i just wanted to share my joy :D

we began cc last night and deep down i was thinking "this is never going to work"

then... within the hour bub had fallen asleep...zzz

this morning it took about 20 mins (and alot less crying) and he is still asleep 1.5hrs later (that NEVER happens, usually 40min sleeps)

but i am a bit confused about night waking  bub is just 6 months old and is currently waking 2-3 times a night. however, he is getting over a cold and is also teething. so, i don't know wether i should be refusing to feed ( or maybe only feeding once) or allowing him to feed every time?? i don't really like the idea of not feeding him if he needs the comfort due to teething or is thirsty/hungry due to having been unwell?? hoping this will pass as teeth come through and he fully recovers??

any suggestions oh wise mothers who have already travelled this path? :)

The decision to feed during the night is one that only you can make but my experience is that if you fall into the habit of feeding them thinking they need comfort, you end up feeding them several times a night and getting less and less sleep. (This is from someone who has just done cc for the 6th or 7th time with my 9 month old as I keep feeding her in the night when I think she needs comfort!)

The general advice is that they don't need food during the night after 6 months, so maybe if you think he needs comfort try another form of comfort? Otherwise, do what you need to do and then know that when he is well and happy again you can use the CC techniques again - and it will be quicker the next time!

Hi Jembelina. Congratulations - it's such a big decision isn't it. We started doing cc with ds about a month ago and he's terrific now (he's 6.5 months). We hardly ever have more that a few minutes crying at the most.

I stopped feeding him during the night about a couple of weeks ago too, and now we just go and pop the dummy in and he goes back to sleep. We're hoping to wean him off the night dummy in the next few months. He has never really wanted it during the day. He is teething too (first one popped up yesterday) so he might be a bit more unsettled, but I really think he's enjoying a routine.

Hope the cc continues to go well. We found the first week was a bit difficult, but it really hasn't taken him long to get the message. Hopefully your little one will respond quickly too.

Hi,

Just wanted to mention that I was speaking to a mum yesterday who still night feeds her little one who is 15mths old - she knows it is just a habit but finds it hard to refuse that comfort!! She is due for her second bub in about 5 weeks so no doubt night feeds will have to stop!!

Personally we started CC at about 6ths of age - bubs is now nearly 1yr old and CC still works unless she is teething!! (we just got another tooth yesterday! the last 2 weeks have been miserable!!) I stopped her night feeds the night she turned 9 months! She woke for her usual 3am feed and I didn't go in. She cried for 40minutes (I counted every minute  ) but then fell asleep. The next night she woke and cried for about 5min I think and since has never woken again!! I knew she wasn't hungry because she was already steadily on solids. I did it because I needed the sleep - selfish maybe but I think it was best for both of us in the end! She now gets a good 11hours sleep straight a night.

Good Luck!
