Whose having fun with teeth yet?

I took DS to the MCHN the other day for advice about his recent bad wind and she said he was teething. He is up every 2 hours at night, sleeps terribly during the day and constantly does this strange thing where he folds his lower lip down over his bottom gum, bites down and blows raspberries. And of course dribbling and biting down in everything.

How long does this last for?? His sleep has gone to hell!! Just thought it would be nice to chat about all things teeth.

Oh, teething sucks big time!

My older ones started teething around 3months, but didn't get their 1st teeth till around 7 months.

I use an Amber teething necklace on Chais & he's been great. They are made from baltic amber & the idea is when the warmth of your body touches the beads, it releases a natural analgaesic (sp?) which helps with the teething pain & you don't have to be dosing them up with panadol & stuff all the time. Cruz has 1 on too. I think he's also starting as he's getting the red cheeks & the dribbling.

And I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it lasts a while. Chais is 16 months & still teething! He has about 16 teeth now though, so hopefully we're nearing the end for a while. He's been good with it though, except for the acidic teething poos that tend to burn their butts. And the constant dribbling. OMG the boy can dribble

If you want to try something natural, a lot of people rave about the Hylands teething tablets. You get them from a chemist & they are little tablets you put in bubs mouth & they just disolve. I didn't really find them any good, but lots of people do.

Oh yes

DD seems like she's been teething since 3.5months no joke. (just over 5 now)

I can see the teeth just under the gums so I've started giving her rusks to chew to encourage them to come up.

Everynight without fail, I give her teething gel before bed  last night even panadol and she slept so much better when I added the panadol into the mix. Don't know if it's a good idea to do every night though

Teething has been going on a long time here,DS has two bottom teeth and the top are not far away! We have had a few very bad days. Not eating and having to be carried around for the day.Rusks and easy dry bibs(for dribbling) have been a God send.

kotakai - Where do you get Amber teething necklace?

ive started using the tablets and they seem to work okay. where do you get the necklaces from?

MummyR&K: Ive been trying to avoid panadol as much as possible but its hard!!

OTW: I wanted to try rusks but the packet says not till 6 months? I wonder why. :detective:

We are teething here. They aren't faring too bad, they are pretty easy bubs though (thank goodness). We have the red cheeks, dribbling, rasberries, bum rashes and diarrhea. We get the odd crying day but that is when the teeth are RIGHT under the gums. We are using a mixture of the teething tablets, panadol and bongela (after the chemist explained all the media hype surrounding it).

I want to get some Amber teething necklaces but DP is scared they will choke the bubs.

 Teething here too, although we finally got some evidence yesterday with the first tooth through:smiliedance:

The hylands tablets are great but I really want an amber necklace too now!

Why do they blow raspberries? Lincoln has been crying all morning, chewing his fingers and just constantly blowing raspberries. He is so clingy and just wants to be cuddled. I gave him a hit of panadol so that he can get some relief and a big day sleep.

I get my necklaces from Inspired by Finn in America.

OTW: I wanted to try rusks but the packet says not till 6 months? I wonder why. :detective:

Not knowing if he has milk protein probs, I would steer clear of rusks. They had enough milk in them to affect Chais.

You need to be comfortable about using them, but both my boys have worn them since around 2-3 months. They have them on 24/7. I got 14 inch ones, which are long enough that I don't worry about choking, but not too long that they want to put them in their mouth.

Kian definitely has the hard gums, dribbling, red cheeks, chewing, chewing, chewing, etc... But there's not been any change in his cheerful, giggly demeanor to suggest he's having any problems. Not using any pain relief, but lots of teething type toys!

we have just started teething and i bought the brauers this morning...too early to tell if it is working yet.
i liked the look of the necklace as well but dh did some research and says no because of negative side affects in studies.
if ds is anything like dd then this irritability will come and go in waves until the teeth come through.

Oh I would say because mostly solids arent started until 6 months.

Depends on the baby if they are ready for them or not, and you have to watch them like a hawk. DS started them at 5 months and is fine

DD loves them, but will only generally last 5mins before getting bored. I get the Raffertys Garden ones they are alot better then the Heinz.....but not every supermarket stock t hem.

Yay Kian! Ushas, he sounds like a dream baby!

GL: The Hylands homeopathy tablets come with a money back guarentee if they dont settle bub! I;ve used them all day and they seem to work for about two hours, but then there is another four hours of grizzling before I can give him some more.

Mummy 2R&K: I better not use them if they have milk as Kota said, DS has a cows milk allergy! Ill stick with teething rings.

Poor Lincoln. I just settled him to sleep and he was literally chewing on his dummy. He is so unhappy. I wonder how long he will be this unsettled until a tooth pops out?

Funnily enough I bought some teething rusks for Kian today. I ended up getting the Heinz ones because they have less salt in them than the Rafferty's Garden. He chewed on it for a couple of minutes and then couldn't be bothered. But the Rafferty's garden ones sounded much nicer! :)

Thanks Lilahh, he is a dream bubba. We've not had any issues with him really, apart from a hellish temper when he doesn't want to go to sleep! Lol! But he's not cut any teeth yet so it could all change at a moments notice.

