Hello,

I have an 8 month old and am currently TTC#2. I'd like to continue breastfeeding DS until he is at least 12 months old, but wonder what will happen if I get pregnant ...

Has anyone breastfed while pregnant? Is is possible? Or is it completely exhausting? (or both! :D)

Thanks,

Breastfeeding whilst pg certainly is possible. I am 16 weeks pg and breastfeeding still. I can't tell you though if it get's tiring towards the end of the pg, I am sure it would though, but still definately possible.;)

Hi I breastfed until I was around 18-20 weeks pregnant.

I stopped on the advice of my GP as I was getting very run down, catching every flu that came my way, etc.

With good nutrition and someone keeping a close eye on your and your childrens health it is possible to breastfeed whilst pregnant.

Just be careful however as your supply may decrease, so you might have to do a bit of hard yakka to keep it up.

Good luck TTC!

I just stopped feeding ds almost a month ago now and I'm 27 weeks. I didn't really feel any more tired than I did when I was pregnant with ds adn not breastfeeding. However my supply dropped significantly. To the point where I had nothing in one breast for a while and just fed from one side. Mind you, at this point ds was purely comfort sucking and it was a few days before I realised there was no milk as he was happy to suck away anyway!!! Also, my nipples were quite sensitive and this made breastfeeding a little painful - not unbearable, but not overly pleasant either.
I was happy to continue breastfeeding for as long as it felt right for the two(3!) of us. I think we were both ready. A great site to check out for more info is Kellymom. Sorry, I don't know the exact address but you will find it easily if you google it.

I fed right through this last pregnancy, and it is tiring, but not unbearably so if you manage to eat and drink well, and try to get as much sleep as possible.
My supply did drop - well, my milk turned to colostrum of course, but that did not deter my son at all, he was happy to continue feeding.
My nipples did get very sore and sensitive, so I did have to limit the duration of feeds a fair bit.
I think tandem feeding is more demanding personally, especially if you are feeding two during the night.
I felt a lot better when I night weaned my toddler.

It's certainly possible ;)

I have a friend who BFed #1 right through her pregnancy and tandem fed when #2 arrived

I was giving my DD EBM when I got pregnant (bf'ing never worked for us) but within weeks of concieving DD2 my milk just dried up. My mw says that happens with some women as there body refuses to do both things at the same time, she told me we could try a few things to build my supply again but if my body was saying it had had enough, it was probably bset to leave it be so we did.
