View Full Version : Chaffing!

I do a bit long distance bike riding and sometimes find that the head of my penis chafes on the lining of my bike shorts. I'm sure this wouldn't occur if I hadn't been circumcised as the foreskin would be there doing it job and protecting my penis.

The only solution I can think of is to wear a condom while cycling. :o

Unlikely to work, since a condom will be immobilised against the glans.

The unique thing about a foreskin is its mobility, which is why most intact men find the greatest discomfort when it spontaneously retracts (outside of sex or bathing).

Most serious bike stores will stock products like Chamois Butt'r, which are basically a lubricant & lotion to help minimise chaffing. Vaseline is also useful. (xDH competed in Ironman Triathlon and had many many long training rides, so I know too much about chaimois & chafing!)

You might also look at the shorts themselves and the position of the seams. If you compare brands you may find that some have better positioned seams (I know that women's shorts are constructed differently to avoid seams in sensitive spots, but even so, some are more comfortable than others).

I know a lot of cyclists who would be circumcised and they talk about everything and none of them have an issue, so I don't think you can blame being circumcised on it. I agree with checking your chamois and the way you er..dress when cycling. It could be your seat too that is causing issues. There are heaps of lubricants, but I wouldn't recommend old vaso as it can heat up and makes things worse. Bodyglide is what most athletes recommend, or Hydropel if you can get it in Oz.

Thanks for the tips Lastcenturymum.
I do have one pair of knicks that are a little looser than my other pairs and these ones cause me the most problems. I still believe that the problem would not occur if I wasn't circumcised.
I agree that it is not a common topic of conversation in cycling circles, but this doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
