, so the dummy still comes out on occasion, its a matter of only using it when really necessary and not just to shut him up. So it only gets used then.

Raffee: nah, I didn't go and get him weighed in the end! Might take him tomorrow. I am so lazy. I did get him dressed to go into town, and then I just couldn't be bothered!! He's a heffalump, he is stacking on the pounds allright. He's got little rolls on his legs.

Littlepickle: I took a look at Elise's website. She's so cute. I had to laugh at the girly girly GIRLY way you dress her. You got the right baby, glad we didn't have to swap in the end. Baden is always dressed SO boyish, in little trousers and tops with tractors and cars and things on them. I love dressing him each day, its better than playing Barbies.

Ourbump: we have absolutely no routine either. We get up in the morning at some point, we go to bed at night at some point, we bathe or shower during these two things and that's about as scheduled as it gets. Just before 5pm I do a massive clean up before DP gets home. That's the only thing that is run by the clock.

I didn't do the clean up the other day and he got home and said the place looked like a bomb went off. I told him I was glad he noticed because I clean every day and now he knows what I clean up.

Although, its all my mess anyway, to be honest, ha ha.

I still havent sent away for Baden's passport. This morning I sort of realised that it might be because I don't want to take my baby over there at all. As you guys know I don't really get along with my mum and I think I don't want to take my beautiful baby over there to get 'contaminated'. He's so beautiful and wanted and loved and I don't recall ever feeling any of those things when I was a kid. Its like I feel like she might somehow make him feel the way I always felt.

Oh, I dunno. I have definitely been putting it off though. I will go there eventually. In my own time.

Raffee, thanks for thinking of me. Our 6 week check up went fine. I've had a couple of issues, but my Ob wasn't concerned so it's all good. He checked DD's heart and hips which were fine, but he didn't weigh or measure, so I'll still have to take her to the clinic. Will try to get to the drop in one next week (otherwise, it's booked over a month in advance!). She's growing out of her 0000's though, so I'm confident that she's putting on weight. And she sleeps well so I know she's content.

She'll get her first interstate trip on Monday too. My grandmother passed away yesterday so we'll be driving to Sydney for the funeral. I'm hoping she travels as well as DS always has. Only time will tell!

Darn... just got dragged away to feed bub and have dinner and now I can't remember what else I was going to say :banghead: Sorry! Hope everyone is doing well anyway!

just a quick post .... friends are coming over for dinner (bringing dinner with them!) and they should be here in about ten minutes ......... we'll see how long i last before dd cries/needs to be fed/or i need to go to sleep!

thanks for all the replies re the whole dummy debacle. i'm a bit torn what to do really .... dd has sucked her hands since birth (and also while she was inside me, weve got the ultrasound piccies to prove it!) and so the settling thing is a catch 22 ... if she wants to suck her hands she worms her way out of her wrap, but then wakes herself up with the whole startle reflex if her hands are unwrapped.

ah well. i'm sure we'll figure out what to do ... i think part of the dummy stress for me is that i don't know what to do with it/how to gve it to her. do i leave it in when she's sleeping? do i wait in the room till she falls asleep and then take it out?

anyway thanks for listening.

re the next sydney meet - i'd love to come, not so sure about the organising of it because i don't really know any child-friendly places in sydney yet .... apart from the shopping centre down the road from my house!

weighing babies - i'm not sure when dd needs to be weighed next .... i could go to a dropin at the health centre i suppose. she's a champion wee-er/pooer and is generally happy though so i'm not too worried about if she's putting on enough weight. would be nice to know though .... has anyone done the hop on the scales with bub / hop on without bub for a rough guesstimate? if i had scales at my house i would be doing this.

not sure if its still on but yesterday target was having a sale on women's clothing and maternity bras were 40% off - just thought i'd pass on the info. i bought two, and also a red dress .... i have NO idea where i'll wear it but maybe i'll just put it on one day when i need a pick-me-up

mrs potts - i was sad to hear about your grandmother :hugs: i hope the travelling goes well for you all.

well i think i hear my friends. hope everyone has a good night

... if she wants to suck her hands she worms her way out of her wrap, but then wakes herself up with the whole startle reflex if her hands are unwrapped.

The MCHN tought us, this style of swaddle called "angle" style, basically, you get a rectangular wrap, fold the top put the bub on it like a normal one, except, when you are tucking the arms under the fold, they are semi flex (fetal position???) then you pull it to the side a bit further down then normal, so when you are done, bub has its arms semi bended sticking out the sides, with the hand being fairly close to the face it looks like bub has wings, which is why they call it "angel". she said, in this way the bubs can move its arms bit, and can also suck her hand through the cloth, as long as the cloth does not give out fluffs, it is fine. ask your MCHN or PM if I did not explain it well:o

Mrs Potts I am so sorry for your loss, hope you have a easy trip with DD

honestly don't believe this is something a mother can decide, its something the BABY decides. You get what you get. Some babies need the dummy, some don't 100% agree.mind you I am so bad use a alot, it is teh only thing saving my sanity

Hello all

Raffee - How are you going with your Mastitis? Did the naturaly remedies work?

Noosamum - Thank you for your lovely comment about my Avatar...yes I agree Chloe is devine hee hee

Mrs Potts - So happy to hear that your check up went well...how are you feeling...with your PND I mean :hugs: Sorry to hear about your Gran

Shed - YAY on your 1st smiles...it is the best feeling isn't it....you sound like you are enjoying being a mum so much...I am so happy to hear

Missiemack - Congrats on the arrival of James

LP - Happy to hear Elises appt went well....Wow overseas trip hey? You must be excited

Pariskamali - How did the hand/foot sculpture go

Uniquiey - Happy to hear you and avalon are doing well

Adele - How did the Dr appt go?

