These cookies are so yummy...and I've found they helped boost my own supply. I make them with the baking M&m's - yummy! Careful who eats them, or your partner may start lactating..lol! :D

Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies

Housepoet's Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies
Ingredients :

* 1 cup butter or marg
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 cup brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons water
* 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal*
* 2 large eggs
* 1 teaspoon vanilla
* 2 cups flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
* 1 cup or more chocolate chips
* 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast* (be generous)

Directions:

Preheat oven at 375 degrees F. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes. Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended. Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.

Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

Serves: 6 dozen cookies

Preparation time: 15 minutes

*can be found at any local health food store.
*NOTE* IT MUST BE BREWERS YEAST, NO SUBSTITUTIONS.

I made these for a friend who's having supply issues and they were so flippin' good. You can feel yourself lactating as you nibble on them. ;) If you don't like chocolate, who doesn't like chocolate tho, you can substitute for carob chips, raisins, butterscotch chips, whatever.

OK girls i have made Lactation CUPCAKES.....

1 PACKET CHOC CAKE MIX ( i used the homebrand ones to test this)
2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (soaked in 3 tablespoons of water
2 tablesppons brewers yeast ( i did giant tablespoons so probably closer to 3 if mesured)

mix as per packet directions....

when finished add 1 cup oatmeal and stir through till combined, spoon into patty pans
bake for 10-15 min at temp stated on cake mix pack.....

Apply icing when cool,,,

Mine didnt even get to cool, i ate them hot out of the oven, i just sprinkled icing sugar on them and they where SUPER,,bout to make another batch!!!

Just spoke with a friend of mine who said that you can easily make them vegan, just use soy butter and either no egg or mashed banana or apple puree as the egg substitute. Just made another batch!

breastfeeding muesli

1/2 cup honey
4-5 tbsp oil (sunflower or whatever you got)
3 cups oats (quick cooking)
1 cup almonds
1 cup cashews
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1 cup coconut
1 cup flax meal
1 cup raisins
1 cup dried cranberries
5-6 tbsp flax oil
2 tbsp brewers yeast

preheat oven to 180 fan forced .
heat honey and oil in pot over low heat (just to warm it so it's easier to mix).
mix oats, nuts, seeds, flax meal and coconut in a large bowl.
add honey and oil to oat mixture and mix well.
spread evenly on a baking tray and toast slightly! be careful not to let it burn!
return to large bowl add raisins, cranberries, flax oil and yeast.
store in airtight container in the fridge.

*you can add or change what nuts/seeds/fruit you like or have on hand (i also add 1 cup rice bubbles)*

Friday is baking day so I will be whipping me up a batch of these!!

Hang on - brewer's yeast... I have regular old yeast for baking bread, that's not good enough? Or could I use double the quantity of regular yeast?

cheezelkat
11-07-2006, 23:05
I used the beer making yeast.

I think you can get brewers yeast from a health food store as well!

I think regular yeast would give you bread-cookies, lol ;)

It must be the brewers yeast because I have another recipe for improving milk.
I can't remember the quantities but it is a milk drink of the following
milk
banana
brewers yeast
complan

Mix it all up in a milk shake and drink whenever you can. Its supposed to improve the quality of the milk. I haven't tried it but I will let you know what effect it has.

Oats, flaxseed and brewers yeast all do amazing things to your milk supply. I eat a big bowl of oats everyday, with flaxseed sprinkled on top. Make sure its flaxseed meal though otherwise it will pass straight through you

I went out and bought all these ingredients today :smiliedance:

So I plan on using them... soon... I was wondering someone said the dough was freezable, are the cookies themselves freezable, or how long do they last in the fridge/in a container?

:D

Thanks :)

Also, have a question. Does anyone have an estimate as to the cost of making them? Or even just the cost of the yeast & flaxseed meal???

Now, for the flaxseed - which is linseed - you can buy a big giant bag of the seed from most supermarkets in the health food aisle for less than $5. I store it in the freezer and grind a couple of tablespoons up in a coffee grinder. I think you can buy the meal from some health food stores anyway.

