On Wednesday 2nd December 2008 i woke up to go to work & felt sick, thought nothing of it. Got ready for work & left. When i got to work i felt extreamly sick & had to go home. I lasted 10 minutes at work, i never been back since.

When i got home i send DF a text message to say i wasnt at work & was at home on the lounge under the Air Con. DF finished work & came home at his normal time. Id been vomiting all day & couldnt hold a thing down. Was the same during that night. The next day, i still felt sick but even worse. I ended up ringing DF at work mid morning to come home so i could go to the GP. He was home by 11am. Pregnancy never crossed my mind.

When we got to the GP's office, he had a chat & suggested i have blood's done to rule pregnancy out. I had the bloods done that afternoon.

The next day, Friday 4th December 2008. I got a phone call from my GP's office to say the had the results & needed to talk to me & DF. I rang him at work & said we need to go when he got home. Fridays were Midday finishes. We went to the GP who than proceeded to tell us i was pregnant & any where from 12 - 16 weeks. Slight shock to the system. Nothing was adding up, not dates or anything. The 3 of us than agreed that a dating scan was a very good idea. I now know why. I book for a scan that afternoon for the 15th December.

Fast forward a week. I still couldnt keep anything down, not even water. I started to vomit blood (tmi i know), DF being the worry word he his. Called for an Ambulance. They came, checked my BP & took me to the hospital ER. I was on a drip for 6 hours & wasnt to leave until i had kept food down. I ate dinner that night at the hospital & was discharged. I was home for 10 minutes & what i had eaten came back. Was not happy.
I was now on daily Maxalon injections & tablets every 3.5 hours 24 hours a day.

Fast forward to the 15th December - Dating Scan day. I was hanging for this day to find out how far i had to go. Thinking i was atleast 3 months, i only had 6ish to go. Boy was i wrong.
My Mum took the day off work to take me for the scan. DF has just started a new job & could have the time off work.
As we walked in, mum jokingly said to the tech that we need to do a head count.
So he did, followed by "We'll call that one A, that on B, that on C & ill just look for a D". My response was "You just Fing what!" It still hadnt clicked. He than say's "Thats the first time ive scanned Triplets". My Mum was no help, all she could say was "You dont do things the easy way, do you". Ive never done things the easy way. Go Big or Go home is my motto.
Seeing as DF wasnt with me, i got video evidence to prove to him that their was 3 on the inside.
As we were leaving i sent him a message saying "All the Babies are fine", I got back "WTF, what are you on?". I than rang him to explain, he was driving home from work. Not the best idea but oh well. When he got home i showed him the evidence. He than believed me. I was 6+5 weeks.

Fast forward another week to just before Christmas. We had an appointment with the GP to discuss the plan of action. He was no help, all he could do was crack jokes about people movers. At the time i was driving a little 2 door Astra, so not going to fit 3 car seats in the back.
We decided on a plan of action & i had a referal to see a high risk OB at Newcastle Private. He had an appointment with on the 11th January 2009. We spoke to him & as i had to deliver at the public hospital 100mrts away, he transfered me to a high risk OB there - DR C.

On the friday of Australia Day long week end, i had a bleed. Knowing that i was at a high risk of miscarrying, i knew i had to get to the hospital ASAP. I was 12 weeks at the time. We rang for an ambulance & they took me to the hospital. Dr.'s did all they could do to find out why i bled, to this day we still dont really know. I had an Anti D injection as my blood type is Neg.
The next day i had a scan & everyone was still on the inside. Just where they should have been.
2 weeks after that day at 14 weeks, i had an appointment with the early intervention clinic. Dr. there didnt believe me that i was carrying triplets as the girls were laying on top of each other, as they did & still try to now.

At 15 weeks i had my first MW appointment & met my OB. Who said he wanted to see me every 2 weeks.
For the next to weeks, everything was very uneventful. Morning sickness eased & stopped the day i turned 21 & 17 weeks (26th Feb). DF took me out for dinner for me birthday, was the first time id eaten a real meal & kept it down. From there on in, i ate everything i could get my hands on.

At 18 weeks, things started to get a little hairy. I went into pre term labour for the first time. It stopped on its own & i spent the night in hospital.

Pretty easy ride till 23 weeks. I was getting bigger extreamly quickly, for every week of pregnancy my fundal height grew 6 weeks. This is when things got really scary & we came close to loosing them. I went into pre term labour for the second time. This time it didnt stop on its own. I was on medication to stop labour for a week & even than i was still contracting. I also had steroid injections help with the kids lungs & brains. I spent 2 weeks in hospital on bed rest. I went home at 25 weeks only because we lived so close to the hospital & i promised i would ring the ambulance if something happened.

