View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a good dishwasher?

I've finally had to come to terms with the fact that our million year old dishwasher has had it :( (it was the litres of water all over the floor at every wash that tipped me off, and the water pouring out of the rusted out back!).

Does anyone have one that they like? I'd like one that isn't too noisy and doesn't use too much water but I have no idea what to even begin thinking about buying.

Thanks

We just recently bought a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher. it is the one that has 2 drawers. It cost about $1300. It's abit more on the expensive side but well worth it. You can have both drawers running or just one going. It does not use anymore water and it also have a child lock on it. Which is fantastic for parents who have children with busy fingers

Well I do a pretty good job but I am really expensive

I have a stainlesss tell Hella which has been pretty handy since we've had it (about 2 years). I guess it is a mid-range one - it cost between $600 and $700 (I think - DP bought it for me for a present).

We have a Miele and it is really good. It is very quiet and washes the dishes really well.

Yep we bought an LG for our old house and it was excellent.Very quiet, excellent water rating. Then we sold our house:( So when we renovate our kitchen, I'll be definitely going with that one again. You could set it so it would wash during the night, and it heats its own water.

Here's my model! (http://au.lge.com/md/product/prodcategorylist.do?actType=detail&currPage=1&categoryId=0200000404&parentCategoryId=0200000004&categoryLevel=3&productId=1100000378)

You should have taken it with you when you moved. That's what I'll be doing if we ever get a dishwasher.

The CHOICE magazine did a report on dishwashers this month. What is your price range/limit and I can let you know which ones they recommended if you like.

We have a Fisher & Paykal 2 drawer dishwasher which is great.

The F&P one that my parents have doesn't have the drawers, it's just the regular dishwasher. It has a childproof lock on it.....which was very handy when my kids were little.

We recently went dishwasher shopping and the majority of them come out now with child locks on them which is so handy with little ones around. We have the 2 drawer F&P dishwasher and it's great. And it has 2 child locks on it. One where it locks just the buttons and the other one locks the buttons and the drawer itself

I can tell you what one not to buy... an Omega. It was here when we moved in back in Janurary. It doesn't fit our dinner plates without the spinning-arm-thinggos smacking into them...gee, real practical! I'm not talking huge platters here, just normal dinner-plates.
Come to think of it, the Omega oven is under-sized too...

Thanks heaps everyone - we're hoping to go looking this weekend, but it helps to have some recommendations (and to know what to avoid) I'll check if my g'parents have this month's choice mag, but otherwise I'll get back to you Cheeky Little Monkey - thanks! :)

Hi TL,

We also have the F+P drawers. They're great! They have a fast and long wash, and economy function, they only use 8 litres of water per wash (less than a standard sink full!) and we haven't noticed an increase in our power bill since using them.

The only complaint I have with them is that they don't wash pans all that well - but oh, well. So I have to wash two pans a day! Big deal.

The only problem we've EVER had with the drawers was when MIL decided to try to help, and wash the dishes in the drawer with normal dishwashing liquid - she flooded the kitchen. But that's not the dishwasher's fault! LOL

Oooo hope I'm not too late- I forgot before, but when I bought one at my last house, I did some reading on Choice mag's website- they tested 36 dishwashers priced from $499 to $2499. They were tested for performance, efficiency, ease of use, noise and running costs.
