My newborn appears to have a hernia under her bellybutton
her belly button sticks right out
the gp noticed it 3 weeks ago and said she had a small hernia and to push her belly buttonh gently back in
now it's looks bigger ( not sure that I'm seeing things though) and i can't really push it in anymore as she pushes it out
has anyone eles bubs had a hernia ?
What happened?

Hernias on babies are very common and usually fix themselves as bubs tummy muscles strengthen and hold it in.
If it comes to the worst, they're easy to repair (I just had mine fixed!)

My son was born with an undescended left testicle and a hernia, also in the left side. Initially it caused a little confusion as to whether it was a testicle or a hernia but just before his first birthday he had a small day procedure to fix both problems. I'm telling u he made not a whimper not a sound. It was either a completely painless recovery or my lil man is a tough cookie.
It's a fairly regular occurrence and shouldn't cause any discomfort. In fact when i think back i was told "just make sure he poo's every few days". Thats the only advice i went on til he had the op.
Hope it helps :)

Thanks :-)
it becomes out very prominent when she cries it looks like her belly button will explode
I'm worried that I let her cry too much even though I can't help if she is crying while in the bathroom etc :-(
My eldest had an umbilical hernia also. It just fixed itself as she grew. The majority of these hernias just fix themselves, very rarely do they need operating. :)
My 10 week old has a massive one and Paed has advised she may likely have to get an op to fix it - they are not concerned about it at all though as they are quite common and as the other posters said most fix themselves.
My Pard said as long as you can push it back in (it won't stay though) easily then no concern - they will just monitor it - and it will get bigger when they poop or scream for obvious reasons.
:hugs: My DD1 had her groin hernia operated on when she was 6 weeks old.
If you're unsure about it, get a second oppinion and maybe a referral to a specialist. If, as others have suggested, it will right itself, then all is ok. If however it does need an operation, then something can be done sooner rather than later.

My DD3 was prem and has/had a hernia on her belly button. As you mentioned it got really big when she was crying or straining. Docs weren't worried, they said it was common. She is now 7 mths and it's starting to go in. She is starting to use her tummy muscles and it's making a big difference to how far it sticks out.

my DS1 had an umbilical hernia and one in his groin.
the umbilical one went away on its own around 6mths.
the groin one, he had an operation on it at 2mths old. poor little mite, but you could see the difference in his behaviour as soon as he had recovered from the op. (wouldnt scream when i laid him on his back anymore)
good luck, am sure it will all be fine :)
