My baby is 4.5 months old. He has been using the infant insert with the ergo except lately we are finding it very hard to get him into a comfortable position with it. He's just too big for the infant insert.

we were wondering whether when can we stop using the insert? I read somewhere that we can once our baby has good head control and can "splay" his legs...he has great head control but he doesnt like splaying his legs..

any idea what i can do?? should i persist with the infant insert?? how do i know when he is happy to "splay" his legs?

DS2 is not yet three months old and I have just started using the ergo without the infant insert for the same reasons as you. I just put him in the ergo with his legs tucked up similar to using the insert. He is comfy and well supported in that position so I guess it's okay.

I put DS4 in it without the insert at 4 months and he seems pretty happy. If bub doesn't like having his legs splayed, tuck them inside in a froggy position. I think the Ergo website may have a picture tutotial on how to do it.

Someone else asked this question a little while ago, and one of the suggestions was to fold the infant insert up and put it under bubs bum, at the bottom of the ergo, then splay bubs legs, just means that they don't have to splay there legs as much and makes it a bit more comfortable for them.
Worked for my DS :D.

I use it with DS who is 4 months. He is happy in it without the infant insert, loves looking around at all the new things!

I think DS was about 5 months when I changed him from the HAB to the Ergo. Their legs go in similar positions in both, but the Ergo is more structured, and doesn't support their heads as well. So I would just try him in it and see how he goes, he might be fine.
