View Full Version : What defines a 'spirited' child?

I think I have one.

She's nearly 16 months old

She doesn't sleep much (never really did)
She's always on the go and won't sit still for more than a few minutes
She's loud and yells lots
She gets frustrated very quickly if she can't do something or something doesn't go her way
She is highly emotional and will go to pieces if she doesn't get her way
She's very intelligent...too intelligent for her own good I think
She's into everything
She climbs on and up anything she can
She runs everywhere, walking just seems to take too long for her liking
She rarely listens when told not to do something

She's absolutely exhausting

Do I have a spirited child or a really naughty toddler?

Sounds just like my DD who is 15 months - i always thought she is spirited but being my first i don't know for sure.

Sounds exactly like my DS. I thought that was normal behaviour

Sounds absolutely average for the age to me.

My DD is 15 months and exactly as you described. I was wondering the same thing just yesterday, if she's spirited or this is just normal. (I also don't have another to compare with).

Anyone know where to find a definition of a spirited toddler?

But a spirited child is MORE.

It's not a stage, it's 24/7

The volume is louder and everything is just MORE.

All kids have stages, spirited kids are just on a slightly different plane...

That's the best way I've ever heard to define my little lady. MORE! She's more of everything. Louder, stronger, faster, you name it...all the time!

Thanks for the link  Wish I'd found that thread earlier. Makes me feel better knowing I'm not alone. The OP is me and her all over.