Brewers yeast can be found in the home brew section and you'll need 2 sachets. I can't remember the price off hand :o but it wasn't expensive at all. I'm the queen of cheap and wouldn't have made them if they were too pricey.

I've finally decided to make some of these - even if they don't boost my supply they sound sooo good!!

I don't have a low nsupply but wouldn't mind putting a bit of milk in the freezer for the odd occasion I neeed to leave DD with hubby...

Oh, guess I should get some EBM freezer bags too!!

I got all the ingredients today. The yeast was about $4, the flaxseed was $6. I got some Cadbury dark choc bits to put in them :chef:

Just one thing, does it really take 2 cups of sugar??? Thats alot of sugar. Also, the brown sugar I have is the dark, sticky type stuff, is that right?

Thanks for that info on the supply  The cookies sound good but I really wanted to know whether they really did work.

Do you think it would be good to make some before I'm due and take them into hospy with me?? Guess it can't hurt can it.

I am definitely sceptical but I have just made these cookies. I halved the recipe but put in more brewer's yeast and flaxseed than indicated and less chocolate. Actually I cheated and used LSA mix (linseed, sunflower and almond) because I figured that'd be even healthier. They do taste good.

Oh yum, just made a batch of these and they are delicious! I didn't actually bake them for me but I had to try one or ten, eh?!
I added about two teaspoons of ground fennel as well - fennel is good for colicky windy babies as my baby brother is a windy little man. The fennel gives the cookies a yumnmy aniseed taste.

Mmmmm Yum, must try these too.

Ive been worried lately as my supply was excellent in the hospital could get at least 200ml from just 1 side now its gone down to 100ml for both sides.

Feeling terrible thinking William isnt getting enough - so will definitely try these. Especially now he seems to have gone from 3 - 4 hour feeds to 2 hour feeds during the day.

Will let you all know if they work for me

Hi,

Just a couple of quick questions for anyone who has tried these cookies and they have worked.

How long does it take to boost the supply?

How many cookies per day do you need to increase the supply?

I made some today and they are yummy - I made mine a bit on the big side too, but I halved the recipe to try them out first.

Thankyou to anyone that can give me an answer to these questions.

LadyLou

So far I've made two batches and DH ate most of them :shame:. He even took them to work, all the guys were eating them till he told them they were his wife's BF bickies - they got worried about lactating then and wouldn't eat anymore, I think DH only told them so he could have them all to himself :devil6:.

Not sure how many you need to eat before they increase your supply - I just ate heaps cause they were yummy. I did notice an increase in supply though. Usally noticed it with the early morning feed after eating them all day! It's really hard to stop at one!

I get the brewers yeast from Big W, it's $0.98 per pack and I use 5 packs. The flaxseed I got at the healthfood store and it was only $2.50 (big bag). I have been thinking they might be nice with saltanas too.

Now to make them and hide them from DH....

These are good & they did work for me

I had so much of the ingredients left over, that I still make them (DS & DH LURVE THEM TOO!!!), so I continuously make them - a batch a week

Sandra/Paul - I dare you to only eat just one  Anyway, sorry, not sure how many you have to eat to increase supply, but you really just can't stop at one, they are great!!!

BTW - my sister breastfeeds, so I sent her some that I had made to see if they worked for her........she totally loved them, but they did nothing for her supply

On the subject of cost. For the exact measurments of 2tbsp each of the brewers yeast and flaxseed meal it only cost me in total 55cents from the health food shop,so very cheep.I only ate 2-3 cookies a day and i noticed my supply go up on the second day!! Oh and another hint-if you buy extra flaxseed meal it should be kept in the fridge and only for about a month as apparently it goes rancid after that.Happy munching everyone!!

I made some today! they are super delicious! I've never had a problem with supply but I am going to be a pumping maniac getting ready for my return to work so I figured every little bit counts. Though if i keep eating them - this could be the first time I've ever put on weight while breastfeeding!! LOL

Sandra/Paul
21-05-2007, 15:12
Well I made a batch of cookies using 2 sachets of brewers yeast from Big W (I only made half the recipe). Didnt really notice too much of a difference.

