View Full Version : why the mcn obssession?
why do we become so obssessed with cloth bumming?
obviously it is partly the feeling of superiority and self satisfaction
but why does it become an obsession? do we need to get out more?

I have been asking the same thing to myself for ages lol. I personally am not obsessed with mcn, I just use boring old MM hemp and BBH bamboo fitteds and I have enough now to use full time and I have not bought another nappy for a while.
I don't feel the excitement and utter joy in buying mcn, I don't think I would in buying embroidered or decorated nappies either. I might just be an odd one out!
I find it amusing when women say *DP/DH is going to kill me or I'm not going to tell him*. They are so obsessed with mcn they are willing keep buying nappies even if they might face the wrath of their hubbies who just don't get the obsession lol.
Then again I have come across a forum with women utterly obsessed with prams and the same type of nappy bag, (Which after looking at is rather ugly and plain in my eyes hee hee).
I loved getting my full time collection together... and now that I have enough nappies, I am in a sort of 'mourning' period now, as I don't need anymore.
It's almost like a new peice of clothing for them, a fashion statement:laughing:
I think it's great you can be doing the right thing for the environment, and have it be such a fashion statement. Now I know the impact of 'sposies, it does make it a big deal to me, to educate people of the harsh realities of 'sposies.
haha I think I do need to get out more! Nah but really, I think for me its a combination. My boy is at the stage where he's day sleeps are pretty vital and we need to be home for them, so I do spend a lot more time here than being out and about. It is also a good procrastinator to avoid housework. And I love shopping, so I get excited about buying new nappies, especially because you can make yourself feel better about it by saying they are a necessity as opposed to frivulous(sp?) spending haha. I dunno, its turned into a bit of a hobby for me and relieves some of my boredom. Well, thats my excuse and I'm sticken to it :D. I can see why its hard for others to understand though, but, meh, theres bigger things in the world to worry about :D hehe
We use MCNs (when we're not feeling lazy) for environmental reasons, but I'm not particularly into buying different ones.
Babies look adorable in them though.
I imagine it's just another form of collecting. Like handbags, furniture, cars or whatever takes your fancy.
As far as obsessions go, though, it's a pretty good one to have as everybody wins.:D
guilt free shopping, that must be part of it i'm sure. and you're right re collecting, i used to collect shoes now i wear sneakers all the time and feel guilty buying things for myself , but buying mcns is both spending money to save money and helping the enviro!
and of course the cuteness factor

:iagree: i definantly need to get out more
i have waves of time where i think omg this is stupid i need to stop spending so much on these ........
then i think ...you know what i dont care how much ive spent .....( at least its keeping me occupied)
i know i have to get my "fix", i have no money to spend, but still managed to dive into melb expo center this morning, thinking i might be able to find a bargin or 2 on nappies (after i just bought a couple more bambooty's on special) - only to discover its on next weekend!!! what a waste of 1.5 hrs of beautful sunshine day :( at least i didn't spend anymore.....

I'm only just starting out with my full time collection but I'm going to enjoy being an addict I think. I have a really good time looking at all the different sites and picking out the nappies I might like to try. I also agree that the satisfaction factor of shopping and getting something useful and enviro friendly adds another element. Since I'm confined to the house for the moment and I have enough baby clothes to last for a year, I need something else to do besides living in the dark corners of bubhub and constantly updating my FB status:laughing:

hehehe..i just had a laugh about the last comment u made about the FB status and the lurking
I'm obsessed! I like buying them, making them, changing them, washing them.
I love getting packages in the mail, and new things, trying out new nappies on DD. Patting her little fluffy bum.
For me its become a hobby, a talking point, something to do. I talk to other mums in the change rooms about my nappies, I've met friends because of them (people ive brought off and other cloth users). Sewing them is a hobby of mine that keeps my mind working and gives me something constructive to do.
Shopping online is great fun too, as are stockings, its like a race to the finish line, the harder a nappy is to get, the more I want it.
So yes, I'm a nappy addict and its improved my life, but not my bank account :)

:iagree: Yep what she said (except for the making them part, cause i got no idea how to do that )
And i plan on having another bubba soon so i can reuse them and sell them. For me its mainly the money issue. And i have met some lovely ladies talking about MCN. And its environmentally friendly, and have you seen them?? They are SOOO cute.:flowerz:
I have no idea why I have become so obsessed with the whole MCN thing. I do think it is because it does make you feel good. Plus they are all so darn cute!
I have also since doing this become a bit OCD about making sure I am "environmentally friendly" with everything I do.
I even feel sick when I do things that aren't good for the environment - like running the dryer.

I love MCNs, they're so easy to use, they're environmentally friendly, save us money and they cured dds nappy rash issue. They're also incredibly adorable.
To be honest with you I'm buying a lot at the moment because we're growing our stash, but once we've got enough to go full time I'll slow right down.

Im addicted, but i have an addictive personality. Im a one of the crazy women who has had 8 prams, 4 baby carriers, a million different types of bottles etc. Im addicted to baby products. But for me, im all on my own to discover the world of baby products, only one of my friends has kids as she lives an hour away. DP couldnt care less so its something that i enjoy doing, and its harmless- we can afford it, and the kids dont mind.
I think the next step is for me to open a baby shop haha