Mama anne - :hugs: agree with the other replies...You have to do what makes you bub happy....a unsettle bub means an unsettled mama which makes bubs worse

Me - I am doing really well. DH started back to work on Thursday and am having a little trouble trying to convince Chloe that I cannot carry her around ALL day. She is good at night and I can settle her and put her straight to bed (most times) but during the day she just wants to be cuddled all of the time...her Daddy has spoilt her....most of the time I could just hold her all day...but then the nappies would not get washed etc etc.
She had her check up on Wednesday and the Dr was very happy...she is 4.06kg so averaging 200g per week...so must be doing Ok with the BF if that is happening. Am not having any major issues other then Nappy Rash...she has had to bouts of it in a fortnight soooo not too sure why but will ask the Dr on Tuesday when I go for my 6 week check up.
I don't believe that there is a thing as TMI with in our group now after all that we have shared........Is any one else really constipated? I am having so much trouble going to the loo and when I finally go it really hurts.....I was taking Metamusal (orange) but think maybe that it is burning Chloes bum a litlle but will check with thte Dr on tuesday
Anyway gonna go and have some lunch and try and have nap while she is down...no doubt she will wake up the minute I put my head down

 to anyone that I have missed

I ended up shoving a dummy in Elshas mouth this morning... She has been giving me 3hours MAX sleep a night (and I dont seem to get any during the day either) and she just would not settle today... shes a HUGE comfort sucker on the boobs, and if I didnt give the dummy to her, she'd easily spend the WHOLE day attach to my chest.
I know that when DF comes home, hes going to be ****ed off as we both decided we didnt want to give her a dummy, but if he comments- the only thing I can say to him is that, hes not the one getting up to her during the night and having to try settle her all the time. He really has no idea what I am dealing with... actually, hes become quiet oblivious to most things- where's the man that was in the delivery room with me??

The midwife came and visited us too the other day and she said that Elsha has put on half a kilo already!!! (Thats how much she is on my boobs!!) Plus she has grown 6cms... LOL... Shes turning into such a chubber!

Jessi  - do what you have to do.
With my first baby, I was listening far too much to people telling me "what I should be doing/feeling" etc and not enough to my baby.
I tied myself in knots trying to do what everyone told me I should be doing - "no NO dummy, 4 hr feeds, not before!! , no co-sleeping, it's dangerous etc") And - I watched the clock, far more than I watched my baby.
My bub was far too over stimulated (have to say though, he turned out ok!!, he's 9 now!!) and I didn't do what I needed to do, I did what everyone else told me I needed to do.

All I needed to do really, was listen to my baby, he was telling me what he needed, but I needed to listen to HIM, not everyone else.

This is my third baby and I am a shell of my former self - you would be hard pressed to find a more relaxed mother and I don't listen to anyone but my baby girl. If she needs a boob and *shock horror*, it's only an hour since the last feed, so be it.
If Elsha needs a dummy, well Elsha needs a dummy and your DP isn't in the firing line (terrible choice of words but I couldn't find better) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So don't beat yourself up about it, just be the best mummy you can be, which is EXACTLY what you are doing.

morning all

typing this lefthanded while dd is feeding so excuse any sp mistakes

we've had an ok night, fed at 10pm, then 3;30pm, then now (6:50am) ... dh and i have to leave the house at 8:45am to go to church so do i go back to bed for an hour or not even of sleep? decisions decisions

paris thanks for the wrapping advice ... she gets wrapped kindof similar to this, if she cant get her hands out she just sucks them through the wrap. whichmakes me feel better about the dummy cause clearly she has a need to suck something so if its not a dummy it would b something else

tash the only suggestionsi can make (given to me from beany when doing any kind ofpoo was a traumatic experience) - liquorice, dried apricots and (my suggestion) wholegrain foods - tiptop 9 grain bread, porridge .... hope that hlps

Morning Mummies. :D

Does anyone with two bubs feel like they're permanently in the overtaking lane? I didn't realise how full on it is with a toddler and baby - especially when they're both screaming at the same time. aaagh, it's a toss up which one to go to first. I'm sure it will all settle down soon, but I guess the sleep deprivation makes it all a bit tough in the early days.

Does anyone elses bub hate being wrapped? I have tried wrapping (and a dummy) but neither work - she just gets hysterical. So I just tuck a blanket around her and her arms wave around like a helicopter. It makes it hard for her to settle though.

OK, better do stuff. They're only quick visits here these days. Oh, and a big :yelclap: to you all for being wonderful caring mums, especially on the difficult days.

Hello

Thanks Mamaanne...will give it all a go. I think I will be forced to go grocery shopping tomorrow to get some healthier items..DH's day off so will make him come to heehee

Wattle - You guys are definately super mums having toddlers to look after as well...I could not imagine having to run after little ones and look after Chloe. Chloe is the same and hates being wrapped up...if her hands are not free then she is not a happy bub...she has hated her arms being wrapped up since she was first born..

Anyway she has just woken up and realised she wasn't being held...gotta run

Hehe tashmusa, I wonder how raffee does it with 5 kids  I guess it's just a matter of doing the best you can. Sometimes I don't think I'd be in the running for 'Mother of the Year Award' , but as long as I'm doing the best I can, that's all that matters.

Took ds out this morning to look for a new pair of shoes and have some mum/son time. Oh dear, tantrum city. They definately put it on for mums don't they! He is as good as gold for his grandparents  . Oh well, I keep thinking the time will fly by and soon he'll be a grumpy teenager so I really must enjoy it all now.

...

*yawn*

Where was I?

Oh yes!

*yawn*

Bloody hell this is hard work! Why Am I more willing to sleep than he is? Silly boy. Sleep, please, for the love of purple SLEEP!

