Hi, My partner and I recently moved to the Gold Coast from England. We are having our first baby in December and are having a wonderful time getting ready for the arrival. There's only 1 thing missing - friends and family to share the experience :(
Please get in touch if you'd like to natter about all baby matters, any advice would be greatly welcome to!
Hope to hear from you soon,
Hels

Hi Hels,

We are in the same boat as you, I'm due first bub 21 Oct, and like you we moved from the UK- lived in England, though I'm scottish. We settled in Melbourne and also have no family here :( . Don't get me wrong I absolutely love being here but would like to have family around now. Friends aren't yet close enough to share all this with- although I bet we'll make good ones through our babies.

If you ever fancy a chat either about bubs, to reminise over the old country, moan about anything, compare notes, shhot the breeze or whatever just give me a shout, you can either PM me here or email me nickistevens47@hotmail.com

Good luck with bubs and the Gold Coast

Nicki

Hey girlies, ceud mille failte!
i am scottish (a weegie in fact and proud of it) and have just had a wee girl 5 months ago. I am living in Sydney and have done for three years now. I have some aussie mates who are brilliant but i miss the scottish sense of humour. i also get a bit fed up having to speak slowly and shorten my vowels to be understood. I live in Mosman, so if there are any other scots mums wanting to chat or such, i'd love to hear from you.

Guilty as charged FunF...I dont know what it is with my brain and the thick Scots accent....but the two just dont compute!
Though I understand Billy Connolly..why is that?

Hels: Could you have found a more opposite destination climate wise from England to the Gold Coast?!
I hope you've got lots of sunblock with you!

Welcome to you both.
I hope you enjoy the forum.

Welcome to Bubhub and Australia :D

I am from the UK too, been here coming on 8 years expecting my first baby in March.
It's hard to make friends and leave the ones we have known for years behind! But over time it will get easier!

Meanwhile enjoy yourself here it's a lot of fun!

Eliza Poppy is such a great name! Ours is Isabella Daisy. We might steal yours if we have another girl some time!

Hi Hels,

I have been in Sydney 2 years now and have a eight month old daughter. I am from Ireland but lived in blightly for many years. Hope you are enjoying yourself here. Can I suggest that you invest in a good webcam - a great way of keeping in touch with your friends and family. I would be lost without Yahoo Messenger.

Hello

I am from London, but living with hubby (who is an aussie, ironically from the Gold Coast) in Sydney. We have a little girl, Emily who is almost 6 months old now.

Like you I was concerned about not having friends and family here, but things have been fine. I have a great network of friends now who have children (I knew no one with a baby here before I had Emily) and am meeting new people all the time. I found my Mums Group to be a fantastic starting point and have just made an effort to talk to people I see with babies the same age as Em.

Good luck!

Claire
p.s. I have a couple of friends due in Dec too who are from the UK but now living here. I can put you in touch.

I'm also from UK, now living in Western suburbs (NSW). Been here for 15 months, feeling lonely too, Anyone know of any new mums groups nr Parramatta? My first baby is due on 1st January 2006, feeling heavy but excited, not sure of the sex, hence "Poppet"! Can anyone help??
