This will be quite long and this is only a slight history of my ds ..

But my question is - Has anyone heard of cranial osteopathy. ?

My 6yr old has suffered numerous health and behavoural problems for nearly three years, We have been referred to a pediatrician who did lots of test as he has very bad sinus and nasal problems along with ear infections and frequent headaches, THe dr couldn't find any thing conclusive except he belived that he had allergies because he was asymptomatic(?) and his swelling was really bad in his nose that one nostril was almost closed, he snores and always has constant headaches. He complained of a sore neck and back last year and he ran more test and nothing showed up. He is also known to have violent and aggressive outburst (for no apparent reason) he is a very pleasant child normally.

During the last week he has been quite 'cranky and angry' these are his words, and this weekend he got a headache, started coughing during the night and then on sunday he got an earache. Yesterday- I noticed that his forehead was puffy and this morning took him to the doctors and he said he definately had a sinus infection and an ear infection. So we started antibiotics this afternoon, His GP was concerned because he know ds to be a kind boy and now the 'hissy fits' have started again along with all of the above mentioned symptoms.

GP referred us to a cranial osteopathist who said that ds was really quite bad with his cranial alignment and that his sinus passage was not doing the drainage it would normally do as ds has quite bad facial structures. Having done some more research today, It seems that this might be the answer to all our problems.

Most of the sites suggest that if the cranial alignment is not correct then all sorts of things can happen with the sinus and the ears and even behavour. So many things that they have written make a whole lot of sense after reading all about it today.

I was wondering if anyone else has done this therapy before or even if you have looked into it and any thoughts on the matter. I am at wits end for the poor fellow , he seems to suffer from headaches all the time and his teacher was concerned (he just started grade 1) that he isn't trying to concentrate, these sites suggest that this therapy will also assist with concentration if the alignment is out of place.

What do any of you think?

Hi I havent heard of this particular type of Osteopathy, however my son has reflux and I got told that instead of putting him on Meds I should do this, I couldnt go through with it though. I got told that since the birthing process is extremely stressfull it can put you out and it can be years before anyone notices.

Whilst I am very cynical, I have heard alot of great storys about it, for all sorts of conditions. From reflux to cancers. I guess if you think it will help your son then you should go for it if it is that bad, just dont be blinded by a potential great end result, make sure you look for the risks as well. I did and with my sons condition I stuck with meds.

Your son sounds alots worse so if you think it will help give it a go. Just make sure you check all of it out not just the good bits. Try to stay strong it cant be easy seeing your son go through this. :hugs: for you.

Keep us posted.
(All of the above is just my opinion, if it doesnt fit with you, please just disregard it)

my cousin in england went to cranial osteopath there for about 1.5 years when she was little (about 6 or 7?). she was treated for ear and throat problems previously and had been very sick with recurring migraines etc but has been pretty much fine since seeing the guy then - i think now she goes to a regular osteopath about twice a year. i don't know much about it but i know it helped her.

i hope your little one is ok :hugs:

I am a HUGE fan of it and a visit to our paediatric osteopath is one of the first visits bubby and I will make when he gets here. Just to get him checked out and nip any problems in the bud.

I am not expecting any problems but the birth process is very hard on the baby's body and sometimes there can be little misalignments which result in pain when turning their head to one side, which causes problems feeding and sleeping which can result in them getting a flat spot. One little "crick" can have a snowball affect.

Good luck.

In the states all babies gat a once-over by a cranial oesteopath as part of their hospital discharge. The same way we have a check over by a pead or midwife. I am still amazed we don't use a similar practice here. There are just soooo many problems with little babies that can be dealt with by aligning their little necks ans backs. Imagine how you feel after being squeezed like thta at birth.

definatly give it a go, i got it done on myself and my slow thyroid problem corrected itself,, sinus head aches went , and i feel like i can see clearer, it is very mild on the head and neck, and your bubs will prolly enjoy it,, if it is out , it is the only way of fixing it, no tablet ever will, you wont regret it..

I can recommend Brisbane Osteopathic Centre 3311 5655. I took my daughter there when she was about 10 months old and the guy I saw was fantastic, she had cranial work done, it is so gentle that I couldn't even tell what he was doing because her head wasn't moving at all, she ended up falling asleep in all the sessin after much protest at the start of each session. After a few visits, she started sleeping through the night. As the others have said, the birth process is quite traumatic for our babies and their joints can be out of place and we don't even know it. I would definately recommend seeing one and would have a second thought about taking my daughter again should I need to.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. i have started this with My son and he has had two sessions so far. his cranial bone is growing down and causing his grief with headaches and sinus infections. Still awaiting a second opinion with a specialist but will have to see what happens . His behaviour is improving somewhat more with each session :fingerscrossed:

My DS had Cranial Sacral Therapy with an Osteopath when he was a newborn due to being a forceps birth. It worked wonders. From what I understand it works well for behavioural problems, including ADD & ADHD.

Both my sons have had this done just as routine after birth, but I've heard lots of good things about it for specific ailments.

I took ds1 and ds2 to an oestopath and it was the best thing I ever did. DS2 is still seeing him but he is getting better. I don't know if it is the same but I would recomend everyone to take their bubs to an osteopath.

i was also wondering whether anyone has used this natural therapy instead of grommits, both my boys have ear and speech problems, which the doctors have said they will grow out of but as yet haven' t. Now my eldest's therapist suggests that he might be able to 'fix' ds' middle ear infections without grommits, I am a little skeptical.

Has anyone else done' this?

Yes, my CHN was telling me she took both her kids.
she was VERY sceptical, but after 3 treatments for both kids, took them back to the doc, and he was amazed the ears were completely clear, no grommits needed.
She also said her kids cried thru all treatments, and it was hard to watch, but she is really glad she went through with it.