I spent the next 3 weeks on the lounge at home. I felt like a beached whale & looked like it too.

On the 15th May, i went into pre term labour again for the 3rd time at 28+1 weeks. Thankfully DF was home & could take me to the hospital. We were now at the point that i could deliver without questions. A reg came in & asked me if i wanted to deliver naturally, thanks but no thanks buddy. Labour stopped on its own & i spent the night in deliver suit just in case. We went home at 8am on the saturday morning.

We spent 24 hours at home that weekend.

The next day i went into labour again for the 4th time at 28+3 weeks, another trip to the hospital for monitoring. We put theater & NICU on standby. NICU was already full, they sent two stable babies to Sydney Children's Hospital so they could make room for us.
They were going to send me home, i said no. I didnt feel safe being at home on my own while DF was at work. I was given permission to stay on the ward. I moved to the ward at midday. After sitting on the bed for about an hour & a half, i went into labour for the 5th time. This time id had enough. As much as i really wanted to make it to 30weeks which was 10 days away, i could see me making it past midnight. I was right.
I was given a pethadine shot to see if this was false labour or true. We waited 30 minutes to see if it would work, that 30 minutes felt like 4 hours. I was watching the clock like a hawk while almost pulling DF's arm our the socked.
The pethadine didnt work, it was time to deliver. My 2nd OB bought in the consent for an emergency c-section, i signed without a second thought. I was also given the approval for a GA, which i had been asking for since the beginning. We all thought at was a good idea, seeing as contractions were lasting long than they were apart.

I was wheeled into theater at 5.30pm on Sunday 17th May 2009. At 5.59pm our little girl Tahlia May was born weighing 1056 grams. At 6pm our little girl Aleah Rose was born weighing 1124 grams, Tahlia's identical sister. At 6.02pm our little man James Lucas was born weighing 1404grams. All up i was carrying over 3.5kg of baby, along with everything else. I had a fundal height of 45cm's.

This is us when the Triplets were 6 days old.
http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/news/general/triplet-delivery-was-no-tall-story/1520688.aspx

After they were born they went to Level 3 NICU & DF followed after James was born.

Both Girls spent 1.5 weeks in level 3 NICU, James spent 7 days. The sunday after they were born i woke up in a hot sweat knowing something had changed so i rang the hospital. His doctor told me he had been moved to level 2 NICU, i knew this was a good thing but he wasnt with his sister like he should have been. His sister joined him 4 days later.

This is the 5 of us a month after they were born

Our NICU ride was more of fattening camp than anything else. Tahlia did get sick at 32 weeks gestation & needed a little help to hold her oxygen levels up where they should have been.
She came home on medication to help her breath.

At 35+3 weeks gestation & 7 weeks of age, we were all finally home together.
Getting settled at home was a little hard but now have everything down pat.
They all have prem related issues but nothing to major.

They are now 4 months old & thriving. Tahlia now weight 4kg's, Aleah 4.5kg's & James 5kg.

We are so lucky & proud to be their parents.
Yes it is hard but so worth it. Knowing what we know now about the high risks of carrying triplets, we wouldnt change it for the world.

You did well, it was lovely to read your story!!

You got such a positive outcome! Your kids were good weights for their gestation, I'm glad they're doing well and that you're enjoying yourself as a mum to triplets

Thank you.

Now their wanting to play & move things have become a little more interesting to say the least. Especially Tahlia, if we try to help her move she gets cranky but if we done she's worse. Nanna now calls her Queen T.

Kids are very tall. Girls are about 56 cm's & James about 58cm's. If J-Man sits on my lap his head is level with my shoulders.

I just like to add that the money that That's Life gave us, we donated to John Hunter Children's Hospital & Hunter Medical Research Institute. We split it 50/50 between them.

If it wasnt for the children's Hospital or HMRI we wouldnt have our kidlets at home with us today.

Krystal, that was such a lovely story. I was in my 30's when I had my 4th and it was daunting having 4 under 5 at that stage of my life, but having 3 at once in your early 20's must have been something again! Yet you've coped so beautifully, you're an inspiration to us all (and may I add your the envy of many a mum having your figure snap back like that so quickly!)

Best of luck.

So i have a question......"How do you do it?.....Do you get alot of help?.......Your doing such a great job....Well done!.....MM xx

I often ask myself the same question. I guess i just do, i mean who else is going to?
We get a bit of help but not alot, my Dad comes on monday nights for the 6pm feed & than im on my own till 2am when DF gets home from work. My Mum comes on Wednesday nights for the 6pm feed, than im on my own till DF gets home.
Our mums take them one night each a month so we can have date night.