I got some more brewers yeast from the health food shop a big bag for $8 - made some more cookies yesterday, had a few:o and felt full most of the night, pumped this morning and got a 100ml bottle out of it - fantastic stuff, and that was after feeding William.

MUST EAT MORE COOKIES

jojojonsey
21-05-2007, 21:12
Ok so I have been eating the cookies! They are delicious! I have also been expressing like a maniac and have noticed that I am getting about 10 mil more than average which isn't huge. BUT on looking at the difference between pre-cookie milk and post cookie milk there seems to be a distinct difference in quality. The cookie milk looks more like full cream as opposed to the non cookie milk which looks like reduced fat.

One thing I will say though - and I don't know if it is a coincidence BUT since the day that I made the cookies Bubs has been sleeping through from 8.30pm til 5.30am!!! That's three nights with a demand fed baby whose longest ever previous sleep prior to this was 5 hours.

So let's see what happens when the run out (by the way DP & the kids are eating them that won't be long!!)

If you would prefer not to use sugar try substituting for natural honey which is good for you ;) When using honey in baking it helps it stay fresh and moist longer.

To use honey in baking follow these guidelines:

Reduce the amount of liquid in the recipe by 1/4 cup for each cup of honey used
add 1/2 tspn of baking soda for each cup of honey
Reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees (F) to preven overbrowning.

Finally found time to make these tonight (well actually put DD in DH's arms!), so hopefully it will help my supply. Quick question, when should you have them to notice a difference? If I want my supply to be better at night, should I have them at night or during the day, and how many should I have?

It must be the brewers yeast because I have another recipe for improving milk.
I can't remember the quantities but it is a milk drink of the following
milk
banana
brewers yeast
complan

Mix it all up in a milk shake and drink whenever you can. Its supposed to improve the quality of the milk. I haven't tried it but I will let you know what effect it has.

Hi just wondering what are the measurements for this drink - i might give it a go.

and unfortantly, DH and the kids wont make milk either,( might make feed time a little easier if they did..hehe) but they will like them, think of the extra fibre and nutrients they will be getting.

Im making my third batch now.
I have ever only used half the amount of sugar, and im a sweet tooth and found them still good.
Im using just 1 cup of brn sugar this time, been told it will make them taste more carmel flavour.
I have made orignal reciepe.
Coconut and apricots, good but not as sweet as first reciepe.
Now making choc chip and cherry ones...

I divided the mixture into 4, bake 1 lot and roll the other 3 in seperate lots in cling warp and freeze.
I then take out and cut while still frozen and bake when i run out.

So have people found it best to freeze the dough then remove from freezer and cook when needed ( and if so did you freeze in balls or a log shape??) or do you freeze the baked cookie then defrost as needed??

Freeze - ha! Just eat it raw!!!! Sorry - little out of control there... Honestly, after stapling my lips together next time, I will freeze half the mix in a log shape, then just carve it up when I need it... Despite the suggestion, my first batch only made 2 1/2 dozen, not 6 dozen and while I did eat some of it, I just made really huge cookies :yelclap: .

I got my brewers yeast from the health food shop for $8.58 for 500g.

Flaxseed I just got from the supermarket but I got seed instead of the powdered form. Doesnt really matter though - cant remember how much that was....would have been around the $3 mark

These biscuits are so yummy and so easy to make - I had a little trouble with supply during my dd growth spurts and when I got tired and worn out sometimes there was less milk.
Sometimes I would make the biscuits and at one point they were so nice I was eating a few every night with a cuppa and my boobs were hard like rocks...so i will have to omit the brewers yeast i think as i'm sure thats the ingredient that increases the milk

I've experimented with less sugar and different ingredients to suit my tastebuds and my next batch will have white choc buttons, almonds, choc chip and raisins lol

Dd has been was putting on 1 kg every month and the nurse believes its good breastmilk which is great.

Yup! Certainly is!! I took yeast all the time with my first DD (mixed it into cereals, breads, even just on a spoon with some honey!) and BFed her for 15 months. Only stopped when I got pg with no. 2!!! Will definitely try these bikkies, as they sound a LOT more yummy!!!

