... I'd like to give DD a little bit more freedom. She just gets so sick of the pram or the trolley, but is still so young that she has no sense.
When we're out an about in places where she wants to walk but she can't walk freely (i.e. shops, on the train etc), I'd like to get her one of those little harnesses. She will only hold my hand for a second or so, and she's so little that it's very awkward trying to bend over to hold a limp, unresponsive little hand and make sure she doesn't run off - especially as I am six months pregnant.
Whereabouts did those who have them buy the harness for their child? You know, the cute furry doggy or animal ones? Mum had one for me when I was little that was just plain, and I've seen those ones in Target but they're too boring for such an active little girl.
** This is NOT a thread on whether you think harnesses are ok or not. Just on where to buy them. THANKS**

I got mine off ebay.
I bought mine from a baby store, I have seen them in a few bigger baby stores. I know they can be contentious but lately we have been having lots of success with it!! Just today my parents took DS for a 45 minute walk and he loved walking the whole way, he didn't ask to be picked up once. Last weekend we also did another big walk. We are really liking it because he has the opportunity to walk, explore, stop when he wants etc. If I held his hand he would let go or just sit and refuse to move and possibly lie on the ground which, as he's 20kg makes it really really hard to bend over and pick him up.

Yeah exactly. My DD is very active and loves to walk around, but she doesn't understand anything to do with safety or not walking off. She is just in her own little world, bless her heart. Just like she should be at 14 months. But in the pram she gets restless and frustrated quite quickly, and I feel for her. She's more cooped up and confined in there than she would be toddling happily around on a harness.
I might go and have a look in Babyland or something like that tomorrow, otherwise I'll go to KMart or eBay. eBay! Of course! What can't you buy there?? :D

Really? What section of Target did you get them in? I had quite a thorough look yesterday and didn't find any ...
There's a Target and a Toys R Us just up the road from us, so either of those would be the easiest places. A pink poodle would be perfect for her!!

Toys r us sell monkeys, dogs, teddys etc, they are soft and padded, look so cute and the handle is easy to hold, and there is a little pocket to tuck the handle into when you can let her loose for a minute. $30 on sale from memory. I got a teddy for dd1 cos I thought she was too young to have a monkey on her back

How weird that you just posted this - I just bought one today from Kmart. In the section that has sippy cups, safety bits & pieces, and so on in the baby area.
DS is actually not bad at following me, the problem is more that he pulls things off the shelves always
I am hoping that the harness will mean I can wear him out a lot more than having him idle in the pram.

I've actually never looked in KMart - I'm always too distracted by the GORGEOUS kids' shoes they have there :D
I guess DD has just grown up in a very safe world. She's never been to daycare or in the care of anyone that she doesn't know (i.e. family), she's only ever been around me, DP and my parents and his Mum, she's a very secure little girl, very happy, very content and very confident - and extremely clueless!!
She copes SO well with any kind of pain or fright, she's great with other kids etc - nothing ever seems to faze her. So while she'll turn around if I say her name, and occasionally come to me if I say `come here darling' mostly she's just so confident in herself and her surroundings that she's just happy to explore and tends to look at me and smile and then do her own thing anyway. Lol.
Plus, at 14 months she understands the words I'm saying but not the meaning behind them. I can't explain `danger' or `stay with Mummy' in a way that will be meaningful to her - I just have to start hammering it in at this age.
I think this will be a perfect way to give her her freedom but to also make sure that she's safe, and to train her that staying close to Mummy is a good idea.

ToysRUs in Morley DEF have them. Was there the other day.
Anyway though - I do have a plain harness/leash thing that I am happy to send you if you want. (doesnt have a teddy or animal - just the harness and clip on leash .... but works just the same)
pm me your address if you want it.