We're also going through the fun of teething right now. Poor DD had the nappyrash the other week which is now sorted. Now her cheeks are glowing red, sleeping is all out of whack, is grizzly & clingy, dribbling non-stop & chewing on anything she can get into her mouth. They haven't even cut through yet, i can see them all under her gum, her bottom gum is all hard & white.

Last night i gave her some panadol before bed, she only woke me couple times & slept till 7am. The previous 3 nights were horrid as she was crying in her sleep enough to wake me thinking she'd woken up. So i've not had much sleep. DD is also catnapping during the day too & her temp went to 37.2 today.

I was told to try "Sedar" gel today as it's the closest thing to the teething paint the childrens hospital (in S.A) sell. If it doesn't work i'll try the Brauers.

Seriously Lilahh, you will get used to not picking up anything in a shop until you've checked the label, cause milk comes in so many forms and in so many products that seem weird!

Gee gee: I will have a look around for that dummy. DS is chewing on his, its the only way he can get any sleep. Where did you get yours from?

BI: Any teeth popped through yet?

Ushas: Thanks for the tip, Im hoping DS grows out of it. :fingerscrossed:

AFM, DS is still teething and its causing a lot of grief. His nappy rash is quite bad. Also, I keep checking for teeth and Im so sure he is cutting his bottom canines. I can see white nubs on either side and they are surrounded by hard white/red swollen gums. I thought they were supposed to get the front incisors first??

Fingers crossed he does Lilahh... My nephew hasn't which is a complete bummer. Also I bought a gummy dummy from Coles. It was their own brand.

Lilahh
31-10-2009, 19:24
So we got a gummy dummy but its doing nothing, DS just can't figure out how to use it, he wants to suck/chew on it but can't do both! We are using teething toys/face washers/rusks to get through awake time and his usual dummy or my finger at sleep time.

He is still drooling buckets and rubbing things over his gum and of course being so irritable.

How long does the waking-every-10-minutes stage of teething last?? Took him to the Dr. today cause I was worried it was an ear infection or something, he has been SO unsettled past 24 hours, crying out in pain a lot and waking non-stop! Dr. said the teeth should be through within 5 days if it really is teeth bothering him... otherwise its something else.

Im so confused, babies are so confusing!!!!!!!! :hair:

Lilah - :hugs: for you. Sounds like you need them! You're right, babies are confusing!!! Hope your little one pops some teeth soon. It sounds like you're doing all the right things and the little pegs are on the way. I can't offer any other tips, esp on the constant waking. DS is currently teething but he just drooled a lot the day before his teeth popped, and now he's just extra clingy and has a nappy rash. I assume you have been massaging DS gums with your finger or cold (from the freezer) washer?

Lilah ~ No sign of any teteth just yet. I hear you on the broken sleep & grumpy bubby right now. I want my great little sleeper back.

bella ~ Poor little mite, nappy rash is just awful. A friend suggested to me to use the powder with the cornstarch (J&J) in it as it helps with nappyrash.

I do wish they'd hurry up though, the dribbling is just insane. I now take at least 3/4 spare bibs with us when going out. DD been out of sorts since her needle wednesday but last night i tried some teething gel on her gums before bed as she was o/tired but couldn't drift off. So between that & some panadol she'd had earlier she eventually drifted off to sleep. I think i might need to get some more chew toys as she's munging on anything & everything these days too.

A tip i got from CYH about the dribble rash under the chin in neck skinfolds: put some babyoil there as it works as a water reppelent i think. I was using nappyrash cream but she suggested the babyoil.

:smiliedance: DD got her 1st tooth today.

The only change in DD that i noticed was she was a bit more grumpy, was doing lots more nasty poos & had a nasty nappyrash suddenly appear.

DD has now had her 2nd tooth cut threw. I noticed it today, you can just see & feel the tip of it. Poor DD has got a bad nappyrash from the teething, she's got bad thrush.

I'm so hating this teething business right now :banghead: Yesterday poor MissA was grizzly & clingy all day & her sleeping went to poo. She's cutting her teeth along her top gum right now. I can see them all(& feel them) just sitting in her gum waiting to break threw her gum. Sedagel only camled her for about 5 mins & she's chewing on everything in sight.

I'd heard some really positive things about Hylands teething tablets & managed to find a chemist that sold them. They seem to be helping her thankfully. I wish now i'd gotten them earlier for her.

Oh BI I hear you loud and clear. We've just had half an hour of solid shrieking. Poor bub. I'm not getting much sleep and I know that tonight he is going to have me up most of the night.

I've just sent him off to bed with teething gel, Nurofen and Hylands in the hope that he can get some sleep. He's a very tired, very clingy little boy right now. And he's desperatley chomping his dummy on the side of his mouth. He has a Raz dummy which he loves chewing! His top teeth are also coming through. I can see the white of his front two and definitely one eye tooth.

It's just so cruel this teething business. Ushas, your poor little boy, i feel your pain too. My poor little monkey had not enough sleep during the day from her teething & was so exhausted by bed time she crashed out before having her bottle.