1/2 cup frozen undiluted orange juice (or any fresh fruit,
a couple of bananas, peaches, blueberries,
strawberries)
1 cup fresh skim milk
1-2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-3 teaspoons Safflower Oil

Blend all the above in a blender. Add: 3/4 cup instant
powdered skim milk, 1/4 - 1/2 cup Brewer's Yeast (may want
to start low and build-up STRONG TASTE). Stir in 2-3 cups skim
milk. Drink at least 1/2 cup at a time, at least 4 times a day
(Brewer's Yeast is available at health food and natural stores.
Also some pharmacies and grocery stores)

Maybe you could make some healthy fruit smoothies (fruit, skim milk, yogurt) and add in a few spoons of brewers yeast..

Not the same i know but a 'healthy' way of having the ingredient to help boost supply..
(the oats and linseed also help to boost supply but wouldn't be much good in a smoothie..)

Just a few questions how many do I need to eat in a day to increase my supply?

I made a batch of these last Saturday and ended up eating heaps of raw batter, it tasted so good! Then (co-incidentally) that night I got a shocking gastro and couldn't keep anything in or down for about 3 days. Once I was back to normal I went to eat some of the cookies - my mind automatically associated them with me feeling ill!! Not fair! So now I will be trying the milkshake tomorrow instead.
What a waste of good cookies!

Okive just been grazing on these cookies over the last 2 weeks and I have noticed an increase in my supply but I have also been taking fenugreek so it could be that.

I agree, pity there isnt a fat free version.

Mischief79- DONT TRY THE MILKSHAKE!!!!:barf:Its disgusting, like a mix of beer and milk! Although I didnt have bananas, could be better with the banana. That will def make you feel like chucking!

I add 2tbs of brewers yeast to a glass of apple juice and that was a bit better I could at least drink it, though its not somethingI can continue it is too gross really. Im gonna stick with the fenugreek and expressing when I can.

Anyone have a better recipe to include brewers yeast but is low fat?

25-02-2008, 20:09
The milkshake wasn't too bad. I made one that's slightly different that someone else gave me. The honey took over the taste for me, and the banana.
Every morning now I have a big bowl of oats and sprinkle on top brewers yeast and flaxseed meal. Bit bland tasting but oh well.
Question - I put 1 TBSP of yeast and 1 TBSP of flaxseed on my oats, is that enough or too much?

well i don't know what i have done wrong but they don't seem to be helping my milk supply. over the last week i have been averaging at least 10 cookies a day (:o probably more if i am honest) and i can't notice a difference. i don't seem to produce more milk and i don't see/taste a difference in my milk either.

what am i doing wrong? i followed the recipe exactly - i did have to use all white sugar in the last batch as i ran out of brown and couldn't get to the shops. i have even increased the brewers yeast in the last batch by adding an extra tablespoon and that still hasn't helped. what ese will increase my milk that i can add to the mixture? or use in a different way?

Belinda - You may not notice a huge difference with them. When I made my first batch my supply was borderline low. After the first batch my supply was ok but still not great.
However after my second batch my supply has incresed quite a bit. This morning when she wouldn't feed (she has a cold) I managed to express 130mls from one breast whereas the other day (when she also wouldn't feed in the morning) I could only get 100mls from BOTH breasts.

Oats, flaxseed and brewers yeast all do amazing things to your milk supply. I eat a big bowl of oats everyday, with flaxseed sprinkled on top. Make sure its flaxseed meal though otherwise it will pass straight through you

Saw a lady at a health food store about a month ago who was due to give birth to her 3rd in 4 weeks time and she had never heard anything about flaxseed and increasing milk supply? but she did mention eating flaxseed seeds will pass straight through u as opposed to eating them ground and that eating ground products of certain foods tend to lose a bit of nutrients. This is just what Ive been told but I did get the flaxseed meal and put heaps on my cereal! I do rolled oats too but she said that the supermarket stuff was a bit more processed than the health food store.

It needs to be flaxseed meal so you will absorb the goodness. Plain unground flaxseed just passes straight through!

