Hi last year when I was working I got the $600 in my tax, The tax office send centrelink a thing with the details of your tax amounts and earnings etc etc. an then Centrelink sent it to them.
Well Im not sure how it works throught there system but last year thats what happened for me and thats what they said. If not you will get it very close to when you get your tax. :D

Last year we got the $600 plus payment (for each child) with our tax return, it was actually included on the cheque (and written on the return paper part in the breakdown).
Ours was paid directly into my bank account once DH finally got his tax done...which was early June this year  It was paid the day the heck arrived in the mail.

People who hadn't lodged last years tax have received their supplement bbecause they cant lodge this years without having lodged last years. People who do not have to lodge a tax return have started receiving theirs this week and it will continue to be paid until the end of August.
It is not paid through the tax system, it's just they have to reconcile between Centrelink, Child Support and the ATO to determine who is entitled and who is not because of overpayment.

What happens for the delivery of the FTB Supplements can get quite complicated.
Essentially, if it can be delivered through you tax notice of assessment then it will be. If not then it will be direct credited into your bank account.
For those that don't lodge a tax return, of course they won't be paid via the tax notice of assessment and can expect to be paid via direct credit.
Sometimes what happens (especially with couples) is ptr's tax return fnformation doesn't get received by C'link until quite a few days after wife's (assuming they lodge at the same time), so wife's notice of assessment may have been issued by the ato prior to c'link getting the required info to finalise off the assessment of the supplements. Therefore it would be direct credited.
Does all of that make sense?:ecomcity:
**Okay stupid question here!!**
Whats the $600 for?

Mel:-the $600 they are talking about is the FTB A supplement
The Family Assistance Website-a bit of everything
http://www.familyassist.gov.au/internet/FAO/fao1.nsf
About the Family Tax Benefit Supplements for 04/05-from the website
The Family Tax Benefit Supplement payments will be paid from 17 July 2006.
Family Tax Benefit Part A and Family Tax Benefit Part B both include a supplement payment. The supplement will be paid automatically after you and your partner have lodged your 2005-2006 tax returns with the Australian Tax Office and the Family Assistance Office has balanced your Family Tax Benefit payments.
If you and your partner are not required to lodge a tax return you should advise the Family Assistance Office. When you have advised us, we can balance your payments and your supplement will be paid after 17 July 2006.
The supplement is available to all families that are eligible for Family Tax Benefit. However, where families have received too much Family Tax Benefit or Child Care Benefit, the supplement will be used to offset the amount owing.
The maximum rate of Part A supplement for 05/06
$627.80 per child
It is a pro rata payment ($627.80 divided by 365(days in year X days child in your care=FTB A supplement entitlement)
The maximum rate of Part B supplement for 05/06
$306.60 per family

Last year I lodged our tax via etax around mid july and didnt get the supplement until august 9th. I remember because I was in hosi after just having my ds and hubby said there was more money in the bank than what I had said!! Needless to say I went shopping and brought my 10pnd bubba some 00 clothes that would fit him not the 000 outfits we had got him..LOl.
Hi there

I've been wondering the same...I wish they'd just send us all out a letter a month before hand telling us what we'll get and what we have to do to get it :D

Hi Leeny, The FTB Part B supplement was introduced last year but only back dated to 01/01/2005 therefore was only paid at the rate of approx $150 if eligible for full rate.
It is paid dependant on the lowest earners income (between you and your partner) so yes it is income tested and will also be used to offset against overpayments of FTB
From memory it was part of the 05 budget announcements
It is mentioned here:

They can't send a letter out before your payments are reconciled (balanced). They need to wait until after tax returns are lodged and completed by ATO. If they were to send out letters before hand, what would happen is that they would reconcile the payments then send a letter and wait for a month before issuing the payment. I don't think to many people would be happy for this to happen. Or a letter would go out with incorrect amounts and entitlements on them, then when payments were finalised and went through they would be wrong. I don't think people would be happy about that either.
It would be nice though to be advised so far in advance but it's just not an option due to they way the supplements work.
