View Full Version : The best invention ever? The Ignore List!

A few days ago I was considering leaving BH because of a few rude, inflammatory, bloody irritating people... but I am so glad that instead of leaving, I just added said rude people to my ignore list!! :yelclap::smiliedance:

I've never had an ignore list before but I can truly say it has made my BH experience so much more enjoyable.. its back to being a place of interesting discussion and valuble support.. instead of passive aggression and argumentative posts! Gold I tell you!

I highly recommend a carefully chosen ignore list for everyone!

:p

I have found some people's opinions in one thread irritrates me...but then in the next I agree with!

I didn't realise there was such a thing! LOL

I just use the one in my head.... which is to say, if I see a rude post, I ignore it!

It's a good tool. At my political forum when trying to moderate disputes between members I always point to the ignore list. It really does save a whole world of pain.

Unfortunately, some people use the ignore list function as a way to taunt other members in open threads, which is ridiculously childish, IMO.

It is a good invention. I don't need one though, don't let people get to me really.

HATE Ignore list..

People can not STOP themselves Quoting the revolting and abusive and CRUEL posts... Again, and Again, and AGAIN.. and It does NOT block the quotes..:hair::thumbsdown:

YES.. I can walk away, I can log off and never come back.. I LIKE bubhub.. I enjoy the support and debate.. I just hate the deliberate (yes, deliberate, I know it, you know it, the mods know it) posting for trouble making purpose.. and TOTALLY hate how everyone buys into it with the multiquote.. so that even the people trying to maintain their sanity by USING ignore list, STILL get bombarded with the Mean and Cruel and totally uninformed CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :(

(sorry, Internal Censor quit again.. Actually... I am NOT sorry..)

Some people are just troublemakers and they join forums to be troublemakers and nothing else. Best idea is not to feed the trolls, and just report, report, report.

This site is really, really well moderated - not intrusive, not heavy-handed, not really visible. Reports are taken care of very quickly and I think that the mods handle a very big site with a lot of members really efficiently.

I am not saying the Mods don't do a good job.. I think they do.. and I am about to go "report, report, report!"

I am saying STOP QUOTING the horrible posts.. Stop giving them attention.. you can still state your point of view without Quote.. and that way, the ignore list would actually work!!!!!!!!!!!!! (yanno - just type, in regards to your post 312 ect, ect, ect!) that way, I don't have to see it! - wish I was a technological genius.. I am sure bubhub has had complaints about it B4, and if they could fix it, they would..

Glad it is working 4 u thou Wifey!!

BabelFish

Yep - that's what I meant by not feeding the trolls. If people want attention the quickest way to give them what they want is by biting when they put out the hook. Quoting renders the ignore function useless - BUT don't forget that what some people think is trolling, other people might not see that way, so it's totally subjective anyway.

:iagree: there are heaps that really annoy me but then in another thread i will agree with them.

I have only ever had one person on ignore only because she was completely disgusting and offensive i didn't want to get banned.

But it was pointless cause if someone quotes them you still have to see the crapola that they go on with.

Sometimes i want to ignore people but they are good value and i like a laugh at their stupidity

Seriously though, I wouldn't let a forum get to me like that. I love reading everything and being challenged, it's far better then being stagnant in thought.

I don't bother with the ignore list. Some people I think are annoying and/or stupid, but it'd be pretty boring if the only posts I got to read were from people who agreed with me.

I don't get that angry about it these days either. I just go, "Meh, they're just an idiot anyway... who really cares...". lol.

Well, there's no members like that anymore... there used to be. Now some people I don't have feelings about either way, others I like. I don't really have a "dislike" list here.

lol Sassymummy, I think I have been blessed by the zen fairy lately or whatever enough to do this now.

Occasionally I think ?! .....()
but I've only ever ignored one member for maybe 10 minutes and I have a feeling a lot of others also ignored said member.

I unignored because when I had a cup of tea and zenned myself in the garden I laughed that someone so silly could get a rise.

Something I am working on in myself to live and let live
Not saying it is that way for you OP but it was for me, I realised it is my issue to allow anyone silly to get under my skin, not theirs, because let's face it the world has a whole lot of silly.

Another forum I used to go to often just ended up a flood of abusive comments, highly sexual comments and advertising and all the frequent members dispursed and went 'elsewhere'.