I made this recipe for the third time today and used only half the amount of butter and it came out just perfect. ( I made a double batch and then realised that I only had enough butter and chocolate for one batch, so I just used what I had)

Just a little less fattening ;)

Hi,
Well i made these cookies today and they sure are good, my kids and hubby loved them to.
I took the recipe with me to the health food shop and although the lady had never heard of it she to agreed that it would be exellent for lactation and also bowel movements and on top of that,,BRAIN FOOD !!! even better. She believed the purpose of the flaxseed meal was its Omega 3 content and also its Lignans which are exellent for healthy breasts,,
i Googled Lignans and i will copy a paragraph i found below:

What conditions are lignans used
for?
Lignans are most commonly used in women’s
health and especially are being studied
for their protective effects against breast cancer.
Lignans are also used for reducing the
symptoms of menopause like hot flushes,
mood swings and breast tenderness. Other
conditions where lignans may be helpful include
heart health, colon cancer, hair loss,
acne and inflammation. Some terrific research
has been published in the area of dementia,
showing that postmenopausal women who
have a diet rich in lignans have better cognitive
function than women who don’t. Men
aren’t left out though—there are also some
promising studies suggesting that lignans may be protective in prostate conditions for men.

So they have my vote  not only are they good for you, they taste yummy to.

OG. THese are amazing. My paediatrician put me on domperidone to increase lactation, telling me that i might suffer from lightheadedness as the only side effect. Hmmm - turns out inability to sleep is another side effect. So I immediately went off the drugs and tried this recipe. Within ONE HOUR my breasts were much fuller and bubs is much happier. I'm going to take this recipe to my paediatrician and my health food store - it is that good.

They have nothing in them to harm you, i asked the health food store if it would be ok for the kiddies to eat, she reckons they are fine, yes they have alot of sugar etc but they do make a massive batch of biscuits so they probably have less than store brought cookies when you take that into account....anyway they might be good for you in pregnancy if you suffer constipation  as the flaxseed meal gives your bowels a super clean out!! and it also is rich in omega 3 so it is a great start for your bubs brain!!

As for making cupcakes... I think it'd be great! Just add a few tablespoons of the flax and brewers yeast with a few tabelspoons of water to your normal cupcake recipe and it should work out great!! If you try it out, let us know how it goes!! :chef:

well i am not planning on gettin pregnant anytime soon so not intending them for lactation :p but these sound so delish that i want to make them right now! only i have no flax seeds or brewers yeast. can i get either of these from the health food section of the supermarket or fo i have to go to a health food shop?

but of course if i make them i shall take pics :D and let you know what they taste like :D

LOL me to, the flaxseed from what i can gather is for the bowel and its the Brewers yeast that helps increase your milk, i googled lactating cookies and found a fair few things but the all had both flaxseed meal and the yeast!

I havent seen any changes in bubs bowel movement , only my own
It is because oatmeal, flaxseed meal and brewers yeast are all great for the stomach, people who are generally on a low fibre type diet sometimes find the go to the toilet more frequently untill there body adjusts to the higher fibre intake. Brewers yeast wont cause THRUSH or anything as it is not actually a live yeast like bakers yeast is. It is an exellent source of B group vitaims and flaxseed is exellent source of Omega ( found in fish)
If you want to find out all the benifits just google them.

i like to make my cupcakes from scratch so i will try that...um where exactly do i find the flaxseed, my supermarket only had flaxseed oil so i dont know if thats suitable. i can look in the health food shop. i am assuming thats where you get it....where do you get brewers yeast? is that brewers in a brand or that yeast they use for homemade beer. sorry if i am a bit clueless :o

I got the Brewers yeast, flaxseed meal and oatmeal at the healthfood shop. It cost me about 24 bucks but i have ooddles of ingedients. like enough for 50 batches!!! i know at some healthfood stores you can buy quantities of stuff by the scoop but at the one i went to it was all prepackaged. I got organic oats as the healthfood lady said they where less processed and even better for you.
Oh i bet yr cupcakes will be better than mine!! Yum Homemade will be even better.....
My kids loved them!

