sorry this is a bit long... need to rant...
DP and I are currently living with my parents and have been saving so we could get a new car and then move out...
well over the weekend, some friends of ours told us that their rental property in springfield lakes was empty and had been for 2 weeks without anybody interested in it...
i rang the real estate yesterday, and got told that the only time they could take us for an inspection was at 11 am today... this wasn't that convenient for us (as i had a doctors appointment at 10 and DP started work at 12), but i said thats fine anyway...
we got out there about 5 mins early, were made to wait in their office for 15 minutes, then they came out and said they already had an application on the property and did we still want to have a look at it?... we said yes because we knew the owners and they had told us that they would rather have us in it because they knew we would look after it...
we had a look at it (it was sooooooo nice), told them we liked it and got an application form... the rental lady told us that if we wanted it, we had to bring the application back by 1pm because she was going on holiday tomorrow and wouldn't have any time to process it... i said fine... (even tho it was going to be a race to get DP to work, get home and fill out the application, get all the **** you need for it, and get back there)
i dropped DP off at work, raced home, filled it out, called the owner to check with him if it was alright for us to have our cat (they didn't want pets in the house, but said yes for us) and he offered to be 1 of our referees, raced back to agents office, handed in our application, told them i had called the owner about the cat and that he was 1 of our referees... explained about DP having no i.d... they said fine and we'll contact you when we know which applicants the owners have decided on...
i come home, relax for a bit b4 everybody comes home and i have to make dinner... about 1.5hr ago the phone rings and it the agents telling me the owners have decided on another applicant, which is fine with me...
BUT... the owners just came over about 20mins ago and tells me what really happened... he called the real estate and they told him we came in and did our application, but they had already told some other ppl they could have the property... he's so angry... i didn't think they had the authority to do that?
i'm so sick of dealing with stupid real estate ppl... most of them are soooo rude... the girls at this particular office were completely horrible to me and then had the nerve to ask me if i was interested in any of their other properties... i could have been such a ***** to them, but i was really nice and said no thank you...

Far out what a day you have had, i think you need an alcohloic beverage after that!!! Real estate agents to sux, i alway try and rent private if i can to take the stress out of it all. Your situation seem way too unfair, how can they promise to someone else when you were prefered:mad: .
Im hopefully moving in 6 weeks and we have to rent:banghead: and im soooo not looking foward to all the stuff that goes with finding a place, and if it is through a real estate, better prepare myself now for the hassel i could face.
Soory to hear about your shocking day, i hope tomorrow bring a smile to your face.

we can't do that. It is up the owner of the property. They decide who goes in there. Tell him to talk to the senior property manager or the owner of the real estate office.

I agree - get the owners to put their foot down with the Real Estate agents - its is their mistake, they'll have it fix it! It will be an awkward phone call for them (the Real Estate agents) to make, but they shouldn't have told the other people they could have the property in the first place!

I hate renting too! We've just been kicked out of our place as it has been sold, and have just signed a new lease, so will be glad to be out of the market again!

*Puts real estate hat on*

Its the owners decision, the agents cant make a decision for them. They usualy ring the owners and say 'we have 2 applications and we recommend you take applicant #1 because of this, this and this" and then the owners make a decision.

If the owners really want you to rent from them they need to call the principle of the agency and tell them to fix it.

Good luck :fingerscrossed:

thanks everybody for your replies... it looks like i'm not moving anywhere in a hurry... i crashed my car this morning while driving DP to work... it was only minor, but my 1st crash, so it was very scary... i hit the back end of another car, they only have red paint marks on their car, but i need a new grill and radiator... bonnet has a slight crease in it as well...
mum took me to the doctor afterwards, bubs is fine:) , i'm just a little bruised from the seat belt:( ... i was so worried about the baby, but he/she is fine...
so i'm no longer even looking for houses:banghead: ... its going to be a new car for me...

Ohhh, you poor thing! I'm so glad you and bubs are okay.

Rotten bloody real estate agents! They're not all bad - but there are enough bad ones out there to give even the fantastic ones a bad name!

FYI Public transport in Springfield is a joke. And don't bother trying to ride a bike anywhere. I spent 11 months commuting by bike from Springfield to the city daily and I had zillions of near misses. Also, if you're not a confident driver, avoid the Centenary Highway at all costs. Despite always doing the speed limit (or maybe 5km/h over), I used to get tailgated along there almost every single time I drove there.

We bought our place in Springfield after having spent 18 months living in Woodridge and trust me, I consider SL no better than Woodridge. If I were you, I'd save my bucks and rent somewhere cheap like Woodridge or Kingston - at the end of the day, if you're only renting, does it really matter that much where you live. Spend the money you save on saving for a deposit on a house in a decent area. The only problem with renting in an ordinary area is the quality (or lack thereof) of surrounding schools, but given that you haven't even given birth yet, this shouldn't be an issue.

Poor poor you! What a bad time! :hugs:

We are also about to move to a new rental, and were a bit shocked that we now have to pay for water... DP and I have lived in 7 rentals between us and have never had to pay for that... new council rules apparently.

I have been trying for a week and a half to get in touch with our current crappy real estate agent to give notice, but he won't return my calls... dont' know why I bothered, should have just sent it in writing then but I wanted to know how much rent we still needed to pay etc.

Renting can be a real pain!!

But we are moving to a very very nice house now. I just have to focus on that!
