I know that this might be really far-fetched but is there a link between a baby who has had reflux and doesn't put anything in his mouth?

My DS2 is now 8 months and he rarely puts anything in his mouth to suck on except for his fingers. It just seems so strange to me because all the other babies I see are always sucking on whatever they can grab.

Also, he won't eat anything that isn't fully pureed. Even if its mashed, he will gag on the first mouthful and then refuse to eat anymore. Could this also be linked?

I know I might sound a little crazy but my DS1 at this age was eating pasta and bread and we are not even close to that with DS2. At one stage I was thinking of doing BLW but I don't think it is possible because I doubt he would even attempt to put it in his mouth.

Do I sound mad? :dizzy:

No you do not sound mad at all.

Did you say your son has reflux? If he does he may be afraid to put anything in his mouth because he feels he may bring it up, or he has that burning sensation in his oesophagus-i hope i spelt that right!

If i were you i'd take bubs to get him checked out by a doc so they can look at his throat, windpipe etc to see if everything is working properly. Has he seen anyone about this issue before? My sons were eating bread & pasta too at 8 months so i can understand this is a little worrying.

Good luck to you

No, you don't sound mad, but I'd get him checked out . Start with your MHN if you can't get into the GP. A MHN can give you referrals if needs be.

My kids where opposite, my chucker put everything in her mouth except a dummy and still does, and my non-reflux DS never put anything in his mouth except his dummy.

My son was a happy chucker but always has put anything he can get his hands on into his mouth. At 8 months he was only wanting pureed food though. He now eats lumpy stuff & feeds himself very messily so try not to worry too much.

Thanks for that.

He has a paed appointment at the beginning of December so I might just wait until then and see what he has to say.