I know this post is pretty old now but I was curious if anyone knows where to get Complan in Australia? I usually have to bring it back with me when I go to NZ as I haven't been able to find any here (it's particularly good for when you have morning sickness or are generally ill & don't want to eat much)...so if someone knows where to get it, it'd make life a bit easier ;)

To the member who puts brewers yeast and linseed on her oats every morning (don't have time to go back thru this thread to find it...) you must have a pretty strong stomach! I tried it and ended up with soooo much sugar with it that it wasn't worth it!

I dont know if my expectations were too high after reading this thread, but im not a fan of the cookies..i did put extra brewers yeast, just to make sure i get more milk, and i did use breakfast muesli instead of plain rolled oats, could that be why?

Not sure if thats why, but maybe make another batch with the thick cut rolled oats and use dark choc chips, i find they have a better taste.

Also, how many cookies per day (given that I have no self control!) is recommended?

janiceg
20-03-2009, 11:03
here's a muesli recipe i make for those that don't want to eat cookies all day! i love it, hope you do, too!

breastfeeding muesli

I shopped for the ingredients a couple of weeks ago .... suprised when you said cheap at the health food store I was a little sceptical but it was true lol...alot cheaper then little packets of brewers yeast and flaxmeal at woolies.

Anywho .... I made some and they worked well.... DD was much happier with my boobies......They were tasty though weren't something I craved to eat.... but tonight I the erge to make cookies... so i started with kinda plain sweet cookies with maple syrip in them then thought about these ones and then added the oats, brewers yeast and flaxmeal.... and omgness yummmmmmmm....they are gooey and sooo goood lol

I have a question about the oats - the recipe says oats, thick cut if you can get them.

Everyone seems to be using rolled oats but aren't these not rolled rather than cut? I have some cut oats but they look like little pieces of wheat as opposed to rolled porrige oats.

Does anyone know if it matters or it it should be one or the other?

I used only i cup of brown sugar, left out the white and put a little honey in instead. Also put in two tbls of vanilla instead of one.

Half the batch had choc chips(for the kids) and my batch had sultanas and apricots..I cant have the choccie due to DS having bad reflux..

27-06-2009, 11:17
You don't have to eat the cookies to get the benefit.

The active ingredients are oats, brewers yeast and the linseed meal. You can add these to your diet for the same effect. You could have porridge for breakfast with some linseed on it, slug a glass of water down that contains a couple of spoonfuls of brewers yeast. Drink oat milk once or twice a day.

hth, also remember to keep your water intake up. Your pee should be very light yellow. If it is dark yellow, you need to drink a lot more water.

Just have her feed as often as possible or as often as she wants. It may be the comfort of your breast, more than the milk she is seeking. You probably still have some milk, and the more she feeds, the more it will build.

You can get drugs, but they are not without side effects. A doctor would probably be a bit reluctant to prescribe them to relactate for a 15 month old.

Start eating/ drinking the things I outlined above and take some fenugreek capsules.

hth.

I am trying to shed the baby weight, not put on weight!!!!!!!!! So is it the yeast and oats that are best for supply as I am thinking I might just add the left over yeast to my porridge once I polish off this lot of cookies........... YUM

I think they are probably intended to assist in the increase of an existing supply, rather than prompt someone to start spontaneously lactating if they aren't already. There are probably other options for your sister, if she hasn't already discussed it with her GP or a lactation expert. I know there are some drugs (primarily hormone treatments I think) which facilitate lactation. Whether they are safe to take while pg is something I have no idea. I'd talk to some healthcare experts about it :) Good luck to her!

ETA - I've just realised she's likely had her baby already, so I hope everything worked out for her :)

Forgive me if this question has been asked previously, I haven't read over the whole thread.. Can the mixture be made, and then frozen (perhaps into balls, ready to bake?) and then bake at a later date? I am wondering if it would be a good idea to make them up and have it ready in the freezer, if I have time, bake them while I am in early labour (gives me something to do, lol) or have dp make them for me.. but can you eat them right after giving birth, will it make my milk come in quicker? (I want bub to get a good amount of colostrum first?)

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mummy2Amelia ,

I have no idea about eating them early and milk coming in early sorry. I didn't try them until bub was nearly a month old sorry.

However, on the freezer front I can offer that I freeze them in a log shape wrapped in cling film and can slice off a few whenever I want them and bake without defrosting the whole lot. I do that with lots of different recipes. I didn't find any difference with supply boosting after them being frozen either.

