I am hoping someone can give me some advice as I am getting worried :crying:. Bubs has started childcare one week ago and therefore I am now giving him cups of milk during that time but I am b/f in the morning and evening. He is also having solids and is 7 months.

Last night when I b/f after he had about 100ml of formula prior, he coughed (he has a cough at the moment) and projectiled vomited it all up, a very large amount. He has done the same tonight after waiting over an hour before b/f since his formula and after he had eaten some puree apple. I was told that formula and b/f can cause this. I am now worried about him dehydrating tonight:eek: I b/f him through the night 11.30, 1.45, 4, 5.30 - he wakes alot.

Am I doing something wrong? I am going to make sure tomorrow he doesn't have formula too soon before I breastfeed. Is this the cause or do you think he is just sick and it is the cough making him do this. Hasn't happened during the day just in the early evening. Poor little thing, haven't seen him be sick like that before. Any advice?

hi debster, i hope things have been better for you since you posted this.

i am not sure of the vomiting being from combining breastfeeding and formula, i haven't heard of this. i do know my bubba's had occasional huge vomits when they were very full. (just breastmilk and feeding for a long time).

it's awful when they are sick and a cough can set off a vomit. is he tolerating the formula okay at other times?

perhaps he doesn't really need the extra feed at that time, (but maybe you are introducing it for going back to work? not sure?) it sounds like he is getting lot's of feeds at night and this will keep those fluids up to him.

my babies seem to like to just breastfeed little and often while they are sick and i find it reassuring that they are getting lot's of antibodies and other goodies to help them get better.

happy mothering

I am also bf and on the last feed giving a comp feed of formula .
I bf my bub first then give her ff she loves it and dosent have any probs.
I dont think its a prob todo both it could be your formula im currently using karikare senicare suggested by our peadeatrician,It is a little gentler on the immune system.
He may be throwing up due to his illness and hopefully settles down . goodluck:fingerscrossed:

thanks for your replies, it seems to be settling down so I think it is because he has had a cough/cold and his runny nose is running down his throat. I have tried dimetapp - which I don't like doing but seems to have fixed the problem. It is scary though to see them be sick like that.