He woke up at 5:30am for a feed. Was on the boobies until 6:30 ... Gave up in agony after that, poked a very grumpy Noodle and got him to give the baby a bottle while I writhed in pain a bit. I only expected Asher to drink about 30mls, just a little to settle him, top up the booby juice. HAH! Drank a whole 120mls, and finally went to sleep. For half an hour. Woke up, burped a little, went back to sleep (it was now 7:30am) for a few minutes until I put him in his cot. Grizzled, opened an eye (yes, just the one, cheeky runt) and yelled at me. Demanded a booby. Got a booby. Slept for 2 hours ...

9:30am. Woke up. Wet nappy - fair enough. Changed him and foolishly tried to put him back to bed. Silly mummy, he screams, bed without booby? I think not.

Out they come again. And he remained on them, on and off, until about 2:30pm. Every time I tried to put him down, something would happen: wet nappy, dirty nappy, burp, fart, donks himself on the head because he's wriggled free of his wrap ...

I'm almost looking back with a sense of yearning to the sleeplessness of pregnancy. Almost but not quite. The pain remains fresh in the head, still :D

*yawn*

And there he goes again.

*sigh*

Morning august mummies ,

Just had Clio weighed - she weighs 5.2kg!!! What a little fatty boomba. Definitely has her mother's legs too, poor thing

She is 5 weeks old today and is a really "smiley" baby, I just can't believe how fast it is going though - I look at all these milestones (like smiling) with different eyes this time around.
I think she's growing up way too fast , can't believe 5 weeks ago today, I was giving birth and now such a short time later, I have this smiley, interactive little person watching me! I wonder (like now as she's watching me type this), what is she thinking, she looks so wise?? , actually probably nothing too profound, more likely to be something like, "hey, where's the boob!!??".

Keep well August Mums,

Oh I don't know, a bit of diarrhoea still gets me pretty excited. The constipation and hemorrhoids remain fresh in my mind too :p

Back to the TMI-ness that is the usual Beany way ... Anyone else getting an achy vagina? It's not that it actively hurts, as such, just feels ... overused, I suppose. Like when you overwork a muscle during a workout (hark at me! Like I'd even know what a "workout" is!).

I'm sort of assuming it's the episiotomy healing up and the muscles knitting themselves together or something but, as pulled that explanation out of my out sleep-deprived and rather cotton-woolly head, I'm not sure how accurate it is.

In nutty in-laws news, my mother-in-law gave me a little romper suit for Asher recently. It was lovely - a designer one (Ralph Lauren) that she was enthusing over because she got it at such a cheap, knock-down price. Lovely! Except, you know, that it's PINK!

Good lord. :banghead:

And my sister-in-law called from Cairns yesterday for a chat and a catch up. After she very worriedly informed me that people would likely be calling Asher "Ash" for short (um ... okay. Is "Ash" a rude word up there or something?), she told me off for "letting" the baby wee on himself. Letting?!

I told her all the other things I let him do, too. Like I let him poo all over the change mat. And let him kick around so much that I let his foot slip out of my hands and kick into the poo. And then I let him kick me and let him get the poo on me. And then ... I didn't get a chance to carry on past this point. She made me stop. :D

Oh the constipation question a while back (why am I constantly going on about poo?) ... I had constipation after leaving the hospital and ate a lot of prunes and dried apricots to help that situation. Lately, since the dreaded thrush issue, I've been taking pro-biotic pills and they seem to be doing the job without the prunes.

And on that poo-y note, off I go! Take care all! Hope all is going well!

hi guys,...just a quick one from me today,....... I have a 'booby baby' atm,....just wants to suck all the time - but only on my left breast,..has a meltdown when I put him on the other side! which is a pity cause I have a severe infection in the left one (his fave) and am on some pretty serious antibiotics,...ouch! On the upside, Jasper slept 8 hours straight the night before last! I kept on getting up to check on him!

So what's everyone wearing???

I can't/won't give up my YIM jeans, they are just so comfy (I can get into my normal jeans now but these YIM ones are just so comfy and for what I paid, I'm happy to get a bit more wear out of them), but I'm wondering now if people are recognising them as being a maternity jean and pitying me for still wearing maternity clothes??? Maybe I should sell them on Ebay?? Or do I have too much time on my hands and people don't really care what I'm wearing :o

Oh dear, I think I do have too much time on my hands, I'm lurking on bubhub far too much!

Hi All,

Kylie here (previously known as readytopush). I can't beleive you have all managed to continue posting on here so often. I commend you all. I have barely managed to get out of my pyjamas to have a shower each day :(

Well we are finally in some sort of better sleeping pattern with Georgia, the visitors of died off, and hubby is on a rare day off at the momet so i thought i would quickly check in and say HI!!! I have mised chatting to you all and hope you are all well. Sounds like everyone is having just as much fun from the posts i have managed to read. it took me forever to find everyone here as i went to the old August thread and thought you had all dropped off the face of the earth

I look forward to trying to catch up slowly with what you have all been doing (sorry, i will have to start from this point forward as wont manage to backtrack now) and cant wait to share more of our experiences together.

Congratulations to you all and the safe arrivals of your bundles of joy.

Every smile makes every tough day worth while :D

Hugs and kisses to you all. :hugs:

Hi everyone! Hi Kylie - glad you found us!

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well, albeit exhausted and stressed about one thing or another ;)

Thanks everyone for the thoughts re my grandma. The funeral was draining, but nice. After only losing my grandfather (her hubby) a few months ago, this one was very final and far more painful I think. But they both had great long lives, so onto the future!

Dd travelled pretty well. We drove up and back to Sydney (from Canberra) in the one day, so on the way home she was getting a bit cranky. But we were all tired so who could blame her?

Tash - thanks for thinking of me. I seem to be doing OK. The PND seems to be staying away, though I do have up and down days so who can tell. Most of the time I'm feeling pretty good though so :fingerscrossed: it won't come back.

Darn, gotta run - someone's waking up. They have incredible radars don't they? LOL

Take care everyone! :hugs: to all!