Good luck.

Hi, im a new member to bubhub :) as i to was looking to increase my supply. Would like to create a stash of EBM so i can go to movies but only can get about 50mls from each boobie in between feeds like 2 hrs after i have fed miss 2. I would like to get more so i dont have to spend alot of my time expressing. So it takes me about 2 weeks to get 2 bottles worth so i can go out for a bit. I have made my first batch of these tonight so am hoping they work. I have also been taking breastfeeding support tabs which contain feneugreek & blessed thistle also i find porridge does wonders for supply. I went from not getting that full feeling to getting that full feeling each feed especially after porridge. These cookies are sooo yummy:D but cant be good for the waistline:( i have already ate 4 out of my 2 dz woops i have frozen a few to.

i started eating them before i gave birth but they were so yummy and i was so hungry all the time. i also took a huge snap lock bag full with me to the hospital. for some reason i am always starving when i am breastfeeding and i knew from precious children that i would be raiding the vending machines at 2am looking for food. so it did save me a wander around the hospital pushing ds2 in the cot. i TRY to limit myself to 6 per day but it never works out like that so i try to make a batch last me at least 10 days. dh loves them too. and so do the kids.

i have found that the bikkies taste better if you cream the sugar and butter together until its almost white then start adding the other stuff. just watch when using your mixer as the dough gets really thick and i have actually blown up my old mixer because the mix was just too thick (that was without adding the oats or all of the flour.) after i have added all the liquid i mix the flour in with a wooden spoon instead of the mixer.

How soon can you eat these? Can it be a couple of days before your due? Or should you eat them after you have given birth? :o

Suppose I could bake some, then freeze them and then defrost them and eat them once I have given birth.

How long can you keep them frozen?
Does anyone know?? :D
They last a good few months frozen... but I have to admit, I only know this because I lost some that were in the back of my freezer and rediscovered them later :o
Though I wouldn't freeze them after baking, I freeze mine before, already rolled. They pull apart easily when they're pulled out of the freezer and you just have to put them on a baking tray and leave them in for an extra minute or two :D Yuuummy
I wouldn't bother eating them before you have bubs though, because it affects milk, not so much colostrum :)

How many of these should you eat a day, I would love to boost my supply but I don't want to over do it and bust out! They are just so addictive even my husband loves them!!
lol I have no idea of how many optimal intake is, but I've eaten... uhm.. a LOT before and never had *too* much of a problem :)

Thanks for the receipe, it looks like they are workiking, judging by the responces. DS is 11.5 weeks old and he's going through growth spurt,so i want to try these cookies. I have one problem tho. My let-down is very fast, and DS is drowning in milk...sp breastfeeding wasn't so relaxing the past few weeks. Last few days is beeing much better so both DS and i are enjoying breastfeeding again. Does anyone know if boosting my supply will have any effect on the let-down? Is it boosting in quantity or quality? Ta
They affect both quality and quantity. Best thing I found for that let down problem is pull bub off, catch with either a clean bottle/milk bag then return to boob, or even just into a clean facewasher works too :)

WOW!!! Cheers for that, I'm DESPERATELY hoping to breast feed my soon to be born bub... I know a few people who have had issues with breast feeding & I'm REALLY hoping I'm not one of them as my heart is SET on breast feeding, by choice NOT because some 'health nurse' has brain washed me ;)

I'm hoping I won't need much help, but I'll definitely be giving your recipe a go to see how I go ;)

THANKYOU for posting it :D

I gave these a go a couple of days ago and I can't say I've noticed a difference in my production but they're healthier cookies than what I usually make and the kids still like them so I'd probably make them again :)

I notice a difference in supply. I can only eat like 3 per day & I still get engorged. Good for if I want to do ebm...

I combined eating these and drinking nursing tea all day and I had my milk in 4 days after a cold csection under a general at 35+6. The lactation consultant in NICU was impressed but has never heard of lactation cookies or nursing tea and STILL kept trying to get me on motilium even though I was expressing 100ml every 3 hours AFTER a BF.
