I have just moved bubs into her own room (first night tonight!) and am starting to panic that I don't have a monitor. Our house is small and the floor plan means I can hear her from every room.... up until now I haven't even thought about one.

Her room is just across the hall, and I will definitely hear her cries (she is loud!).

But do I need to hear other thinkgs like her breathing etc (from a SIDS perspective????)

I am getting nervous.

Aww *hugs* It's a big thing!! Going by my own experience you'll wake up at the slightest move and probably wont actually get much sleep anyway. We did have a monitor but I forgot to turn it on in our room that first night lol Heard him straight away though and got there before he woke up properly.

If you're really concerned then maybe put a mattress in bubs' room and sleep in there to ease your own doubts? That way you can slowly move it away once you know how bubs is going in their cot. Good luck!!

We have a small place, and I have never had a monitor. At night we shut his door and leave ours open and have never had a problem!

I guess its just one of those up to you type things!

Thanks ladies....... I am just so anxious I won't  anyway! I'll still hear everything and am sure tomorrow night will be much better.

:hugs: such a big step! We have always had monitors for both DS and DD...for us it just gave us peace of mind as we had the sensor monitor. It went off a few times and scared the life out of us but it was when they had rolled right down to the corner of the cot...at least we knew it worked? I know plenty of people that don't feel the need for a monitor but to us it gave us reassurance.

Hi I went through the same thing, moved ds2 into his own room at about 4 months when he went from bassinet to cot. Moved our bed into his room the very next day and used it as an opportunity to repaint our bedroom. We put our bed right up close to the edge of his cot so I could settle during the night without getting out of bed, made feeding and settling much easier and when he was older actually turned into a sidecar cot for co-sleeping. Sids actually recommends sleeping in the same room with your baby until they are 12 months old, it worked for us, I was happy, baby was happy, dad was snoring.:D

I have a small house too. Even when DP takes over to give me a break there is nowhere I can escape that I can't hear DD, and I hate ear plugs.

Anyhoo, everyone told me not to get a monitor but I'm just one of those people who worry about everything and the only way I can get some peaceful sleep is having the breathing/sensor monitor on.

But do I need to hear other thinkgs like her breathing etc (from a SIDS perspective????)

I am getting nervous.

We were the same with DD. Very small house so we could hear her from everywhere but I was worried sick about SIDS and knew that if I didn't put breathing sensors under her mattress I wouldn't be able to relax. I was very very nervous and having that system in place did help put my mind at ease. We only had it set on the "motion" sensor so it didn't make any noise unless there was a reason it needed to eg. not breathing etc.

We had 1 false alarm in 12 months and for the peace of mind it gave I'll take that false alarm no worries.

Good Luck - hope you find a way that works best for you :hugs:

We only use the monitor during the day as we have a two storey home. The monitors were too close together to work without feedback at night when we are in the bedrooms. It is much quieter at night and we have no problem hearing our noisy guy!! :)
Hope it went well!

how did your first night go?
I worry about every thing so i have one of those movement sensors also - a *big* relief. we never have the sound on though - like you our house is smallish and i wake up to his very slightest sound.

She went really well- I was up a million times! All fine though. She's done 3 nights now and has slept a lot better!