Wattle - WOW did not realise Raffee has 5 kids.....gee whizz don't know how she does it - my DH informed me tonight he would like 10....well well well he is in for a shock if he thinks I am agreeing hee hee

Beany - Sorry can't help with your achey Vag.... ....Can't believe your MIL bought Asher pink...WHAT THE...but then there are still those people around that would ask you what sex the bub is even though it is flaming obvious

Mama anne -

Noosamum - I am wearing the same pants around the house but when and bought myself a cheap pair of demim shorts and jeans to wear out..I did not want to spend a lot cause did not know if I was going to stay the same size of lose a bit more but was just sick of wearing my materiny clothes...anyway who cares if people notice you are wearing your old maternity pants..as long as you are comfy is all that matters

Jane - OUCH...you sound like you are having some trouble with your boobs...at least you are on the antibiotics

Kylie -

Mrs Potts - You are very welcome..at least this time around you know the symptoms and can get help in the early days with PND....Funerals are never nice especially when they are someone close :hugs:

Me - Well I had my six week check up today...my DH was very happy hee hee. I work at the Doctors where I had my check up and they were all happy to hold her while I saw the Dr...they all want me to go back to work and bring her with me...Yeah right...no thank you, I am enjoying being a mum too much.
Nothing exciting happening this way...WASHING, FEEDING, SLEEPING, FEEDING, COOKING, FEEDING etc etc...basically that is my day.
Is anyone else got a cuddly bub...Chloe does not like to be put down and during the day and up until the last feed at night she wakes up when I put her down..does anyone have anytips on how I can get her to settle down on her own etc etc. ANy ideas would be greta. Well gotta go and clean up after dinner..

Take care

Mrs Potts

Tash, glad the check up went well. RE settling Chloe, at 6 weeks she is old enough to do some controlled comforting if you're comfortable with it. Have to say even though DD is really good at settling herself, she still has moments where she needs a bit of help and we've already found it to work wonders.

If CC isn't for you, then you might be stuck with a cuddle bug for a while! :)

Hi All

Well it seems my sweet little James has come down to earth and has spent the afternoon screaming and demanding to be fed and fed and fed and fed. Sadly I wish I had Beanys prob with the demands for booby juice but my cheeky chops doesnt seem to excited by mine
Ive been on Motilium now for a couple of days which seems to be improving my milk supply but Im not quite up to scratch yet and I am subbing with formula. I dont really like using the formula as it makes him do BIG stinky poos where when he is majority breast fed the poos are less frequent and smaller. BF he has less issues with wind and sometimes the formula likes to revisit us. Is anyone else experiencing similar with using the formula??

Noosamum- I am still in a lot of my maternity clothing. Tops arent too bad mostly the pants but I notice the difference in my fluid daily. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I might almost be back in my Levi's

Beany- Achy Vagina??? What the?? Could it be your uterus contracting still?? Do you feel it more while or just after BF??

Mrs Potts- Make sure you take care of you with the death of your Grandma. The emotional effects play havoc with your body in general after having a baby and can (in my experience) effect your milk supply. If you notice this see your GP as there are tablets you can take but you need to take them quickly. None of the midi's mentioned these tablets despite my concerns with milk supply/ BF. I heard about them from a relo!!

Anyhow my monster has awoken again..... I hope my sweet angel baby comes back tommorrow.....

Hi Everyone. Gee, it almost seems impossible to find a minute a second to read everyones posts and reply these days. Luckily dh is on holidays at the moment (he's a teacher) because my beautiful little girl has colic. :( She spent 24 hours screaming and writhing in pain, it was almost too much to bear. I ended up back at the chemist and bought Bauers Colic relief and finally it settled her down. Phew. Now she is catching up on some very well earned rest.

Jane - I see a chiro that specialises in babies, and he said that if they prefer feeding on only one side it can be a sign that they have a sore neck that may be out of alignment. Maybe a little shoulder/neck massage might help Jasper a bit to start with?

I'm pretty wrapped to say that I have thrown out all my pregnancy clothes and most of the ones I was wearing before I got pregnant because they're all too big!:smiliedance: Sorry, I know you're all probably stabbing the computer screen out of jealousy, but really it's because I lost 10kg's from chronic morning sickness. At least all that throwing up and feeling foul for months on end now has some benefit. Oh yeah, and the gestational diabetes helped too - it's hard to gain weight when you're just living on tiny rabbit food meals.

Ok... back to sleep now. Night everyone. Hope your bubs are all sleeping peacefully.

Just a quickie from me - forgive the lack of personals. I'll add them if someone doesn't wake up :)

Having a lousy couple of days - boob-hugger hasn't been sleeping much and thus nor have I :gloomy: I try taking the "seep when he sleeps" advice that is commonly given to new mums but there's a slight problem with that - as soon as I begin to nod off, he wakes up and grumbles.

He's been waking for a feed pretty much every 60-90mins, feeding for about 15-20mins and then nodding off on the boob. Am I just falling into the "topping him up" trap? It doesn't seem like he's feeding long enough and so is constantly waking up for a snack rather than going for a full meal ... How long should they be feeding for at this stage?

And there he begins. Take care everyone, hope you are all faring better than I am at the moment!

Mrs Potts
20-09-2006, 11:48
Missie Mack - thanks for the milk supply advice, but DD is bottle fed so that's one thing I don't need to worry about. :hugs: for the thought though!

Beany - hope you can get some rest soon. It does sound like your little guy has figured out how to snack though. I don't have a clue about breast feeding since I've not done it for any period of time, but can you stretch his feeds out a little? Eg if he wakes after 90 minutes, wait another 15 minutes before you feed him. Then next feed stretch a little further and so on. I know this works with bottles, but maybe someone else can advise if it works with boobies too.

mama anne - glad you're enjoying mum's group. I was a bit the same as you with DS. I didn't go to mum's group til he was several months old, but we did have a good time when we went in the end. It sounds like your DD is doing well too.