I think that bubhub is an amazinly well managed site!

I'm glad there is an ignore list, I'd not heard of it, but its good to know. I've never really seen anyone who I think deserved to go on it for myself (sure there have been some comments that have really upset me though) but if I do, I know where to put them!

Also, I absolutely get mad, type a really angry response to someones comment, hovver my mouse over "submit" and think... yeah, not worth it. Delete. And still feel like I've had my vent, without actually needing to offend anyone

Theres some hubbers id like to put on the list, but then i've noticed in threads that they have relevant & (for lack of a better word) nice ? answers...

And then thoughts pop in to my mind that make me realise 'ha... ok.. you keep posting ;)'

Ignore options blows, you can still see their posts if someone quotes them. If I let a forum get to me like that I'd probably have to take a step back and look at my life and wonder why it's getting me down. Really I'd only have myself to blame.

i just think some people have nothing better to do with their time than be nasty its sad there even has to be an ignore list... i once had a member private message me and say all these terrible nasty things about single mothers,,,, i was angry at the time but thoought well if that made you feel better at one time then meh.... i would have rathered her had the guts to do it in the puclic forum though!

i have ppl ive disagreed with on some threads then agree whole heartly with them in another, its my favorite thing about BH. it seams like a real social circle then i dont agree with everything my best freinds say in fact sometimes they **** me off but other times they are the only ones who get me

SorenLorensen

have used it before and found it quite handy.

it is not like being in primary school and running to a teacher
for me it was a way of removing something that was getting to me, having a breather and then i unblocked when i was over it.

meh, if someone IRL bugs me a heck of a lot and it is MY problem (their opinion that they are entitled to may upset me so it is MY problem) i will separate myself from them, depending on the situation it will be indefinetly or just until i am over it......its something i learnt to do when i grew up :D, im not always good at it but i darn well try.

guess i can look at it this way, if my daughter comes to me saying a girl is upsetting her by saying things i will tell her to ignore the comments and just go play with someone else.....good enough for me to teach my kid then good enough for me to do.

and im not talking about 'debate' type comments, a good debate is healthy...im talking just plain rude :)

PeppaH

Ok mayeb not like running to the teacher lol but I thought we were grown ups on here, I dont see the need for ingore lists. I feel like Im grown up enough to take the bad with the good, its an online forum not the end of the world if someone calls me names.

If someone bugs me enough offline they will know about it, why ignore something someone has done? What gets resolved that way?

TeenyT
23-09-2009, 18:47
Couldn't use the ignore list even if I had someone I wanted to add. Noone has bothered that much that I would go that far. Besides, even if it did, curiousity would get the better of me and I wouldnt be able to stand not knowing if they'd said something to make me mad. Vicious circle really.

Deserama - I saw that post last night and thought " Whoa - dont hold back Des!!' I was like this  then like this :devil6: cause it sounded like you'd reached the end of your tether, and let everyone have it with both barrels. So fess up. Did you have a change of heart and delete or did the pink sticks get you? :p

how i see it is some people actually thrive on being rude, they like to get a rise out of people....sometimes depending on the 'topic' of the week i will get very annoyed at seeing the persons rude comments. there is no point in confronting them when a) it has already been done b) they are doing it out of 'fun'

where would be the point in that ?? i dont waste energy on people who are getting enjoyment out of ticking people off and i prefer to ignore them...
oh and im not talking about people calling me names. im 26, im kinda over the whole "dont call me names thing' im talking about people who are plain rude...actually ther person i had on block not too long ago i have never entered a conversation with, i just got sick of seeing how she spoke to people and didnt care when it was pointed out to be rude.

Me too I think. I've not seen anyone bad enough to ignore, but if someone I'd ignored said something and everyone was getting upset about it a thread it would frustrate me not knowing what had been said. I'm a bit too nosey to ignore someone :o

I will say also, all the little tiffs and upsets that take place on bubhub have been fairly educational to me. I'm naive sometimes I think and I've learnt a lot about what can upset people that just never would have occured to me before, its made me much more aware and careful when talking to bubs in the real world, about not saying things that could be interpretted as judgement or unwanted advice, because how am I to know where their sensitive spots are?

I got into an argument with my sister because she is the type to just say "whatever" and let it go where I like to explain myself and dont like to just agree to disagree when Im being insulted lol.
