which brand of dried apricots I can buy for DD that doesnt have the additive 220 (sulpher)? I have read that babies shouldnt have this but all the bags I look at in the supermarket have this additive in it???? Thanks in advance!! :)
I've never found any from any supermarket that don't have 220 used to process them. I buy mine from my local health food shop (you know the ones as they are much darker than usual) .. or in apricot season I make my own! one of the lovely things about having a huge apricot tree in the backyard :D
Try a health food shop or a store that sells nuts and dried fruit.
I'm in Brisbane and I buy them from a shop in West End called Mick's Nuts. They are about $2 a kilo cheaper than the ones with 220 in them.

Try then organic shop on Wynnum Road (near KFC) Can't recall the name but it's on the bend in the road and called something "planet" I think?
220 is the sulphur preservative and bad for asthmatics etc.

Thanks everybody for your replies!! Nonny, I will try to get up to have a look for that shop. I didnt even know there was one there!!
Dried fruit needs something to stop the bacteria.
You can get tinned or sugared apricots (even jam) as an alternative.
Look for dark-brown coloured dried apricots. Its the SO2 that makes them keep that bright-orange fresh colour, so darker ones may have less (or no?) SO2.

so does anybody give their kids just regular old Sunbeam dried apricots?? they are probably to darkest supermarket dried apricots I've seen...
nah, sunbeam still have sulphur used on them
but really it's a personal choice. sulphur isn't innately bad, but some people are sensitive to it. I prefer my family not to have any additives in our food so I choose to not buy them. That being said I don't notice any particular effects that 220 has on my kids.