Wattle - sorry to hear about DD's colic. It can be heartbreaking to see them so distressed. Hopefully the Bauers keeps it under control for all of you.

Clothes- still in maternity pants here too. I'm back in normal tops though. I need to start getting stuck into some exercise, especially some abdo work. I'm not planning on looking like Cindy Crawford, but I'd be happy to fit into normal jeans again...

Things are still going along nicely for us here. I'm sure DD isn't drinking her advised quota of formula, but I'm not stressing about it. She's happy and content and growing so all is good!

Well we have reached the 6 week mark and we are still going strong with the Breast Feeding. Had DS weighed yesterday and he is 5.3kg...he is thriving...after my Breast Feeding dramas last time I think that this is a bit of a milestone :) He is also 60cms long (which is in the 90% percentile for his age) Going to be tall like his daddy I think!!

Having some sleep issues however, went to the child health nurse yesterday just for some advice on routines for a 6 week old...I have decided to impliment a little bit of controlled settling and making his life a bit more structured. Trying to feed (around 15 mins each side) with burping between and a nappy change, play (around 10 - 20 mins) I try to put him down on his play mat so his is not too attched to me, and when he shows tired signs, sleep as long as he wants...I swaddle him and put his in is cot to self settle, I pat him until he stops crying then leave him, if he crys again I wait a few minutes to see if he settles and then go back and pat again etc, etc. Due to his size I think that he is too big for his bassinette and was hitting his arms on the side so as of yesterday he is in his cot...so far seems to be working a bit better. I just cannot have a baby in my arms all the time as my DD needs attention also.

I guess just like everyone we have some rough days were mummy ends up in tears and needs some love an attention from DH and some days were everything seems to be OK (today is the latter I think)

We have all had a cold..I think that DD picked it up from Playgroup and gave it to me and then I gave it to DS. I have been using those saline drops to clear his nose a little for better feeding and sleeping.

As for clothing there are only about 3 things on my wardrobe that fit me...I am about 5 kgs heavier then before:eek: So jealous of all you women that have actually lost weight.

Jane - I feel for you as I have been there. Mastitis is sooooo painful...just keep on top of it with antibiotics, trust me you don't want an abcess.

Beany - I feel for you too...the child health nurse said to me yesterday that a 6 week old should not been feeding any more than 2 hours apart and yep I would be making sure that he has both sides, particulary at night time so you get a bit more shuteye..having said that he might just be going through a growth spurt also (it is so hard isn't it?) These boys seem to be a bit booby obcessed:rolleyes:

Cheers for now.

Hello everyone,
I had all good intentions of keeping up with post post-baby but that hasn't been the case!! You gals sure do talk!! I haven't had a chance to go back to previous posts but thought I'd give you an update.

Well, Caleb is now 6 weeks old and has gone through a major growing spurt. He's been putting on over twice as much as normal in one week!! As if this isn't enough for my poor boobs to handle, I ended up in Emergency the other morning as I was feverish and couldn't walk or do much at all as my boobs were so heavy and sore and had excrutiating pains shooting through them. They had been sore the past few days but I tried to keep feeding and massage out any lumps.

Anyway after hours waiting in hospital I was diagnosed with mastitis and am now on antibiotics. Have had to give bubs formula when I can't feed or express enough which I was sad about but am now trying not to get too used to!!! I know why some people give up on breastfeeding!! I am trying to keep going though...

Plus to top it all off Caleb has colic so has been really cranky. Luckily my MIL and SIL have been over to help out every few days which is good because even carrying him was painful. Thank goodness for pain killers!!!

Well, thats all from me. Pretty depressing really. Having said that I am still enjoying being a mummy but just not the feeding side!! Caleb did a *real* smile for the first time yesterday :D It was amazing!! Would have been even more amazing if it had been directed at ME - but it was at my grandfather which was nice too.

Must go, will try to keep up a bit more!!! big hugs to all mummies :hugs:

Morning August Mummies

Clio has just slept through the night for the fifth night in a row (9pm - 6am, and asleep again now) but she is probably lulling me into a false sense of security and next week we'll be up all night every night!

Nice to see some of the MIA August Mums posting again!!! I wonder if all is well with my3sons, adele, and some of the others who haven't posted for a while

Well this is just a quickie, I have a house to clean :( before Miss C wakes up and then we need to go shopping for a wedding outfit for me (blerk, much rather buy something for Miss C!).

morning all :)

well even though i'm sitting here eating chocolatefreckles for breakfast yawning my head off .... we had a good night last night! dd fed at 10pm, then at 3:50am, then 7am this morning ... i feel almost human! almost :D

glad to hear from those who have been missing in action, dont worry about trying to catch up, just dive right in with the convo.

I guess just like everyone we have some rough days were mummy ends up in tears and needs some love an attention from DH and some days were everything seems to be OK (today is the latter I think)
this really resonated with me ... and i only have one bub! i really don't know how you ladies with more than one do it - you really are supermums (and i don't mean that in a throwaway way, i really truly think you are doing an awesome job).

bella8 :hugs: big hugs to you with the mastitis and colic dramas. i'm still on my course of antibiotics after my little bout with the dreaded M-word ... you're doing a great job feeding when you can, when it doesn't hurt too much one thing i've found to be really good is changing feeding positions (we only have two positions in our reportoire but a change is a change!) so bubs chin is over/in the direction of the lump from the nipple ....hope that helps but just keep taking the pills!

noosamumhope the wedding outfit shopping is successful! i'm being a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding in dec ... REALLY not looking forward to dress shopping/fittings. i hope you find something that makes you feel beautiful

beany :( hugs your way again ... hope the boob-hugger gives your boobies (and you!) some rest .... in terms of falling asleep at the boob it depends on your feeding routine (if thats such a thing) but things i've found with dd that helps try to prevent them falling asleep are .... burping halfway through, nappy change halfway through, playing with ears/hair/feet/hands, blowing on her face ..... don't know if any of that helps but thought i'd share

Hi girls,

I got Baden weighed last week and he was 5.3kgs. He is packing on the beef and looking really hale and hearty.

After his smile last week I got all excited, but we haven't had too many since. He certainly isn't a "smiley" baby at this point. He does smile but he doesn't give them away for free, if you want one you have to work for it. I do all these things to try and make him smile and he just looks at me with a bored look on his face. Makes me feel like a bit of a knob!

We know a little baby who was born two days after bubby and she is so smiley and giggly. Our boy is a bit more stingey with his favours, but that might change, who knows?

I have to go back to the baby clinic today to pick up my blue book which I left there. Honestly, my memory is shot to pieces. I forget the most basic things at the moment, its very frustrating.

I am still in my maternity clothes. We have a christening to go to on Saturday (for the smiley baby mentioned above) and I am going to look just AWFUL. I have thrown an outfit together but shopping for me is so boring, I only want to buy clothes for bubby. He's the best dressed in this house by a long shot.

I joined the gym the other day but haven't been yet. The other day I was feeling very fat. I think its because I felt fine during the six weeks post-baby because I "had just had a baby", but now that the six weeks is up I just feel fat. I said to DP "do you still find me attractive?" and he got that deer-in-headlights look on his face and went "yeah, of course I do".

hmm...whatever.

snuffle snuffle, the boss is calling...

Morning all!

So many posts to catch up on, but I've managed it!

Adele- Hope things are looking up for you and that Skyla is starting to gain lots of weight. Hope to see you on here more often. :hugs:

Mama Anne- Don't worry about giving bella a dummy- it doesn't make you any less of a mother! Looking forward to meeting you at the August sydney mummy meet! Oh and what's this mothers group you speak of? I would really like to join one but haven't gotten around to finding one.

Ourbump- Glad to hear that things are going well for you and Ollie.

Mrs Potts- so sorry for your loss. Its good to hear that the funeral wasn't too stressful for you and your family.

Paris- Hi!

Tash - yeah I managed to escape mastitis thank goodness - the wheatpack worked a treat. I'm glad that you're 6 week check went well. Oh and I too am constipated....:( (sorry for the TMI!)

Your hubby wants 10?!?! Is he alright or have you been protecting him from the harsh realities of child rearing. Maybe he could try taking over the night shifts for the next few weeks. That'll set him straight!

Wattle - Congrats on shedding those maternity clothes. I hope that you're well. Regarding more than one child, It isn't easy, I know, but it's not impossible either. You will look back on this time with only the fondest memories. Don't be too hard on yourself - you're a great Mum! Regarding the wrapping, Eamonn isn't a fan either. I generally only wrap him when putting him to bed of an evening. Even then he occasionally struggles until he frees his arms.

Beanie - what a beautiful bubba Asher is! Hope you have a better couple of days and that your little one settles for you. I know what you mean by achey vagina but I think it is an episiotomy thing. I hope that everything heals up soon...

Jane - Owwwwwww!!!!! Hope the golf ball is subsiding quickly you poor woman! And yeah, I've got 5 children - 6 if you caount my step-daughter!

Gigi's mummy - welcome back - it's so good to see you again. Don't stress about not having time for Bubhub. We all have our good days and our bad days, but we're here for you anytime you want to talk.

Bella - sorry to hear about your mastitis - hope you're feeling better soon. Good luck with the settling issues.

Alli - Hugs. Take it easy and don't stress too much.

Miss Mak - I think your bubba is having a growth spurt. Ride the wave and you'll be fine.

Lilbug - yay on your bub's weight gain. Good luck with the controlled settling, and keep us updated.

Noosamum- what a champ clio is! Sleeping through the night 5 nights in a row!!!! Have fun cleaning- I've been putting mine off all morning!

Now, my update is that bub has had a cold. The poor lil cherub can't breathe or feed properly because he's constantly gasping for air. He's not used to breathing through his mouth. I'm using the fess drops before feeds but its not that helpful. I'm hoping the worst is over and that he'll be feeling better real soon.

I on the other hand have been quite emotional these last few days but I'm trying not to reflect too much on everything. If I keep myself busy I can usually cope with it a lot better. Looking forward to the weekend, and some well-earned r&r...

Ok, bub's had enough with being patient... I gotta run!

Aaaw thanks Shed:D I agree ... of course!! I love the photos of Baden! Especially the current one, he looks soo cute!! Oh, and I love the boyish clothes too. Yanno, before I was pregnant I always wanted to have a baby boy as I always preferred boys clothes. When I was little I was a real tomboy and it wasnt until I discovered "boys" and makeup that I went all GIRLY! But I am really having fun (as you can see) buying loads of little girly things for her to wear. Of course, she will probably grow up to be a real tomboy and hate m for all of the pink things I dressed her in.. but its like a motherly licence really, just has to be done, and just incase she is a little tomboy, I have to make sure I get my fix of girlyness now before she gets a fashion sense of her own:p But IF and thats still a big "IF" I have another bub, I would love to have a boy! oh, btw, i love Baden's hair! Like Elise, he also has lots of it! At this rate, she will be in pigtails by 3 months!! Actually, she has a bit too much hair .. its still on her shoulders! Althought the pediatrician assures me that this will go in the next few weeks .. what if she doesnt!!!

On another note, I took Eli for her vaccinations today .. she had 3 injections!!! I was soo nervous, that I made DH take the morning off work to come with me. She was great though, fell asleep in the DR's waiting room, slept through the first needle, grimaced during the second, then squawked during the third, but was easily consoled with a bit of mummy's boob. Now she is fast asleep upstairs listening to her favourite Hreatbeat sound track on the "sounds of silence" CD. Which brings me to my next point.. the sounds of silence cd, its a godsend! Seriously! I bought it ages ago but never bothered with it, then 2 days ago, Eli was really unsettled and overtired and wouldnt sleep, I had tried everything, and she just wouldnt relax, so I put her in her cot and turned on the cd and within 20 seconds, there was instant silence.. within 3 mins she was asleep and stayed asleep until 4 hours later when I had to wake her to feed her. Now, whenever she needs to go to bed I just put her in her cot with the cd playing in the background and she sleeps soundly. There are a few different "white noise" tracks on the cd, but she seems to favour the heartbeat sound. I know it might turn into a sleep association thing, but to be honest, I can certainly live with that if it makes her feel better!

Raffee: Sorry to hear that your little bub has a cold, poor little mite, have you tried the vicks baby balsam? DD had the snuffles one night and I rubbed some of the baby balsam on her chest and it cleared up.

mama Anne; chocolate freckles for brekky eh? Dont worry, I had dark chocolate timtams for my brekky this morning, I seem to be going straight for the sweet stuff in the mornings these days - probably because I am too lazy to prepare something for me and choccy is a great quick fix!

noosamum: 9 -6am sleeps! Good going!! I thought I was lucky getting Eli to sleep till 5.30! But I put her down at 7.30, then wake her for another feed at around 11 - then she sleeps till around 5.30 if I am lucky, but not always :-)

Bella8 - Sorry to hear that you have had mastitis - sounds awfull! I hope that you are feeling better now and that bubs colic is ok

Wattle - Gald that there was a plus side to the morning sickness and GD with the weight loss! How are you enjoying being able to eat normally again? I dont know much about GD, does it just go after bub is born or do you still have to watch what you eat?

Jane - hope that golf ball is going down, you poor thing! How long to go before the start studded wedding bash? Sounds great!

beany - hope eveything is going ok with you and the frequent feeds

I know this is getting long, but - I had to update you on a new thing Eli has started to do.. giggle in her sleep! yep, not when she is awake mind you, she will be just dozing off to sleep and all of a sudden start giggling loudly! Full on! Now why wont she do that for me when she is awake? I get loads of smiles, she loves to smile and girgle, but it seems that the cute giggles are reserved for when she is sleeping! I wonder what she is dreaming about to make her giggle:rolleyes:

Noosamum- what a champ clio is! Sleeping through the night 5 nights in a row!!!! !

Ahhhh yes, .....but what I neglected to mention, was that she hardly sleeps during the day - and I think it's because she really only gets the opportunity to do so in her cot or bassinet between 9am - 2.30, otherwise we are off at ballet or tennis or swimming or cricket training or gymnastics or ......
Poor thing. The night sleeping thing is good though :D

Just checking in. I've read everyone's posts so I'm now up to speed.

Not much news from our end really. Had Keeley weighed today and she's doing OK. Her length is in the 50th percentile, while her weight is in the 30th.... The nurse said that she should still be having 6 feeds, but she only has 5 because she sleeps so well over night. I'm certainly not waking her! She doesn't drink her full bottles though, which does bother me a bit but having been there before I know she'll drink it if she's hungry.

Oh! and there goes her radar! gotta run :hugs: to everyone!

afternoon all

well i weighed bella today .... she's 4.1kg clothed, which means she's put on round about 150g per week since birth which is great ..... even if her weight hadn't been that good though i wouldnt have been worried (i say that now!) as she is a champion wee-er and poo-er ... just when i think she cant produce anymore she goes and does it again. At least it's not solids poo though :barf:

i bought a pack of arnotts selections chocolate biscuits today ........ the packet is in the fridge taunting me .... but it's not open yet and i'm not opening it today! if i open it there will be no stopping me

Actually, she has a bit too much hair .. its still on her shoulders! Althought the pediatrician assures me that this will go in the next few weeks .. what if she doesnt!!!
bella is still very very hairy .... one of the mums at mothers group said her son's body (not head) hair all came off at about 6 weeks and in that week there was a black ring around the bath every time he got washed .... she freaked out then realised it was the hair

raffee the mothers group is at the early childhood health centre .... its run for 5 weeks as a "new parents group" at the centre then apparently the group just runs itself and whoever wants to keep going goes and hangs out. you should see if there's a group starting at a centre near you (i sound like an infomercial!). hope bubs is feeling better soon and that you get your r&r also :hugs:

shed good on you for joining the gym (it is the first step!). i'm so tempted to join somewhere but now i have to think about one with childcare (never had to factor that in before!) as i dont have any family nearby to leave bella with while i go sweat. i really feel like i want to take charge of my body .... maybe a reaction to feeling so out of control of body things in pregnancy (even though i generally had a good pregnancy) that now i want to get things back to how they were ......... but then again sitting on the lounge watching oprah while bubs is asleep and eating chocolate is WAY too tempting also! apparently we shouldn't be starting to do any serious exercise till after 6 weeks anyway ....

I cant believe some of you are getting full nights sleep!!!! How long does that take to kick in?!

Elsha was weighed on Tuesday, and in 5 days- she managed to put on 250g!! She keeps piling on the weight, and is looking like a big chubba now!

*shes crying... brb*

*sigh* she always has to be cuddled!!

She is a month old today, and while her staying up all night has settled abit- im still only getting about 4hours sleep a night. Ive had to change my diet, as she was getting really bad wind... so no sugar or milk products for me... Im on SOY everything...which isnt so bad- I kind of like Soy... I just miss chocolate!

It only really occurred to me yesterday that Im a mum now. LOL... it took me a whole month for it to sink in that I have a child and that Im now a mother. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi All

Well Oliver is going to be one month old tomorrow. I can't believe how fast it has gone, but it also seems he has been around forever.

We are going great, this last week has been a bit unsettled as we have had many outings and family engagements but mostly because one night we had fish and chips for dinner and man that was a mistake..... I felt the heartburn kick in straight away and sure enough next feed poor Ollie must have suffered because we then had a night full of screams.. We are really lucky because mostly Oliver has his last feed at around 10pm then sleeps until 2am and then again until 5 or 6am. Sometimes he only wakes at 4am for one feed.... Looking forward to a full nights sleep although I do realise it could be a lot worse.

Looking forward to Monday as we can weigh him again. Last Monday he was weighing 4.4 kilos which is 360 grams more than his birth weight.

It is DH's birthday today, he got a TV for our bedroom from me and the book, What to Expect in the first year from Oliver... I think it is going to take more than a year for us to read it!!

Anyway must go, Oliver has just woken up from a little 20 min sleep.... Sorry for the lack of personals this time around, will get back later.. Loving looking at the updated photos of all the bubbas, they really are growing quickly it is amazing isn't it!

Hi jessi
My DS didn't sleep through until he was about 9 mths old, DD1 was about 4 mths old but Miss Clio seems to have caught on early as I am not sleep deprived at all and she sleeps through most nights now. It does get better though Jessi, so hang in there!

Went clothes shopping - everything looked revolting. Funny, 'cos I actually weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy but my body shape has changed I think and clothes that normally would have looked fine, looked :barf: *sigh*

DH did the grocery shopping today and took the baby  When he came home, he said he loved it and would do it every week!!!! I thought this was a bit strange but was happy to accept his offer, just then though, I caught him on the phone to a friend, saying how great it was, "every woman in the store, young and old, came up to see the baby" - now he thinks he's a chick magnet because of our beautiful bub  Mind you, I have to let him have some fun, he's an "older" Dad (1960's love child!!) so it's been a while since he's been a chick magnet!!!

Hugs to all,

It is so hard..I worry when she does not sleep then I worry when she sleeps too much..AHHHH, there is alway something....plus I have been waiting for that 6 week growth spurt I hear so much about..she is 7 weeks on Sunday and still nothing..waiting..waiting...waiting

LP - I have two words to say to you about your new avatar...SPITTING IMAGE!! She's so like you!! You lucky thing, I hardly got a look in with Baden. He looks like DP except for his dodgy little nose.

Well we went out and about today to find him a little collared shirt to wear tomorrow for our friend's baby's christening. I found one, he looks so cute in it, very blokey.

I was in Target looking for something for myself to wear and I was in the changing room trying stuff on and he decides he's hungry, so I sat down on the seat and fed him, then he let out an explosive fart, so I decided I should change the poor wee mite so he didn't have to be traipsed around the shops in a dirty nappy. So I was changing him in his pram and when I took the nappy off of course he let out another explosive fart and yes, there was follow through!! Luckily I had the new nappy underneath but some still went on the sheepskin, LOL Gross!!

Then he was really whingey, wouldn't shut up even though I had fed him (I thought we had a deal?), so I had to try and pick a new lipstick in between jamming the dummy back in his gob. Very distracting so god only knows what colour I actually got.

Feeds: He has a feed at 11pm and lately his 2am feed has got later and later, this morning it was just before 5am. I don't really take too much notice of the clock though, I don't get tired, we just sleep in the next morning. I get up at around 8am these days. I LOVE not going to work, I love love love it!!

Oh stupid sodding Windows! I'd typed up a huge personals post and the rotten machine crashed! I KNEW there was a reason I used my iBook more than the PC ...

I'll try to dredge up the salient points of the lost post. You'll have to take my word for the fact that it was beautifully written, with a poetic flair that Tennyson would have been envious of. (Holy poo! I actually remembered the name of a poet! Maybe there's hope for the knackered old brain after all!)

The boob hugger has been okay. We've worked out a little compromise in the last two days: I give him a feed when he wakes, if he falls asleep, I burp him. When he's had enough of the boob, I take him in for a nappy change - a cold wet wipe across his balls wakes him right up, I can tell you! We then have an inane 30mins or so of chatter. I do the inane chatter, he looks at me like I'm from another planet. Eventually he has enough of the whole lot, wants a boob again, sucks for another 20mins or so and falls asleep. Usually for 2-3 hours! Yay!

Unfortunately, these long naps during the day seem to be taking their toll at night. He woke for a feed at 3:30am. Fed for an hour. Didn't go to sleep until 7am.

Noodle was not amused. Nor was I. I asked him "what on Earth are we meant to do with him NOW?!" his response was "stick him in a bucket and hang him over the balcony". heh heh.

I am outrageously jealous of all of you folks who have sleepers-through. I was having a chat with a friend the other day and she told me that for breastfed babies, sleeping through means only 6 hours ... Another thing to add to the "pros of formula feeding" column! (they sleep through for like 8 hours).

*quick exit - can anyone guess why? *

LP - I have two words to say to you about your new avatar...SPITTING IMAGE!! She's so like you!! You lucky thing, I hardly got a look in with Baden. He looks like DP except for his dodgy little nose.!

Yep, I have been told that Eli looks a lot like me, but I like to thnk that I dont have chubby cheeks and a monty burns chin like her though!!
I think Baden has a gorgeous little nose! Definitely not "dodgy" very cute! Hope you have fun at the christening tomorrow with your fuscia pink lipstick!! Did you end up getting the right colour? When you said that you were in the changing room trying on clothes and then changed Baden, I thought you were going to say that he did an explosive poo all over the change room wall or the clothes you were trying on on something! Now that would have been a classic!!

Beany: - Hanging bub off the balcony in a bucket is a new one!! oh, btw, I give dd a formua feed just before bed and breast feed her for the rest of the time .. she's happy, we are happy (as we get some sleep) works for us!

Tashmusa: good going with the long sleep, I know what you mean about worrying if they sleep too long, then complaining that they are not sleeping enough, I am like that too! If dd goes for over 5 hours sleeping at night, I am almost washed out of bed by my bb's deciding to empty themselves!!

Noosamum: - You lucky thing, I wish I weighed less than I did prepregnancy .. I am still not fitting into a lot of my clothes and refuse to buy anymore as I need the incentive to get back into the clothes I already own!
